And people wonder, weren't they dead already?

Not to belittle what must be a terrible time for the staff, but can anyone here think of anything else besides Dark Reign and Fury that the studio has done?

There was that niche game Trainz that must have kept the studio afloat for a while, but other than that, the studio simply wasn't doing anything.  Dark Reign was great for its time, but that was a long time ago.  And we all could see what would happen to Fury in this MMO saturated market long before it released.

I dunno, just seems like bad management to me.  Probably unable to secure deals with bigger publishers to work on bigger projects, and inability to switch focus to smaller games and perhaps contract work to raise money for internal projects.  Then they jump on the MMO bandwagon with an instance based action combat MMO, that single player or non MMO multiplayer games do better without the monthly fee.  Basically the same reason why auto assault failed.

Sad to see them go, hopefully some of the staff in Australia can form a new studio to work on some new things.

I'm going to say yes, as I have absolutely no idea who they are, much less their games (short of Fury, which the only reason I've heard of is because the game just went free like yesterday).

I had been hoping for a modern release of "Trainz" for some time now, but am not surprised to see them fold.

I stumbled upon a bit more information about Fury and the company as a whole if you're curious as to a read.

Ahh too bad. Dark Reign was way ahead of its time, issues and all.

They should never tried to make MMO... It's just too much price to pay.

They may not have made the best or biggest games, but they've been around for over 10 years and it's always sad to see another game company fold.  frown

i really wish they had followed up dark reign with a proper sequel.  there were some pretty cool ideas in that game.
