A lot of the matchups were very very close, changing victors several times, but the only tie ended up being between Master of Orion and Master of Magic, each with 12 votes.  As before, anyone who did not vote for one of these games can enter a vote now.  If it is still a tie, I will flip a coin.  I will allow one day to break the tie and then we move on to Round 3.  You have until Wednesday at 6:00pm Eastern.  For the rest, feel free to add comments while we wait.

Damn anyone who voted for Heroes 2 and Ultima 7!!!  I curse you in the name of the gaming gods for eliminating Dungeon Master and Total Annihilation!  However, I am very pleased that the superior Gothic 2 and vastly superior Deus Ex downed Quake and Tie Fighter.

Well, if you make a  8 )  mark in the software (remove the space between them), it becomes a Cool (or the sunglasses guy). That's what it is.

And Wing Commander III won but Wing Commander didn't? Shame on you all. smile

For the most part I think the results are pretty close to the mark.

In one case however I have to vehemently disagree. Deus Ex doesn't even belong on the list at all. To have it beat out by Tie Fighter tells me that half the voters are too young to have played Tie Fighter. PC Gamer gave it the Best Game of All Time award until Half-Life came along. If Deux Ex survives round 3 I'll know this thing is rigged (j/k).

There I went back and disabled smilies.  I keep forgetting to do that. smile

I'm not too young to have played Tie Fighter (just barely) but I never did get to play it.  For me though, it doesn't matter.  I'm not a big fan of flight simulation type games.  And Deus Ex is probably the best FPS I have ever played with the possible exception of Half-Life.  It very successfully combined RPG elements and had a great story and graphics.

It's funny how everyone's tastes vary so widely. Deux Ex is on my list of the Top 10 Worst Games of all time along with such winners as Master of Orion 3 and Medieval: Total War. And yet Rome: Total War is on my list of the Top 10 Best Games of all time...

For me what makes a game bad is the degree of difference between what the game is supposed to do and what it actually does. Bugs, interface problems and game mechanic inconsistencies are the real killers for me. IMHO Deux Ex tried very hard, but fell too far short of the mark to be fun.

I suppose that factors in for me too, but I care more about how much fun a game is, how badly I want to play it when I'm away, or how often I am willing to play it over.  Are you sure you're not thinking about Deus Ex: Invisible War?  That failed miserably in trying to appeal too broadly and leaving behind the best parts of the original.  Deus Ex succeeded in almost every way.

By the way, there's not much time left to choose between MOO and MoM.  It's not going to stay too close to call.  I will use a trusty 25 cent piece if necessary.

I disagree. That is called disapointment i think. a game can be disapointing and yet still fun. Halflife 2 will probably be disapointing to many as they are thinking it is the second coming, but it will also likely be very fun.

Geeahh..  How does the seeding work here?  I'm thinking the first two rounds should have been seeded a lot differently.  I'm assuming its random though.

Like, whatever, and stuff smile

Ultima 7 is hands down the best RPG I've ever played.

I'm disappointed that Gabriel Knight 2 fared so poorly, but it was up against the almighty ( ) Civilization 2
