I'm actually planning to buy myself a brand-new X-Box in the very near future to replace the old launch unit I've been using all these years.

Microsoft has stated in OXM that they do plan on eventually getting all the original games to be backward compatiable. All games except for the Halo series requires a software emulator to be written for each game.
You have to download it form Xbox Live or burn it to a CD and install it on the Xbox 360.
I just finished Baldur's Gate II: Dark Alliance and did not have any issues except for occasional lag in heavily populated areas.
It is a pretty decent hack and slash, but it is very basic.
Next on my list after I mess with PDZ are:
Fable Jade Empire Crimson Skies Halo and Halo 2

I just took my original xbox to Blockbuster's Game Rush and got $85. Not bad really. I find there was practically nothing that interested me anymore on it. I like my PS2 much much better. Never thought I would say that.
At any rate, I agree the list of BC games is mostly a joke.

At any rate, I agree the list of BC games is mostly a joke. Wow, 85 bucks is really good. A few thoughts: The only people I know that have tried to burn the emulator to CD have not gotten it to work. I haven't tried myself. Halo also requires emulation IIRC, it is just that the emulator included on the HD already covers Halo 1/2. Autistic Angel, If you want a new Xbox, I wouldn't wait too long. You may find it increasingly hard to locate a core system (I know at my store we've been out for a week or two...all we have are bundles w/ Forza Motorsports).

MS is supposedly working on that one though...

The reason games like Barbie Horse Adventures are on the list is that they are similar enough to other games, that there was no real effort required to get it compatible. So they didn't really spend time getting it to work when they should have been working on Battlefront II, for example...

Fable also has some choppiness and occasional sound glitches, and crashed on me once. Crimson Skies works great, but displays some graphical artifacts near the top of the screen.

Would you all recommend I not trade my BF2 for the PS2 version, and just wait for it to be compatable? or will it be to long?

Yes, I am F****** kidding you. Man, you should have seen the look on your face. Priceless, just priceless. I look at BC this way: if they didn't want you to hold onto your old X-Box then they wouldn't have designed the 360 to spoon the old system so nicely.

I suspect many poor titles that get put on that list are not because they went out of their way to include them, instead, they're there because something they added to make a hot title compatable also made these compatable.
What or their respective companies threw tons of money at MS.

Don't know if there will be further improvements to NG but MS isn't scheduled to update backwards compatability again until March or later so it will be a while before there is a chance of anything being done.

I highly doubt they'll fix anything. To them, Ninja Gaiden is about 90% playable. Unfortunately, the lack of that 10% makes the whole 90% not worth playing.

I read a post from a MS rep somewhere that said Barbie Horse Adv is on the compat list because they didn't have to do anything to get it to work with the base emulator.

Playing Ninja Gaiden: Black on the original X-Box at the 'Normal' difficulty level, I can start the game and play all the way through the end of Chapter Nine without saving and without dying. I've done it more than once.
Ninja Gaiden: Black is unplayable on the X-Box 360. If the frequent and inconsistent slowdown in the first boss area doesn't kill me, the second boss area *always* requires multiple tries. It's sluggish, the controls are unresponsive, and it just isn't fun. I recently bought a brand-new X-Box for the specific purpose of ensuring that I'll be able to play this game for many years to come because the 360 just doesn't cut it.
