Oh man...that's great.  I keep ARMA installed because it's the best tank sim game I own for modern tanks.  I use it as my own personal M1 Tank Platoon update. smile

Arma2 or OFP2 need to be good so I have a reason to upgrade even though ArmA would run so much better if I did now. I love me some old school tac-sims. Either those or Ground Branch, I just need tactical lovin'.

Just had a look at this video and it looks great. I hope both games plays well on a 360 because that is the format I will play them on.

I'd read some reviews first.  The original port of Operation Flashpoint to the Xbox was a mess.  It came out about 4 years after the PC release, but with inferior graphics and a useless control scheme.

The next gen version will hopefully at least be able to keep pace in terms of graphics to the PC, but these games always have such demanding controls that I'm not sure how they'll make it work with a gamepad.

Maybe but Codemaster at least have alot of experience with 360 so maybe OFP2 is
a better option for consoles?

I'm wondering how the console versions will handle the open world aspect without alot of pop in and stutters from loading.

Possibly.  Keep in mind though this is the first time Codemasters is making an Operation Flashpoint game.  The original OpFlash was created by Bohemia Interactive, who went on to make ARMA and now ARMA II.  Codemasters simply published the original Operation Flashpoint.  They held onto the rights to the name, hence why Bohemia Interactive had to change the name for the sequel.  Codemasters certainly makes some great games, but I`d say Bohemia Interactive has a bit more experience with this particular genre.  Either way I consider it a win win situation when two companies create a game in a genre I like.

I`m guessing the game will push most PCs to their limits on launch as well, but will have settings that can take advantage of future hardware.

The AI is important, but with this type of game graphics play an equally important role.  ARMA had a very impressive 10KM draw distance and if you had the right weapons, you could have some insanely long range firefights.  When you bring air vehicles into the mix like the A-10, if you can't see the enemy from a reasonable distance out you're playing with a handicap.
While you certainly didnít need to run ARMA on its absolute maximum settings, when the draw distance was turned down too much it made the game unplayable.

some environmental pics and other info about the play area.  the fourth one is just sick; I hope they put in a mode where you can just travel around exploring without having to worry about the pesky bad guys.

Just load up the map in the editor and drop down whatever ride you want.

Sadly my rig won't run ArmA2 or even OFP2. Once I clear my backlog down I'll probably upgrade. Hopefully both of those games will be out and patched up a bit.

I'll definitely end up with ArmA2 at some point as I really like OFP and ArmA..warts and all. I also like how Bohemia supports their products and keeps working on patches (ArmA got a new beta patch 1.16 at the end of Apr).

I still loves me some OFP and ArmA anyway!! Once the next windows is out and I hear some game feedback I'll be due for a main rig upgrade to play ArmA2 (And OFP2 if its good..please both be!)

as far as I know ARMA 2 is PC only, OpFor 2 is the only one that is going to be multiplatform.

I'm not buying this.  ArmA1 was a mess, ArmA2 looks to continue the trend.  There's a competitor to this type of game too, so it's not like we don't have a choice over a buggy mess.

Initial reports are that the beta patch has greatly improved the initial German release to a respectable state.  Time will tell.

People at QT3 are implying it is as buggy as ArmA at release. Which is pretty bad. I'm sick of waiting for games I buy to get playable.

I may end up just waiting for OpFlash 2.

I don't read QT3- are they playing with the most current patches?  I won't be able to get it this week (won't be around to play it so it doesn't make sense spending the cash) but if the most current patches are still lacking I'll hold off even longer.

now they're saying July 7th for the North American release, I wonder if Steam will change their date or if they'll have an early release:

Quote
Prague, Czech Republic, June 22nd - Bohemia Interactive, creators of award winning military simulation Operation Flashpoint* and ArmA: Combat Operations and Got Game Entertainment, US leading publisher of interactive entertainment games, announced today their partnership for the North American retail release of ARMA II, one of the most anticipated PC Game of 2009. The two companies have partnered together to bring the game to most major retail outlets throughout North America this July.

Bohemia Interactive once invented the genre of realistic military sand-box games and it aims now to re-define that genre with its upcoming game ARMA II, the ultimate military simulator, powered by the 3rd generation of their original Real Virtuality engine that's also used to train soldiers in numerous countries from Australia to the United States.

"North America is one of the most powerful and important markets in terms of a game's marketing and distribution," said Marek Spanel, Bohemia's CEO. Spanel continues "We were looking for responsible and credible partners who will focus on ARMA II with the kind of drive and enthusiasm that this huge project deserves. We feel Got Game Ent. will be the right partner for us and I believe together we will make ARMA II a success in North America."

"We are very excited to bring ARMA II to the North American market," said Got Game Entertainment President Howard Horowitz. "This caliber of game brings Got Game Entertainment to a new level of excellence and certainly ushers in a new era for our company."

ARMA II will offer the ultimate realistic combat simulation experience in a modern day setting. With unprecedented freedom of movement, actions and tactics, unbeatable detailed weapons and military hardware, easy-to-use built in mission editor and one of the most dedicated online communities around. The game will allow players to immerse themselves into the battle as never before.

ARMA II is scheduled for an in store Date of July 7th, 2009. For more information please visit the official homepage at www.arma2.com and www.GotGameEntertainment.com
