Ok, now that I've got your attention... smile

Seriously, though, folks.  Fallout 3 wasn't going to be made if Bethesda hadn't stepped up to the plate.  It wasn't happening.

For myself, I have some trepidations, based on what we've heard/seen so far...but given the choice of spending more time in the Fallout universe, or NOT spending some time in the Fallout universe...I'll take my chances with Bethesda.

We see this it seems every time there's talk of bringing back a much-loved franchise.  For example, the way the Freespace fans went ballistic when there was talk of Derek Smart buying the rights and making Freespace 3.  I don't care WHAT kind of game he might have made--and given what we've seen from the most recent iterations of Universal Combat, I think it would have been good, if a bit complex ;-)...but it wouild have been better than the current non-existent Freespace 3.

To quote the old song..."Something is better than nothing."

Doesn't Uwe Boll make the same case regarding his movies?

Anyway, considering two threads have been locked because of this topic, is it really wise to keep going on about it?  I realize you were making a joke with the title, but it's probably wise to let the wounds heal before throwing the salt around.  I'm just sayin'.

I'm definitely not a huge Bethesda fan, but Fallout 3 looks like it should be fun.  I'm looking forward to it.

I don't know squadush about the previous Fallout games, and I don't care about them.  But I am very much looking forward to Fallout 3 on the 360.  Everything I have seen so far about it looks good.

To be clear, threads on Fallout 3 are fine and people are encouraged to discuss what they like/dislike about the franchise and it's developers.  It's only a problem if people start disparaging one another's opinions on these issues.  So consider that fair warning to any and all.

I don't have any problem with it, but the subject of the thread could be construed as continuing on those discussions.

For example, I never claimed "Bethesda sucks and they and anyone who likes them are going to hell", but that was what others tried to spin my opinion as.  If one wanted to have a topic about Fallout 3, they could just named it "Fallout 3 super anticipation threadzor!!!" or something.  It's not like a sensationalist headline is required for attention- this isn't Digg.

So yeah, I guess I'm personally a bit offended at the thread title.  But at the same time, I don't think anyone should be banned for something like this (as you stated in the 2nd locked thread)- that's why I was questioning the wisdom of the thread title.

I'm fully in agreement on this.

So, anyone have any better analysis about how the gun combat will work?  I haven't like the way that's been dealt with in any previous first-person RPG.  The immersion breaks down quickly when you aim, fire, and then find out you missed anyway because your skill is too low.   That can be easily hidden in melee combat, but stands out in gun combat.

I just don't understand why we needed another FO3 thread.  Don't we already have a bunch of them.  This one does not appear to offer any new information, other than the obvious unbreakable-baiting.

They keep getting locked.

It seems like a game that should be capable of supporting a long-term thread that won't require a new topic every few weeks, but it remains to be seen if one can stay on topic and avoid being derailed by personal sniping.  This one's already off topic, however.

I read a brief preview in the EGM that arrived today at my house (I still am not entirely sure why I get that magazine). Sounds interesting. I thought the idea of sending Dogmeat off on scouting missions was cool. It kind of reminds me of Fate, where you could send your pet to town to sell loot.

I wanted to, but could never get into Fallout due to it ruining turn based combat by making it dog-ass slow. (Arcanum did this much better IMO.) I also think The Elder Scrolls series is highly overrated, but I did enjoy Oblivion more than any before it (aside from the horrendous main quest). They finally made the big world in a TES game interesting enough for me to actually want to explore it. Still, I am curious about Fallout 3 for sure. A little Fallout mixed with a little Elder Scrolls could be (for me) much greater than the sum of its parts. I hope there's a demo.

I still wish someone would make a deep western RPG while stealing the heavenly, turn based, peppy combat from Fire Emblem. I'm not holding my breath! smile

I'm a huge fan of the original 2 fallouts, and I am anticipating Fallout 3.  As long as Bethesda is able to capture the ambiance of Fallout, than to me it doesn't matter if it's 2D, 3D, turn based, etc.  Admittedly, that's a big if...but I'd rather Bethesda take a crack at it than the franchise continue to rot.

My biggest problem with Oblivion is that while it was a huge game, it was a huge, shallow game.  There were a lot of things to do...but none of the activities had much depth to them.  I really hope that Bethesda isn't designing FO3 with that same design scheme.

I look at it this way: Fallout 3 could be to the previous games what FFXII was to FFX and prior. Not something to replace them necessarily, or even necessarily better, but something that's new and different while still retaining the spirit of its predecessors such that it's awesome overall. icon_biggrin

personally, i know beth will do a FAR better job of continuing the fallout license than DS ever would have with freespace.  did we really want to have 14 keyboard commands just to change our weapons?  or real time capital ship repair, complete with a 195 page index only available to download on http://freespace3.300ad.com?

no, i think the current state of the freespace license is just fine as it is.  sadly, i don't think anyone could hold a candle to volition in this regard.

Why can't people (I'm looking at you NMA!) be happy that one of the most beloved PC franchises is being continued by a superstar development group!

I grew up with Fallout, and still have the original 'fatboy' boxes and spiral manuals for F1 and 2. I absolutely loved these games, but I can't wait to see how Bethesda updates this 10 year old plus franchise.

I just know I was afraid that FFXII was going to be awful and "not a real FF game" until I actually played it and realized it was brilliant and still retained the FF spirit.
