Well later this summer anyways. Looks like they want to go head to head with TF2 , at least in the style dept. Im all for it.  And free is great.

Games for Windows has a feature on the cartoonish game, next issue:
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3165532

Expect to hear much howling of "rip off" from Team Fortress 2 fans, though I thought TF2 was a visual rip off of Pixar's The Incredibles myself.  icon_twisted

Free is nice, but I think I'm not crazy about micro transactions (I'm not what works on XBLA will appeal in PC gaming land) and in-game advertising.

"Free Game" and "EA" are two things I can't visualize going together.

+1  I'm so in on this.  BF1942 is one of my fav-o games of all time.

They can go together.  You get the same result as mixing matter and antimatter, but they can go together.

Well, it's ad supported -- maybe you have to wear EA Sports T-shirts in the game.  Tongue And micro-transactions, maybe you have to buy all your bullets. I wouldn't put it past EA.  icon_lol

Blues News posted about a German site's 3-part interview about the game (intros are in German but actual interviews are in English):

Oh, as someone tired of FPS motion sickness problems, apparently this is a 3rd-person only game (presumably to show off the cartoonish character models more) with no FPS option:

Huh. Very surprising, but really why not? No reason it can't work as well like that.

The CGW that had the article about this is on stands now, fwiw. I might actually be interested in it when it releases or goes into open testing (I haven't bought a Battlefield game since the original BF1942).

They kinda make it clear in the interviews they're going after a more casual gaming audience. Characters have deep health pools (no one shot kills to worry about), and spawning points are faster, often with vehicles nearby. The goal seems to be a more forgiving game, that gets you into action quickly, and with less "dead time" waiting for the next spawn opportunity to occur.

Whether they think it's going to broaden their market to appeal to a more casual set, or be a subtle way to draw people into team shooters who stay away because they suck at them (hey, it's me! Tongue), not sure.

Yep the  article sold me on it.  I think it looks fun as hell.  They stated numerous times that you will not need to spend $ to compete.  No in game ads either, only in the server portal section(we'll see).  A ton of character customization options as well with a variety of 'skills' that you can unlock by earning in game currency, with more being added over time.  Real $ does not equal in game currency.  You can however spend real $ on
items that will increase you gained exp, etc.  Nothing that will directly make you more powerful.

Delicious irony because the game is free?

Prolly a placeholder ad.

Well, just don't buy any of their microtransactions. You're using up their bandwith, and giving EA nothing in return (short of ad revenue). biggrin
