On Bioware's home page, there's a little flashing sign reading "2005-10-04". Presumably, they will be announcing something then. Hopefully, it will be their unannounced console title, but given the lameness of these recent countdown events, it will probably be another NWN module.

That is my guess.

It must be something to do with the Xbox 360, since that is the date of X05.

That's flawed logic. By that logic, Dragon Quest VIII Must be on Xbox 360, as it's coming out the same day the Xbox 360 is, on 11/22/05.

MS has already said that Bioware will be announcing a Xbox360 game at X05, so I'm guessing that's all it is.

If it is an XBox360 game, then it's most likely the FPS/RPG that they've hinted at, although there's a small possibility it could be the rumored Jade Empire 2.

Bioware with Shadowrun? Blech. The last thing a setting as fantastic as Shadowrun needs is Bioware butt-fucking it with Baldurwinter Knights of the Jade Republic: Cyberpunk Crisis.

Blah blah blah I hate Bioware. I'm guessing its either a major bump on Dragon Age news or the announcement of their much rumored sci-fi project thingy. Either way I am excited.

I like Bioware stuff, for the most part. KOTOR/BG2 are two of my all time favorites, havent been that keen on their other stuff.
I would like someone to force them to make an RPG with real TB combat.

If you look at the X05 official game list, it mention's Bioware's new scifi game called Mass Effect. Looks like a squad based shooter, probably with some RPG elements.

From the screen shots...it is a 3rd person shooter where you can never actually see what your character is aiming at but he looks cool?
Maybe it will become more interesting as time goes on.

Hmmm dare I dream that, based on the tid bits available about Mass Effect, it will have vaguely XCom-ian overtones? mmmmm.

Worthplaying has some more details here. They're calling it an action-RPG that "employs a real-time, squad based, tactical combat system"

Groan. Gee-gosh golly, another scifi based shooter game. After Pariah, I am getting pretty wary of Halo wanna-bes. Yeah, I know, it's Bioware, but seriously, with Gears of War, UT2K7, and eventually Halo 3, how many sci-fi shooter variants can you play over the course of a year or two. And I'm just mentioning the ones off the top of my head.
The characters look a little mannequin-like (the human ones at least), though I like the non-humans and the environments. I dunno, this just looks like more of the 'same-shit, better graphics' rut that has been going on for years. Hell, it's still early, I hope I'm wrong. I was just hoping for something a little more fresh than this.

Hmm. Well, to be honest, there is really next to NO information about what this game is going to be yet. It's probably a little early to be calling it a "Halo/Pariah" me-too scifi shooter. For all we know, it's not a shooter at all....
I'm more than inclined to give BioWare the benefit of the doubt.

After Halo I'm getting pretty wary of Marathon/Doom/System Shock/other sci-fi shooter from the past wanna-bes. Seriously sci-fi shooters have pretty much been around since the FPS was invented right?

Well, yeah, That's kind of why I'm a little burned out on them. Between Doom 3 which was a collosal waste of my time and money, and the last one I played, which was - you guessed it - Pariah, I just can't get myself excited about this. Mind you I loved Jade Empire and I loved KOTOR, and I'm sure BioWare will do this right, but looking at the 360 line-up for the next several months, there is definitely a skew towards Sci-Fi as far as first-person games go. Hopefully they'll bend the genre a bit and take it off in a new generation, we will see. I'd prefer a more fantasy environment from BioWare, personally, even if they mix it up a bit and do something like, say, steampunk. I think I'm mostly just turned off by the human characters in those screenshots. blech. Maybe I wanted a Jade Empire sequel, which took me back to the days of Oriental Adventures for D&D. I dunno, we'll see.

They key here is that the game looks to be as much a shooter as it is an RPG. From the short movie clip, there's some character interaction, mentioning of councils and the like.
The world sounds a bit like the Uplift world (sans fins and chimps), where humanity has earned its place among the many species of a massive galaxy.

They're calling it an action-RPG with squad-based tactical combat. That sounds like it will be third-person, with party members you can order around. Also, given the amazing job they did creating the Jade Empire world, I don't think we have to worry about the gameworld being generic sci-fi.
"Maybe I wanted a Jade Empire sequel, which took me back to the days of Oriental Adventures for D&D." According to IGN, they're already working on that, too.

According to IGN, "Microsoft Game Studios Executive Shane Kim and BioWare team members have said in the past that Jade Empire 2 (working title) is definitely in development." and "We have a couple of Xbox 360 titles in development right now," said a BioWare spokesperson. "But we're recruiting across the board for all four development teams. We have two teams working on Xbox 360 titles, one team on Dragon Age (for the PC), and one on digital distribution, which is ongoing content created for Neverwinter Nights." It seems like Bioware really likes the Jade Empire world they created, so I would think they would rather do the sequel themselves than let someone else handle it.

I really like the Jade Empire world they created too-hopefully they will fix some of the glaring flaws-and that quote you provided makes it sound like JE2 is definately a 360 title, which is woot!!
