I sort of make a habit of not pressing start when I get games.  I like to see what happens.  It's hard to explain...but you know, when the game goes to the title screen and you just let it sit there?  Yeah, I like doing that, because sometimes you're treated to some really cool videos.  In sports games you usually get a demo game with funky camera angles, which is cool, but some games offer really amazing videos.

Metal Gear Solid 2, for example, has the coolest video if you don't press start.  Hell, when I hear the MGS2 theme, I can visualize the video in my head (just today, when I was playing the song in the car, I kept saluting at the part that it shows soldiers saluting and my brother's like, "Dude, stop saluting!") - it's great.

Kingdom Hearts has a really nice video, as well.  Gets you really pumped up for the game biggrin

Table Tennis has a nice little video (it's actually the trailer - I remember seeing it pre-release), as well.

Anyone else do this?  Those are off the top of my head...

Dawn of War's intro video is amazing on the PC.  As for consoles, I can't think of any in recent memory that blew me away.  Blizzard's intro movies are all really good for the PC.

As for consoles, some of the older FIFA titles had some really cool intro movies.  I forget which version it was, but I really liked the intro to FIFA that featured the song "Woohoo" by Blur.

I can't think of many console games that have really impressed me.  As RoguetAd said, most of Blizzards movies are great.  Dawn of War had a really fun opening as well.  Titan's Quest opening was pretty good as well.

Whenever I get a new game I always let the game roll through the studio splashes and everything else in hopes that there's something going on.

I liked the sweeping cinematic for DQVIII...not necessarily pertinent to the story, but great shots of the landscape etc.

It was fantastic.  So much so that I was incredibly disappointed when Winter Assault didn't have an intro video of its own.

I'll watch intro video once after that I skip it. Though if pressed I do enjoy RAD's intro video as well as SMT Nocturne.

I love a lot of these things, especially for either Blizzard games or JRPG's.

I loved the music that runs if you let FFIII (on the SNES) go.
I don't typically care for J-pop, but the intro to Grandia III never got old to me for some reason.
Suikoden III's opening sequences are also fantastic.
I LOVE the title screen music for Skies of Arcadia and the original Grandia.
I second the awesomeness that is the MGS2 opening sequence.

Lots of great stuff.  biggrin

One of the Ratchet and Clank games (Going Commando maybe?) had R&C channel surfing in the menu background and at one point they're watching footage of one of the Sly Cooper games.

Yes!  I used to always sit through the entire intro video every time I booted up that game.

EDIT- special mention to MGS3: Snake Eater since the intro video isn't even triggered until you get past the game's prologue.

I always enjoyed sitting a little while at the Skies of Arcadia: Legends title screen just because the classical music that plays there is quite good. Does that count?

I think I owned Meteos (DS) for two months before discovering that it had a very nice CGI intro that played if you let it sit at the title screen a little while (and how often do you let a portable game sit in attract mode anyways?).

Devil May Cry 3 also has an amazing opening....

I like how Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne has TWO different videos if you don't push start.  Both are very cool, especially the second one.

I can't really think of any others that were as sweet as SMT Nocturne . . .

The Skies of Arcadia talk reminded me that I'd also sit and watch Chrono Cross every time I booted it up.  LOVED that music.

I have that music on my hardrive and make a point to listen to it on occasion.  Chrono Cross has one of the best soundtracks of any game out there   biggrin

On a slightly different note, I like the videos (or actual in-engine demos) shown after leaving Gran Turismo 4 at the intro page. Really great visuals and the first time I got the game, I sat there for at least 15 minutes watching those.

Hmm, the only one I can remember wanting to see again and again is WoW's. Just gets better the more you play the game.

Chrono Trigger is quite possibly one of the best in-game soundtracks ever done.  Chrono Cross is exceptionally great, too.  It's unfortunate that I didn't like the actual game of Chrono Cross as much as I liked the music. frown Here's to hoping for a true Chrono Trigger sequel someday! biggrin

I don't know if this discussion is restricted to console games, but I really liked the original opening screen for Sid Meier's Civilization 4.

I like how sports games go to a cinematic tv-like presentation if you dont press start.  Other then that Ocarina of Time comes to mind with Link riding Epona and the music and everything.

biggrin  That makes me think of the Venture Bros for some reason with Hank yelling at Dean.

I love the DQ8 intro - with the great music and majestic flyover of the land, it really gets you in the mood to play the game.  I also watched the Lunar : Silver Star Story Complete opening video many times, as well as the Wild ARMs 3 intro, which changes every time you complete a major event in the game.

Dawn of War really was a standout. But of course, the best one goes to the sad, soulful, chilling music during the FFX looping video at the beginning, with the whole party sitting in the ruins of Zanarkand.

Dawn of War, as everyone else has said, is an excellent intro.

I would give a nod to Metal Gear Solid 2. MGS3's intro was fine visually, but.. the theme song was freaking awful.

You know what other game had a great intro?

Freedom Fighters. And Jesper Kyd's music during the intro ruled.
