How soon till PETA goes bezerk for the whale hunting?

People should go berserk over the whale hunting.  It's ridiculous to include.

as long as it's a whale of a good time and not padding out the game length on porpoise.

I saw on Ubisofts God Awful UPlay store(accessed from ACII yesterday),that there are some rewards for AC4 Black Flag already, but you can't purchase them until you have the game

I have put them in spoilers incase one of the descriptions spoils some part of the storyline in AC4(even if it does, its nothing that major i guess)

Spoiler for Hiden:
Edward The Legend Outfit -20u
Equip Edward with an authentic pirate costume

The Vengeful Daughter Pack-40u
Unlock the Lady Black's Vengeful Daughter costume, and customize The Jackdaw with epic items in single player.

Whale hunting is period-correct.  In this context, I don't have a problem with it.

I'd like to see the cancelled Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned resurrected.  perhaps this will do well enough to get them to consider it smile

I haven't watched many of the videos, but I'm having a hard time being excited about this game. Perhaps AC3 has spoiled my interest in the franchise.

wow i must be one of the few people who actually liked ac3!  i was late to the party on it after being a bit turned off by ac:rev and not exactly thrilled with the change in locale (what the heck can you climb in 18th century woodlands??? slywink ) but ended up really enjoying almost all aspects of the game

the only thing thats a BIT odd to me about this next one is stepping back in time (heh, irony) instead of pushing forward but otherwise i like every video i see

I actually liked it too.  I think I overstepped my review (it was admittedly rushed) but I did enjoy it.   I called out the need for a naval battle game in my review, and I'm more than pleased with what they are giving us.

Not overly excited or interested in this, sadly.

The gameplay video shows just how compact and small the world is. Everything happens within 10 feet of eachother. The ships apparently run on nuclear power and can start instantly. 10 feet out a battle is happening, another 10 feet out a ruined island is there, another 10 feet out and another thing is going on. Where's the majesty of the wide open ocean gone? Oh wait, this is for the COD kids I fear. They cant sit still without anything going on for 10 seconds of course, so it HAS to be ACTION, ACTION, ACTION!

AC3 was not a good game, but a bunch of mediocre systems built on top of each other - This does not look any different. I would love to the proven wrong, but the series is turning into a gamepark of small game segments I fear.

It looks awesome though.

I'm playing AC3 now and have to say I'm enjoying it. The first set of naval battles was a blast. Can't wait for more of that and upgrading my ship. Also was a hoot taking part in the Boston Tea party. I still agree it was an odd setting choice for a climbing game and I like the middle east and Rome better. I also have a few glitches. But it still has a lot of AC magic for me, but then I'm a pretty forgiving gamer. As long as I'm having some kind of fun, that's fine.

Sailing is *Very* cool in AC3 - its easily the best part of the game in my opinion.

This is probably because you were late to the party. Some of the biggest problems with the game were patched somewhat, which made it less atrocious.

MASSIVE blowout here at GT tomorrow at 9am.   I went hands-on for a full day with the game.  An interview with the Game Director, a video preview, and several thousand words to say on the subject will hit here in just a few hours.   If you are interested in the game (or just want to see me stumble through an interview on camera) make sure you tune in to the front page.  smile

Oh and we aren't done...expect a similarly detailed look at the multiplayer in the next few days.

It was buggy, but reasonably fun. It was way better than AC:Rev. Cripes, I managed to break that game. It would crash every 15 seconds. Apparently loading up your assassin away missions to every locale at once (all 20 min missions) at the same time brings it to its knees.

Good job on the interview. smile

Other than the touchpad, are there any other next-gen things being used on Wii U, PS4 and XBOne?

The companion app: free? Does it work with just next-gen or current gen consoles too?

The touchpad on the PS4 was kinda neat, but nothing that'll blow me out of the water.  We didn't get to see the Wii U version, but I suspect it'll be pretty much just like the second screen experience, just built into the controller.

The companion app is free, and it does work with current-gen and next-gen.  smile

And thanks.  I hate being in front of the camera, so it's a bit nerve-wracking for me.

interesting that the 2nd screen isn't an xb1 exclusive.  hopefully more games do this.  I'd kill for an interactive map app for GTA V for instance.

as for this, obviously graphics are much improved.  what about the environment details, how are they improved?  how well is stealth handled compared to AC3?  in that, if you were discovered hiding in a bush, it was pretty much an instant alert and your character stupidly stood up on his own.  I much prefer what GTA V has done with line of sight and investigation AI instead of instantly swarming guards.

also, you have a typo in your preview post above.

What's the typo? I'll go fix it.   With that many words, it's bound to happen.  smile

The environments are pretty fantastic.  The dynamic weather system makes the leaves move individually, the water looks 'briney' and foamy as ships pull through it, and the smoke is pretty fantastic.  There were some fights on sea that had me struggling to see until the cannon smoke cleared - pretty cool effect that the enemy seems to have to obey as well.

As for stealth, it's no longer instantaneous.   I had a few instances where I did something dumb and was swarmed, but for the most part the guards have to really eyeball you for a moment to figure out that you don't belong.  It is, as you said, more like GTA V.  The line of sight especially - people have a cone of vision (as do ships) and if you stay out of it you are pretty safe.  It's a pretty solid improvement over omnipotent guards with 360 degree vision.

so the PC version is kind of delayed, since it's launching with the XB1 and Ps4 versions instead of the 360, Wii U and Ps3 versions.

interesting that the 2nd screen isn't an xb1 exclusive.  hopefully more games do this.

I much prefer what GTA V has done with line of sight and investigation AI instead of instantly swarming guards.

also, you have a typo in your preview post above.

thanks Ron.

this is where the typo is.  you have a comma instead of a period.

Hasn't pretty much every AC game that has come to PC come out later than the consoles, though?

I'd be surprised if it even comes out at the same time as the Xbox One and PS4 versions in the end. Ubisoft is too predictable for that.

yeah, even after they said it was going to be delayed, and then turned around to say it wasn't going to be delayed from the end of October.  oh well, not sure what I'll do with the extreme lack of games coming out over the next few months.
