It looks like they dropped not only the hard case but also the leather jacket from the journal.  That seems pretty cheap given how much the thing costs.

no prob  Tongue  I noticed on the Gamestop website they've changed the box to the one you posted but they still list the journal as having a leather dust jacket.  I love how they list 'full color manual' as a selling point for the CE.

And from the Sucks Ass Dept:

Quote
Game Informer has learned that Eidos Interactive may be keeping its bat in the belfry until the holiday season. According to print advertising and release dates on retail sites, Batman: Arkham Asylum is scheduled to ship on June 23. The game’s official website simply lists a summer timeframe. Today sources close to the game told Game Informer that the release date was being pushed until the fourth quarter of 2009. When contacted on whether or not the date was moving, neither Eidos Interactive nor Warner Bros. were willing to comment on the possibility of a delay. When asked if the June 23 release date was still valid, a Warner Bros. representative said, “Sorry - no comment.”

This better be wrong, but given the anticipation for B:AA, it wouldn't surprise me.

And just when I thought publishers were learning this lesson.

F.U.C.K.  thumbsdown  if that's the case I'll have to skip the CE edition since I'll be buying every other game that every other publisher feels the need to release since people only buy games during September through November.

Batman Arkham Asylum Date Follow-up

[May 01, 2009, 12:18 pm ET] - Share - Post a Comment
VG247 has a follow-up from Eidos saying Batman Arkham Asylum is still on track for release this summer, in spite of a rumor on Game Informer that the superhero game is delayed. They do not actually reaffirm the previous June 23 release date in a denial that reads: "Batman: Arkham Asylum is currently scheduled for a summer 2009 release date." Of course, "currently scheduled" sounds carefully worded, and VG247 expresses their own skepticism, suggesting this news be accompanied by a grain of salt.

Maybe some good news here.

so now it can be released in September through November with all the other titles that are coming out.  Since that'll rule out the CE with me I may just go with the PC version which I'm sure I can find at a much discounted price.

It says "end of summer", so hopefully that means September or earlier.

I have to agree, though, May/June is looking like a really busy release schedule.  Here are the ones I have on my want-list right now, and I know there are more that appeal to other gamers as well (Sacred 2, UFC, Terminator: Salavtion, Damnation, Tiger Woods, Overlord 2, Call of Juarez 2, Fight Night Round 4, etc):

Quote
Bionic Commando          5/19
Fuel                              5/26
Prototype                      6/9
Red Faction                   6/9
Ghostbusters                 6/16
Batman                         6/23

Just looking at what's due in September doesn't make it look to be any better if they're looking for a light release area.

These are what's tentatively due (not including anything that may be announced at E3):

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2
WET
Operation Flashpoint 2
Borderlands
Beatles: Rock Band
Singularity

not to mention others I'm not interested in (yet), like Halo 3: ODST, Dirt 2, NHL 2010, Need for Speed Shift and Splatterhouse.

since they say late summer I'd pretty much rule out July, and August I'd give a 50/50 chance.  I haven't even looked at October/November yet, but, barring any delays, we have at the very least Modern Warfare 2, AssCreed 2, Dragon Age, Alpha Protocol, Bioshock 2, Mafia 2, Brutal Legend, probably a new Guitar Hero game, Rock Band LEGO and probably the new Splinter Cell game.

so... what was my point again... oh yeah, there's no real clear spots for release except maybe July and possibly August.

i played a demo on a ps3 yesterday and this looks pretty damn fun.  it was a demo of the challenge mode against an increasing amount of bad guys, so you really get a feel for the combat and the animation, but little else.

combat was pretty damn fun and even though i didn't know what i was doing when i started, i picked it up pretty quickly.  attack, counter and jumping came into it pretty easy and you flow from one enemy to another pretty smoothly.  whenever you sense a punch coming you way, a blue aura shines over their head and you have a second or so to react, either by moving or countering.  countering looks pretty damn cool and you'll pull off some interesting moves to do so, especially when they are armed.  there's also a super move, but i couldn't pull one off.  not sure if i was doing it wrong or if you need to build up to it.  the mode keeps track of your combo's and gives you points based on how well you keep the combo going.  at the end of each round, you get a slo-motion view of your last attack, and you can get a good view of how brutal the fighting is.  there are also environmental hazards.  i saw electrical arcs in this map.

no idea how the ranged combat could work as i didn't get a second round with it.  overall, it's similar to assassin's creed, but not as lethal and much smoother transitions between enemies.  hard to tell how complex the combat is, but first impression is that it's a bit on the soft side when compared against other brawlers.

oh, and joker had some lines in the demo, but batman was a silent knight.

25th August -NA
28th August -EU

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/29/batman-arkham-asylum-committed-to-retail-aug-25-in-na-aug-28/

Quote
The Dark Knight is finally ready examine the bats in Arkham Asylum's belfry on August 25 in North America and August 28 in Europa. The game had previously been delayed to "late summer" from its June 23 release date, so the wait doesn't appear to be much longer, but it's already felt like a Ra's al Ghul lifetime.

Remember that if you're not looking to play so seriously, that the Joker will be an "exclusive" character in the PS3 version of the game. Batman: Arkham Asylum will be playable at E3 next week and we'll be sure to give our updated hands-on impressions of the game that might actually do Batman justice.

not too bad a delay after all,i do believe at the moment, end of August is pretty free from other big games that i know of

that second paragraph(and the vid),wasnt it said that the Joker was to come to XBLM...i am sure that was said after about 3 days when SONY said the Joker was PS3 exclusive

I wasn't that interested in this because at first I thought it was just a brawler. The last Batman game I played was I think the Batman Begins one, where they put more emphasis on you sneaking around and trying to scare the crap out of the bad guys. I really enjoyed it, and was hoping for some of that gameplay here. After watching some of the videos on xbox live, it looks like they actually did put that gameplay mechanic into the game, so now it could be a day one purchase for me if the money situation works out.  thumbsup

Seriously, WHY are PRESS release PEOPLE always putting lots of CAPITAL WORDS all over THE PLACE in their PR posts? IT looks REALLY dumb to see IT all over through THE WHOLE thing.

On a completely different (and caps-lock free) thought - I'm impressed the demo is coming out before the game. Go Eidos/Square/Enix/whatever they are now for knowing that they have a hit on their hands.

I guess for the same reason that certain comics do the same: To let even the people with the attention span of a common housefly be able to see what's going on without reading the whole text. I hate it with a passion.

It's strangely appropriate for a superhero game though...

Seriously, WHY are PRESS release PEOPLE always putting lots of CAPITAL WORDS all over THE PLACE in their PR posts? IT looks REALLY dumb to see IT all over through THE WHOLE thing.

I guess for the same reason that certain comics do the same: To let even the people with the attention span of a common housefly be able to see what's going on without reading the whole text. I hate it with a passion.

It's strangely appropriate for a superhero game though...

at least they don't use an exclamation point for the end of every sentence!  it gets annoying!  especially like they used to in the Fantastic Four! that's my two cents! Carry on!

I played the shit out of this at E3. I've been doing my best to keep my anticipation at bay but as release day crawls torturously closer it's hard not to become excited. This game is gonna rock, it screams personality  icon_cool

For anyone who might be interested, there's a $5 off coupon to get any version of Batman at Amazon.  Knocks the regular version down to $48, which I'm all over.

Enter 5OFFARKM at checkout.  Don't know how long it goes for.

okay , tried the demo, and it is everything I wanted!

The demo itself is very short, 15 minutes of playing or so, but lets you get to grip with everything you need to play. Right from hitting, counter attacking, silent takedowns, grappling, battarang throwing, all the fun stuff!

In day one!
