IGN's review is up.  9.0!

Quote
Closing Comments
The Beatles: Rock Band isn't for everyone. Like, say, people who don't care about The Beatles. If that's you, then move along. For those who have a love or even just a fondness for the Fab Four, Harmonix has created a fantastic tribute. It won't teach you the full history of the world's most celebrated band nor give you even a quarter of their extraordinary catalogue of music, but it's still great. The Beatles went out of their way to do new things. So it's no surprise that a Beatles game doesn't feel at all like the traditional music title. It's special. What Beatles fan would want it any other way?

I had a quick question about the two new $100 guitars. Are they made out of better materials for that price or are improved in any way over the RB2 ones?

Also, we already announced that the Sgt. Pepper album will be released later this year too, so that's 3 albums announced for DLC!

The intro movie was posted on The Beatles Rock Band site several months ago, too.

You need one mic per person.  While having two singers lean into one mic would be awesome, the technical end of getting that to happen would be immense.  I'd check Gamestops for used ones right now, as they're pretty cheap.

While we're on the mic thing, any idea when that patch for getting the LiPS mics to work with RB will be out?  Will that work with Beatles:RB?

Lips mics work for Beatles already.  I'm not sure what the status is of the patch to get them working in RB2 is.

So, I've been trying to track down a cheap copy of LiPS to no avail.  Has anyone seen one?

I played about 4 songs at PAX and really enjoyed it.  Don't expect anything earth shattering, but it does a nice job of giving you a Beatles experience and of course the music itself is top-notch.  I only played drums on the songs I played, so not sure how complex the guitar parts are.  Drum parts of the songs I played are pretty standard rock drumming.

Hey, did you use the instruments in your play?  Are they worth it?

I need a new drum set, and I was going to hunt down a GHWT set, but if I can find the whole collection at Costco, I may jump in.

Sadly they didn't send me the new instruments.  I knew they'd be in short supply.  Functionally they are the same, but damn they look pretty.

in the late 90s,being a massive Beatles fan(and still am)i went to Liverpool....me and a friend had a drink in the Cavern(well actually the new Cavern Club that got put up in the old ones place,or across the road..can't remember)..the new Pub is pretty nice, but its no recreation of the old Cavern that we have all seen in the old videos...lots of cool memorabilia on the wall though

i had a Smoke on Penny Lane(i quit smoking a few years later)...Penny Lane did have all the barbers etc that's mentioned in the song,however..most have closed down now(or most just weren't there at all and got replaced by other shops),i have a picture of me stood next to the Penny Lane Road sign

and i jumped the walls and had a piss in Strawberry Fields,my mate said he was disgusted that i would do that, but i said i wanted to leave a little part of me there, and no way was i gonna be having a shit!!...i have a picture of me stood outside the Strawberry Fields gates, lots of graffiti from tourists from all over the world on the posts, which was cool to read, lots of Japanese(i think Strawberry Fields was either a Children's home or an old folks home,i can't remember)

during that day i also took in the Beatles tour at Albert Dock, which was pretty damn cool(Lennons white Piano was there at the time)..and even went looking for where they all lived(Menlove Avenue where John lived wasn't that far from Strawberry Fields)..oh,and i also bought a load of Beatles stuff from the shops there,my Beatles Bible(which told of everything all 4 of them recorded from late 50s to about 1995..cover versions, wings, travelling wilbury's..you name it)and VHS(thats how long ago it was) boxset of the Beatles Anthology...which was around the time i went(Free as a Bird/Real Love)

it was a great day out...however as i am in Manchester, which took us about 30 minutes down the East Lancs road to get to Liverpool,i would reckon most of you would have to make it more than a day out....i would certainly recommend it though, just close your eyes when going through Bootle, which is a suburb in Liverpool(what a dump!!..or at least it was in the late 90s)

I woke up this morning with this musical phrase in my head: "It won't be long now (yeah, yeah, yeah) It won't be long now (yeah, yeah, yeah)"  Over and over in the shower.  Oddly, I didn't even make the connection as to why I might be singing that until midway through my wash.

It's been really interesting seeing how this game is getting covered by the non-gaming media. I saw an article this morning somewhere that said the game will let you "download up to 45 Beatles songs" to play. Despite errors like that, though, the coverage seems to range from at least "glowing" all the way to "this is the second coming.". Nice to see gaming not be evil for once.

It really is a happy story in that it has the blessings of all the Beatles and/or their estates. So many times these licenses get bogged down in legalities - it's good to see something "Come Together" with the full support of the artist. Fans can feel good that not only are they getting a Beatles game, they're getting the game The Beatles wanted us to play.

By the way, Chaz, when I was using my Gaming Trend press pass to cut in line to play Beatles Rock Band at PAX, I was talking to one of the Harmonix folks and saying that one of our forum goers worked in QA at Harmonix and he never gives us scoops on anything and so he needed to be fired.

I got a text message from Gamestop saying I could pick it up Wednesday morning, so I'm guessing probably not.  I have to say I'm liking this new text message notification better than cracked out Ashley.

My local Gamestop is doing the midnight launch. Apparently they didn't get a ton of preorders but did have enough to go ahead and open the doors tonight. They don't have anything else going on though, just pick up the game and that's it.

We had our release party tonight.  Afterward, I was stumbling home shortly after midnight.  I looked up and saw a bus heading toward me.  Through the window, I could see a guy cradling a Beatles: Rock Band bundle in his lap.

I smiled.  Yup, it's officially out, guys.  biggrin

Best Buy would make the most sense for having a midnight release as they'll also have the CD's too.

Ouch.  I mean, Dhani plugged the game plenty, but in the storytelling he must've said "Guitar Hero" a dozen times and "Rock Band" no more than once.  And when they all went to play the game, they had two guitarists and Conan on the bass even though one of them was obviously not connected to the game.

Pretty cool though (for Harmonix) that Dhani almost chided Conan for plugging the remastered Beatles albums for a moment instead of keeping on topic with the video game.

that's because his inspiration to get the game started was Guitar Hero and not Rock Band since RB wasn't out yet at that time.  Still sucks from a marketing perspective, but he told the story accurately at least.
