It looks like HD remakes are all the rage now - Ubisoft announced that an HD remake of Beyond Good & Evil is coming to XBLA and PSN in early 2011. Worthplaying has the details.

I think HD remakes are a good thing, companies get to make money, and good games get a second chance.
And, if this does well, it might push forward the BG&E sequel.

Cool news. I've been wanting to replay this one, but never could quite get the hang of it on PC. An HD remake would be awesome.

do what I did: when the controls switch just turn the controller upside down so the analog stick goes in the right direction until the next change. alternatively you could probably remap the keys on the PC version to correspond with the new directions.

Never played it. I'm wondering if I really missed out on something or if with my severely limited gaming time I should just focus on better, more recent games like ME2. Hell, I still haven't finished Shadow Complex from XBLA despite really enjoying it.

Hell, I still haven't finished Shadow Complex from XBLA despite really enjoying it. ME2 is better, but BG&E is a truly fantastic game. It can also be finished in 8-10 hours, if time is a big consideration. I've been playing the HD version all afternoon. It's purty.

If this is a "can't miss" classic, or simply of high quality but not necessarily a game you can't go through life without playing (I'd put games like Portal in that category).

Portal is in a class by itself.
BG&E was a superlative experience at the time. It's still really fantastic, but as is often the case, the gaming world has evolved since. Not as dramatically as with, say, Perfect Dark, though, so it's still completely accessible and entertaining. I played for two hours today, and I had a lot of other things to do.
I imagine it would be like when I played Ico two years ago. I was still able to utterly enjoy it and appreciate the beauty of it, but it was still through the fog of time. Or like replaying Sands of Time, which I would place in the same group as Portal of must play games, but going through the HD re-release, it's not as dazzling as it was.
Bottom line: try the demo.
Be aware, though, that it seems like if you play the trial, you'll have to start over if you take the plunge for the full game.

Yeah, i'll go with Gratch on this one too. It's easily one of the top 10 games I've played. Sure, some things are dated, but the story is compelling and the game has much to offer that things remain fairly fresh. Once the world opens up you got plenty to do at any given time and most things only benefit you with upgrades. I played it twice and I rarely play any games twice. ME2 can wait.

Supplements were cut out of the budget long ago. I'm lucky the wife still allows me to keep my gym membership. Then again, that's non-negotiable anyway. Physical fabulousness does not stop for anything, including economics.

Bought it because of all the good word about it through the years. However, I gotta say the camera is driving me crazy. I normally invert up and down, but not side to side and you can only invert all or none!! /madness

Yeah, I am really surprised they didn't fix that camera issue as I think it was also one of the biggest complaints about the original.

Seeing as UBI was also behind the crap HD port of Sands of Time, I am not surprised.
Actually, that was one of the best gaming deals I've ever gotten - shortly after BG&E came out, they dropped it and PoP to $20 and I got them together.

I'm not really surprised but dang I wished they would have fixed it. Love playing it again in HD but that camera...

Spent 45 mins with it last night. Having fun so far. I remember a lot more than I thought. But yeah, games have changed a lot since 2003

ME2 can wait.
Keep in mind jersoc hates anything from Bioware, so take that last statement with a massive chunk of salt. Keep in mind I hate dragon age 2 because it's a horrible game. woah, you have not played it yet!!..unless you got it early,if its the demo you are going off, remember that the demo is supposedly a September 2010 build I am going to leave B,G and E for awhile and try and catch up on my other games..but definitely going to come back to it
