Meh, give me screen shots of the interface and not just pictures of combat and cut scenes. I know it's not a FPS, but the screen shots sure make it look like one.

Technically I think you would say "third person shooter" from most of the shots smile  We did a whole dev diary on the interface here.  Also, we don't do any cut scenes.

Don't get me wrong, I am looking forward to the game, but the screen shots don't do it justice. I want to see what the game looks like the way I will play it, interface and with camera angles that you would actually use to play the game, not to make it look pretty.

I think in that case you should avoid anything referred to as a "preview" for any game ever made smile  I don't think this is anything out of the ordinary.  Regardless, most of the combat shots are at least similar to camera angles that you're likely to see when using the VATS system.  But I do understand your point.

Ah.  I have a pro-zombie stance anyway, so long as it doesn't feel like playing Resident Evil.  Not that RE is bad, it's just there is enough which can be done with zombies that we don't have to play other people's version of RE.

Kind of in the same way I get pissed off at vampire films using the damn "Fright Night" ending over and over and over and over.  Breaking windows isn't the only way to kill vampires, guys!!

Those graphics don't look half bad. I don't think I ever played Fallout 2 actually, does it hold up? (Probably a stupid question.) I heard it runs fine on Vista, is it worth picking up in this day and age? GoGamer has it.

You liked Spreadsheet Wars?  Well, I'll give you full respect for making that statement in a public forum even if many of us don't agree with it.  for what it's worth, Half Price Books has copies available for those interested in giving it another try.

Oh, and Lee - Fallout 2 does run perfectly fine in Vista, although I haven't revisited it long enough to give an impression on how well it still stands up to aging.

Purge posted a pic of Fallout Tactics.  Fallout 2 isn't that far behind it visually, though, and definitely worth picking up.

Purge, yeah, apparently the pics weren't supposed to be posted online yet.  You can find them in EGM or OXM from last month, or I'm sure they're out in the wild now somewhere.

Yes, Fallout 2 is definitely worth getting (same with 1). Both are still excellent games to this day (short of the openings).

And check here for a preview of the latest build. Dogmeat! And I LOVE how your character 'comes into the world' according to the preview.

one thing that did catch my eye in the IGN article:

Quote
The final bit of the demonstration showed off one of the game's larger, outdoor levels, in this case, the National Mall in Washington D.C. I

I though FO3 was supposed to be one large open world except for the interiors/dungeons, like they did in Oblivion.  I wonder what they mean by levels.

Off topic: I found the manual for Fallout 1, but I can't find the disk. Did it come on 3.5s or a CD? CD in a jewel or paper case?

I think Fallout 1 was a CD only game. While I can't find my original box or discs, I do have a jewel case version of both games somewhere around here.

Indeed.  I'm still in the P4/AGP era and am waiting for a critical mass of new games to hit before I put together a whole new system.  FO3 will probably be part of that mass, even though I have yet to play a FO game to completion (I own FO1/2/Tactics).  Anyway, it looks like I have some time to get around to those.

Er, I know I keep asking this, I can't remember if it was answered, but is there going to be any sort of mod tools for Fallout 3?  I'm buying it either way, but it'd be cool to see what the FO3 mod community can do considering what they did for Oblivion.

even if none are officially released it wouldn't surprise me to see people hacking the game and doing stuff.

Quote
The good news first then Ė enemies donít level with the player. From the start of the game all the enemies are fixed, unlike in Oblivion. You wonít run across lowly raiders in Super Power Armour, and nor will rats get harder and harder to beat as you play more and more of the game. Thereís none of all that.

No enemy leveling!!! YAY!!!!
