Best Halflife2 mods?

Not counting the official ones of course (ie CS etc).

It was awhile since I played HL2 and I am currently finishing the main campaign that I never managed to finish earlier.
I am also curious about what mods(free) that are good you guys recommend. Preferably something Sci FI or something more unusual.

Research and Development is pretty damn good, probably because it was done by an actual professional developer.

MINERVA: Metastasis is also pretty fun and the guy who did that got a job at Valve.

Coastline to Atmosphere is pretty popular but I've never completed it.

Dear Esther is pretty trippy but isn't a traditional mod as there is no combat.  It really hit me emotionally, though, and isn't very long at all.

I agree with all of the above but I can't say anything about Dear Esther because I haven't played it.

I'd like to add recommendations for Offshore, Mission Improbable, The Citizen, and Strider Mountain.

There are also lots of mods on that page that are just maps that can be played in a short time.  I would recommend Powerstation 17 and Redox.

FakeFactory's Cinematic Mod

If you have a x64 bit OS and the other stuff then get version 10. I'm running it now. Awesome graphics. I'm replaying HL2 because of it.

Is this more of a tech demo then? I can't imagine what benefits 64 would bring but yes I do run one. Having trouble right now in fact with SQL Server Express 64 if someone here is an expert .

No it is a full graphics overhaul. You can also replace all NPCs with new graphics. And there are about 7 different Alyx's to choose from..even normal ones that are just updated.

It requires 64 bit for memory usage. takes a lot to run the high graphics. If you just have 32 bit you can run version 8 or so I think.

I used to play The Hidden mod in HL1. Not tried this one but the old one was fun. Its a MP mod.

This one here looks funny. A guy replaced ALL sounds in HL2 with his voice. Ahaha the video is funny.

THIS Wiki list a lot of the mods. Single player and MP.

I would look into these as they are some of the better ones........

Here's some pics I just took from it. Mostly Alyx. Um..there are like 7 models for her. I replaced a different model for each episode she shows up in. It just happens that in this area she is wearing a sheer top So I'll spoiler it since it is NSFW. And the pic of Dog holding up the door would make a great wallpaper in the big 1920 x 1200 version I have. And there's one pic of Ravenholm in there.

Just my opinion, but I hate it when 14 year olds start modding NPC's in games.

The changes to Alyx are the main reason I never tried the FakeFactory mods.  Valve went to great lengths to make her realistically attractive (and succeeded), while the FakeFactory guys just made her look like a half-naked slut.

She comes in 2 normal old Alyx models too. One is normal just better graphics and the other is normal with new clothes..not slutty ones.
