What's your favourite game soundtrack?

I'll give the nod to Jet Set Radio Future. Fantastic soundtrack that you can listen to outside of the game.

I will agree with you that it is good, but there are some seriously annoying songs on that game ("Birthday" in particular).

Halo? Are you nuts? There are like 3 or 4 really good tracks on there, and the rest are just sorta music to shoot to.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for the PS1. That is the best game soundtrack out there.

This would probably be my #2.  When listening to both this and KH's soundtrack I found KH to be so much better.

(Though Magnet Man from part 3 was always my favorite in the series.)

If it can include PC and Console,  I'd say The Dig, followed by Planescape Torment.

If it's only console, I'm going to have to give it to Chrono Cross. And Xenogears.

I refuse to pick only one on principle.

Now that I think about it, while Symphony of the Night is an excellent track, the musical themes of River City Ransom EX fit the bill for a perfect fighting game soundtrack.

Jet Set Radio is awesome.  I like Grim Fandango's soundtrack, too, and a mess of songs off PGR2.

Good call on Grim Fandango... Full Throttle had a pretty good soundtrack too.  For consoles, there's just something about the old Final Fantasy games that were hard to beat...

I still think the old soundtracks to Super Mario Brothers and The Legend of Zelda are phenomenal given the technological limitations.  They were sure catchy.  I haven't played either in nearly 15 years but I can hum them for you if you like.

I will place my vote for Parappa the Rapper.  Fantastic!

Grim Fandango was great.  Such style.

With the orchestral soundtracks of today it's dissapointing when they are poor.  So much time, energy, and money wasted.

My vote is for Final Fantasy Tactics although my favorite track/song from a game is the opening to Secret of Mana.

Ahh, GTA Vice City, man, that did have a fantastic soundtrack!

When I played GTA 3 and Vice City I always had to listen to the radio talk shows.  Even when I heard the same stuff 100 times I still loved it.  "Hey Lazlo..."  The music was great, though.  On the PC I had quite the custom soundtrack going, and I assume you can do the same on the Xbox.

Both had super music.  I think it's great they released the soundtracks, even in a nice boxed set.  Now if I were made of money I might have bought them...  Some enterprising young lad probably has a tool to extract them from the game, but I'm not that motivated to do it.

1. Project Gotham 2, I didn't like any one particular song, but the sheer volume of songs is unbeatable.

2. Megaman 2, the songs seem to be good even now.

If you're going for sheer volume of songs, Amped 2 has over 300 songs as well as what is absolutely the best implementation of custom soundtracks around.  I wasn't a fan of all of the songs, but it was nice having SO many of them, being able to skip ahead or back any time you wanted and having the songs continue right into the menus and back in game rather than cutting off a cool song.

In project gotham 2, it's not just on the sheer volume of songs, it's how they implemented the radio in the car to play localized stations. You hear russian music in russia, japanese music in japan, etc.
