yeah yeah,i'll change that title when it gets announced but for now they have released a teaser loop,it shows a record going around and then cuts to Barb wire

The record looks like it is "Air on a G String"

The studio said this week: "Parts of our team have also been in pre-production on our next major project, and that game is at the point where it requires the studio's full attention to make it our biggest and best work yet."

People are speculating Fallout 4,This would be top of my list of wants from Bethesda

EDIT: Damn i forgot about Wolfenstein, the Barb wire could be for that

They are obviously doing a game adaptation of Pamela Anderson's Barb Wire, hence the g-string.

The 3rd tease leads me to believe more than any of the others that this is a new Wolfenstein game. The window is gothic arched and the lights look like those that were popular in Europe in the 20-30's. Could be a new Fallout too, but I'm betting this is from id which is due for a new Wolfy game. If it proves to be the case, I just hope it's better than their last entry in that franchise.   Roll Eyes

The last one was pretty good, but we've had very few WWII shooters of late.  I'd be very up for this, if it's done right.

The Evil Within

No gameplay footage, but the trailer has a real Silent Hill vibe about it.

I don't know if a game has ever "scared" me. I'm PC only and have never played the Silent hill game. I liked the good Clive Barker game but it didn't scare me. I've been startled by monster closet stuff back in the day, but not scared. Dead space was creepy. Maybe I'm splitting hairs.

Dead Space WAS creepy at times, but it was also in your face horror, what i am hoping for here(not just here, but any horror type game that is out in the future) is to bring back the early days of Silent Hill(mainly 1 and 2),the walking through the dark in the school or the hospital ...just something about walking though an abandoned school in the dead of night and you are not alone that just hit the spot for me for scary video games, unfortunately the later games never really hit that spot(although i am still a fan of Origins,SH3 and The Room)

when i suggest i want the hell scared out of me,I don't just want "ARRGH BIG MONSTER!!!"

Resident Evil,Condemned,F.E.A.R. were like Dead Space more action orientated, not saying there is no action in SH games..but SH seemed to handle the fear factor, spot on(IMO anyway)

I also like the whole 'something is wrong with this town' theme..kinda like ..I dunno,Children of the Corn feel or countless other films where the whole town is against the 'normal' people

EDIT:just googled top ten scariest video games, and came across 'Cold Fear'...not heard of that game for years, and really was in the back of my mind,I really liked that game but again that was more action based

A really good example of creepiness in video games is the first 'The Suffering' game, fantastic game it had the SH treatment down pretty good as well, haunted island with Prison on there.....that creeped the fuck out of me,especially the ghost kids who sang 'Ring-a-Ring a roses'

EDIT 2: I have just bought The Suffering and The Suffering:Ties That Bind from Amazon for 2 quid each Tongue

Try Amnesia: The Dark Descent (available off Steam) if you wanna be scared.

Iím curious what the distinction is for people between startled, freighted and scared.  I see this sort of comment a lot but it doesnít make much sense to me as I consider them all the same.

Frightened and scared are basically synonymous, you look one up it includes mention of the other. Startled is more of a sudden shock or "start" to me, something brief, a quick involuntary movement... although it is also listed as synonymous with the other two.

MF explained it.  Unfortunately, today too many don't think a horror movie (or game) is effective if it isn't chock full of startle moments, but this is really just a cheap thrill.  Don't get me wrong, those startle moments have their place and can be used effectively, but they need to be earned by the building of suspense.

What if you are scared of being startled?

I really hate jump scares.  It made it really hard for me to play through Dead Space 2 whereas I had no problem with Amnesia at all.

Yep, that's valid. Was listening to a science podcast about the various fears, phobias, and anxiety disorders. There's a wide variety of types and you'd be surprised as what will trigger fear and anxiety attacks.

I felt more fear walking around the Von Braun than Doom 3 once the monster closet mechanic became too obvious.  The build-up of creepy and unsettling characters always trumps jump scares for me.

Played the first 2 chapters and am liking it so far. Definitely has that Resident Evil 4 feel - creepy, but not too scary, with some dodgy voice acting. It relies a lot more on stealth though and has a character upgrade system in addition to weapon upgrades.

Ammo is very scarce, so it definitely looks to be more of a true survival horror game. I died quite a few times getting the hang of things and there does seem to be a bit of trial and error involved. If you get in a bad situation, you're probably going to die.

Part of me is just glad to not be playing an open world game for the first time in a while.

There's quite the variation in review scores for this. It looks like I game I could potentially enjoy (in small doses. I don't handle adrenaline well), but Jim Sterling's review worries me. He's a very smart guy, and he points out that the game routinely tells you to make decisions without giving you any information with which to base those decisions on, and that's front and center among things that constitute bad game design. Games like XCOM show us that making hard choices can be extremely rewarding, but such games also give us enough information to make an educated choice where we aren't surprised by the consequences (and if we are, it's our own fault). It sounds like The Evil Within tells you to make choices blind and then punishes you heavily for making the wrong one. That's not rewarding. That's just frustrating.

Did he provide any examples of such poorly designed decision/consequence instances?

I pre-loaded the game yesterday, looking forward to getting a couple hours in tonight.

So far I'm not very impressed. The zoomed in camera view, janky game play, and terrible voice acting has me glad I rented it.

It's a bit Resident Evil with a dash of Silent Hill but seems intent on being difficult for the sake of it.

Maybe it's just the fact I have Alien Isolation to continue playing, as I've found it to be much more impressive a game in the early going. Will give TEW at least a few more hours of my time but it's not looking like something I'm going to enjoy.

It looked like it had a lot of promise, but the only reason why all of the gore didn't seem generic is that it's the first of a new generation of games that could do that gore at high detail and with new gen lighting.
