Its a sad commentary that Im hoping Calling all Cars comes out this week. As Im dont with resitance and motostorm. Mostly due to the 360 having all the titles on the PS3 first, this is the worst dry spell for a console since I bought the N64 on launch day.. Things dont look good, Sony better have AAA titles this xmas or the Wii's momentum and the 360' with Halo3 is going to really hurt the PS3.

Poorly planned man, God of war 2 should have been a ps3 title on launch...

Im sure calling all cars will be delayed again.. I havent put my PS3 on in a few weeks...

Im not trolling here, I love the PS3.. I just cant believe how few quality games there are for it.

I'm with you!

Although, I'm really looking forward to MLB:The Show next week.

Other than that, I think I see tumbleweeds blowing through the PS3 release list....

I'm actually not that worried. I remember the summer after the PS2's launch, nothing until Gran Turismo 3 and NCAA Football hit in the late Summer. So I think it will catch up, especially with some of Sony's offerings later this year. I will probably be getting MLB the Show, and nothing much until this Fall.

360 was the same way this time last year. The release list for PS3 looks pretty good. The sad part (for Sony) is how few exclusives there are.
They need to find a way to push more units so they can start hanging on to more exclusives, which will in turn sell more units.

It will be fine. In fact, that MLB title for next week is VERY high on my list. Hell, as it is, I can't peel myself away from the Formula 1 game to play Motorstorm or Resistance, and I just got Command and Conquer 3 for the 360 yesterday, so I have a full plate anyway.

My reasons were for the Blu-Ray playback, the Sony "line of games", and the football games, where I have ALWAYS preferred the "Dualshock" type of controller.

Yeah, its coming. Honestly, outside of its uses for racing games, I don't need to have vibration. I could care less about it in say, Baseball or Basketball games.

I think the PS3 might be my Christmas gift to myself this year unless something new and shiny comes along.  I really want to wait for at least 5 exlusives that I want before I buy it but I'm kinda itching to get my hands on Blu Ray.

The current thought is that once the licensing 'agreements' (lawsuit with the rumble guys) comes fully to pass, there will be a new PS3 controller out there that has rumble.

Then of course, games have to be designed to support it. And since not everybody will have a rumble-enabled controller (but most will, as Sony would be stupid not to replace the current pack-in controller with one that has rumble), odds are devs won't fully support the thing.

Yeah, I think we can all pretty much agree that a new PS3 controller with rumble will be released before MGS4 hits the market.

Perhaps you should try some of the PS2 games coming out?  There's Odin sphere for action RPGs, looks pretty good.  Not sure what else but I recall the PS2 release list was still very healthy.

Plenty of older titles too.

Oh and they settled the rumble lawsuit not too long ago, so expect to see a new design of the PS3 controller including both rumble and motion sensing.  Hopefully they'll update the controller design in general because the Dual Shock 2, while great, isn't for everyone.

Personally, the PS2 is what is keeping my PS3 fired up. I only own one game for my PS3 (VF5), and a whole slew of PS2 titles (with more coming out I'll be getting before the end of the year).

Of course, I don't own that many 360 titles either right now. *shrugs*

I really don't. The system has no flashy gimmick to attract non-gamers and random people to buy it in droves for the rather basic sports and amusement games, boasts almost none of the system selling type games or the libarary of the 360 and has been losing exclusives left and right. I like the PS3, and I am going to own another soon. But I firmly believe it would be in last place regardless at 400$ with the way the launch was handled, the library of the games, and the upcoming exclusives.

Me too. I am desperate for an HD gaming system, but there isn't one at a price I consider acceptable with enough games I want. I figure eventually the PS3 will be that machine, but it's going to take a while if they remain stubborn about their ridiculous price. Maybe if they improve their Blu-Ray functionality to be something half way acceptable to me, I will rethink the price, but for now it's just an expensive gaming system with a half assed Blu-Ray add on to me.

Even with no games to play, I'd give up my 360 long before my PS3. I use my PS3 almost every day, and I haven't put a game disc in it for months.

I have heard varying reports on the AVS Forums about its image qualities as a Blu-Ray player, however that's not really my issue. One of the features I look foreward to when I one day own a "next gen" DVD player is that they all reportedly do an outstanding job of upconverting regular DVDs (which I own a lot of). The PS3 doesn't have this feature currently. It may (or may not) have it in the future.

Also, the remote is Blue Tooth only, which means I can't program my universal remote to control it. This is a big negative as I have gotten used to having only one remote in my living room. There are some workarounds to this, but as far as I know, presently, they don't provide full functionality.

That's two big flaws for me personally which would limit its use as a DVD player to limited (Blu-Ray only) play, and would probably still leave me wanting a more "proper" next gen DVD solution. The fact that I wouldn't want to replace my current DVD player with the PS3 (I would definitely replace it with any other "next gen" DVD player) also presents me with some limited input options on my TV/Receiver.

So for my needs the PS3 is a halfassed Blu-Ray player.

It is without question one of the 3 best, and has substantial advantages over the other players in that it can be updated. Some people just don't like the PS3, thats fine, no big deal. but to me, its worth what I paid for it, same with Gellar and probably 90% of the rest of the people that bought one. To Denog, its not, and like everyone else, he is welcome to not buy one right now.

I do not dispute that you get alot for your money with a PS3 with regards to hardware.  Based on just hardware alone I feel much better about spending $600 on a PS3 than $250 on a Wii.  I will own a PS3 someday.  Just not yet.

Well, to be fair, your two stated items have nothing to do with it being a Blu-Ray player.  Your needs are for an upconverting DVD player.  It's an excellent Blu-Ray player, particularly for the price.  It's made me consider selling my HD-DVD addon, but admittedly part of that is because I don't want my apparently very, very fragile 360 doing any more than it absolutely has to.

You are correct, however, in that it does not currently upconvert DVDs (something that honestly is WAY overrated - most HDTVs do a decent job of upconverting on their own) and it is a bit of an annoyance that I have to have a separate remote for it.  That being said, I do like the concept of a Bluetooth remote in that it is nondirectional.

Yeah I'll readily admit that the primary use of my PS3 this week is to watch the Planet Earth DVD series on BD.  And you know... I really, really love it for that.
