Playing this on PC and it's fine and all... but I seriously cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would play this over CoD.
They both scratch a different itch. Want faster action go CoD. Want a little more strategy along with tanks, atvs, choppers, boats, apcs, jets, and bigger maps? Go Battlefield.

Want death-by-Kato?

Do either. He can shoot you in Battlefield 4 on PC from his 360 CoD match. paranoid

this will probably be a very good game in a few months, but this is definitely one of the buggiest pieces of shit I've played at the moment.  Great fun when it's working, but holy hell is it hard to get there.

Playing BF4 is also so much more dependent on who you're playing with than the CoD series.  It's designed to be played with coordination between squads so most sessions just suck.  No one spots, joins squads balancing kits, etc.  I don't get why people even play it if they don't want to run squads.

That said, if you can get the right group together, it's a freakin' blast.

I missed it if you said it, but what platform are you playing on?  Are the maps bigger on the PC this time around?

playing on 360 so yes the pc maps are bigger.  On the XB1 though it will be the same as pc in map size and player count.

The biggest problems right now is you pretty much can't even get in a game with friends reliably and when you do, the game crashes.

Acknowledged problems list (there are many): http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/forum/threadview/2955065217944685108/

And the PC has Conquest Large maps but man are they terrible. I don't even bother playing them.

I had quite a few crashes yesterday on the PS4 and I can't get into the (only one??) 64 player Conquest server.  Searches around the net show that no one seems able to.  When I have been in, it's been good Battlefield fun and it looks much better than the dreadful PS3 beta.  Been playing mostly Rush, but would like to try some Conquest, as I really enjoy that mode too.

I knew the PC version that I have was very crash-y, but I didn't expect the console versions to have that same trouble as well.  That's pretty disappointing.  It seems like DICE always screws up their games at launch, despite mostly shipping an improved version of the same game each time.

EA briefly tried to pin the instabilities on Sony's release day firmware update, but almost immediately recanted:

Quote from: Examiner.com
Quote from: Electronic Arts
Sony has released a firmware update for the PlayStation 4 that is required for many features on the console. However, this update also results in stability issues while playing games on the system.

This affects all games on the PS4, including EA titles, causing crashing/freezing and non-responsive connections between the player's console and their TV Screen.

Unfortunately since it's an issue with Sony's firmware, it requires a new update to fix it. Sony is working to resolve the issue as quickly as they can. They will update their System Update page as new versions are made available, and we will keep this page updated as we find out more.

However, Electronic Arts would later remove the message that blamed the issues towards Sony Computer Entertainment, saying that it was “posted in error.”

For what it's worth: we have not played Battlefield 4 on the PS4 yet, but everything else we've tried has worked perfectly under the current firmware.

Ok holy shit. I just played a 64 player conquest on a map with a bunch of little island bases and lots of water.  In the middle of the match, there's burning buildings pouring smoke from all over, sun peeking through the smoke/clouds, jets and helos flying all over, bullets and grenades going off, and then a storm hits with wind and rain.  Easily one of the coolest experiences I've ever had gaming.  Just wow.

Aahh, I just assumed you had only been playing the console versions with smaller maps and lower player counts.  Plus it was just a bit of a friendly jibe.  smile

Not sure what breaks is referring to.  Played fine for me post patch on PS4.

The Conquest mode is so awesome in this game.  It's back to the fun that BC2 was for me.  So much destruction to be had on a massive scale.

I like obliteration mode the best.  And it looks glorious on my PC. Even better looking than the consoles.  PC's will always be next gen smile

Couple of questions:

Is there a way to see the map during gameplay and not just when you are spawning?  I want to see a larger version, not just the mini map.

Is there a way to change audio options to English only audio?  Previous games you could and the audio would just have an accent.

Is saving $5 worth the time and effort to get the 360 version from Amazon and then ship it back to them before you can get the XBox One version when you can just buy that version now for $50?

I went PC for $20.  I played a couple rounds, and the lag and rubberbanding was disconcerting.  There was a queue to get online, as I assume the net is overrun with kiddies out on break.

I was playing on one server today and I think I like Hardcore mode.  I think I TK'ed a few teammates though because it doesn't have show them as friendly until you are closer, and even then you can miss it as there is a slight delay.  no mini-map or health/ammo meter was fun, plus less health made it interesting though.

damn, just noticed I have two $15 off coupons from Gamefly, and they stack, so I could buy Premium for $19.99.....  they expire the 10th so I guess I'll need to get in some playtime to see if I think the MP will keep me coming back.

I tried to join 5 games yesterday.  3 directly to servers on the list, it just sat there doing nothing.  Hit quick match, waited, screen changed then went back to join game screen.  Finally hit quick match for conquest and it put me in a team deathmatch game.  Going back to COD for a bit.

it's quite good when you can play with your friends, but we know your track record with that so it's probably not worth premium for you.  ninja

I've had no trouble joining a match on PS4 for the last week or so. I've been using server browser though fwiw, so that I can set filters for what I'm looking for.  Maybe try that.  I think there's a title update for Xbone today too?

No not me, I only have BF4 for PC and XBone and I haven't played in a while. I thought I saw Jarrod playing China Rising last week so it may just be many of the odd things going on with BF.
