I pre-ordered from CompUSA for the $15 gift card, t-shirt, and headset.  The waiting is killing me I don't know how you guys do this pre-order thing.  As of right now CompUSA is not even saying they have shipped it yet.  ARGH!

Can't wait to get it!

I know pre-orders have been around forever.  I just never saw much use since I could just go to the store the day the game comes out and pick it up.

Do the games normally get to your house on the day of release?  If not then what is the point of pre-ordering?

Please report on performance once you crank it up.  I played the demo again last night and am really anxious to see how it turned out.  Could be fun if you can get a good group together.  These games are totally ruined for me when you have 60 screaming free-for-all teens running around with no purpose than to be the guy on earth with the most kills.  Snoooooooorrrrrrreeeeeee.  Wouldn't spend $5 for that.

Please report on your experience online in the above regard.  Thanks.

I doubt the performance will change compared to the demo.  Unless the demo was pre-gold status.

Some users are reporting that the final game is performing better than the demo.   It's a little unusual, but it wouldn't be the first time that a demo was not the final code used, but the easiest at hand to release to the public.

I just can't wait for lunch.  Gotta pick up my DVD preorder. smile

I am giving them today to ship the damn thing out.  If I have not received anything by the time I get home tonight I am cancelling.  Damn the pre-order gods.  Damn my cheap ass for trying to get the best deal.

I'm tempted to sell my copy.  I'm am very annoyed.  There are NO other gametypes.  You can only play conquest.  TDM, CTF, CO-OP....all gone.  I thought it was just the demo that only had Conquest as an available gametype.  If all you can play is conquest, why did they even put in a Gametype selector in the first place.

I can't believe EA on this one.  I thought it was weird that there wasn't a list of playable gametypes...I am so on the verge of returning this.

Well... there is a way to get CO-OP running with bots.

As for the other gametypes, I personally don't care. This game is designed around the idea of Conquest mode... I'd rather have the developers concentrate soley on that as opposed to thinning out their design focus on other gametypes.

Although, granted, TDM wouldn't be that hard to just toss in.

It woudn't have been that hard for them to include other game types especially considering their budget and staff. They could easily afford two full-time AI programmrs to work on nothing but the bots and at the same time, have a team working on the multiplayer, another team on the graphics, etc. So saying they should give up X and concentrate on Y doesn't make much sense considering there's one guy who's job is nothing but X, and there's already a team on Y.

Their supposed reason for giving up COOP (among other game types) is because not enough people played it. They looked at their servers and hardly anyone was playing COOP (probably because most of them were playing on LAN!) so they hacked it.

Conquest may be fun but it's going to get boring sooner or later. When you want to try something different you're going to have to rely on the mod community - the guys who don't get paid and work on their spare time adding in the things (like COOP) that the paid developers left out. The COOP you speak of is more of a hack and isn't officially supported. What we need are these things from the start and it shoudn't be up to the mod community to fix DICE's short comings. How many people would buy Battlefield 2 *JUST* for the game out the box? That's hard to justify 50 bucks on such a limited game, especially in terms of singleplayer.

Pig, I'm in agreement with you on that one, one of the reasons why I never do pre-orders unless it's at the store itself. You are driving home from work and happen to pass Best Buy (or eb games, etc.) and see a guy walking out with his copy of Battlefield 2 all excited and ready to play and you get home and find out not only have you not even got your game yet but it hasn't even SHIPPED YET!
I'd definitely cancel that and go to the store, maybe circuit city has some type of in-store special with the gift certifcate? Think I read something about that in the steals & deals section.

You know why they don't have other modes? So they can sell expansions.  BF1942 had 2 right? It is EA dudes, they will have BF2 Road to Game Modes expansion and Secret Modes of BF2 expansion. $39.99 each.

If EA has a bit of justice, they will release new modes in patches or community packs and not expansion. but they probably won't.

I bought it cause its good but I do not have any faith in EA.

Good point, they can use that as a sales pitch for their first expansion, new features include:
-COOP
-Singleplayer support on 32 and 64 player maps
-New Game Types: Kill the Enemy Team Captain, King of the Hill, and Capture the flag!
-New weapons, X, X, and X!
-New Maps!

Sounds like all the stuff Epic does in the Unreal Tournament series for absolutely free. Not only do all of the Unreal Tournament games come with plenty of game types from the start (including FULL bot support) but they also release a lot of bonus and community packs for free. Sure there's the "Editor's Choice DVD" but everything on there can be downloaded for free from Epic's site anyway.

Not a fan at all of EA Games, but BF2, even being the singleplayer fan I am, is hard to pass up.

Dreamshadow, if you decide to sell it, let me know.  I might be interested.  I am watching from the sidelines this week and if all sounds good, I will probably pick it up this weekend.  I might wait for the first sale somewhere and see if I can grab it for $40 instead of $50, but let me know if you are interested.

Well I got busy at work and then when I logged in to cancel my order they had already shipped it.  Scheduled to be here by Friday so I guess that will work.

Looks like it is demo practiced for me tonight and tomorrow.  But on Friday it is gaming goodness

Hey do you need to uninstall the DEMO before you install the full version?

I like it, but the interface sucks.  Every time I start it up it tells me I need to download the latest Nvidia patch from the option on the splash screen.  The problem?  I haven't seen the splash screen since the first time I launched it.  It goes straight to the main interface and forces me to sign in my profile.

Still, it's tons of fun.

I played the game for three hours last night and I thought it was fantastic. I spent majority of my time as a medic, healing / reviving teammates and squadmates in turns while picking up the strays.

Random thoughts on it:

- I really like how varied the kits felt this time around; that just because you belonged to a "support" category doesn't mean you don't pack serious fire power. I really like the iidea of medic, engineer, and ammo specialist can passively do their support duty just by having support kits out. Also you finally can actually gain points from healing or repairing.

- The squadron system is brilliant; it is incredibly gratifing have some sort of strategy (communicated through VOIP) within a squadron and watching everybody actually working with one another... then to die from an artillery strike ordered by your commander

- The maps (that I played one, which is probably around 4 or 5) were all nicely designed without any blatant imbalance between sides. Pretty much the same can be said with all the kits.

- Helicopters are extremely fun to fly. The air units can still dominate if it was in a hand of expert, but I don't think it was as bad as it was in BF:V since there are actually static SAM sites on some map.

Again, really fun game so far  biggrin

Did anyone have problems creating an online profile yesterday?  After filling in the information, I got a perpetual "Creating Profile" dialog.  I was able to ESC out of it, but never able to create a profile.

I figure(hope) the servers were just getting hammered, but I was wondering if anyone else had this problem.

I think I'm over my disappointment after I played with a squad in a street battle.  I'm still not happy about it...but I did have fun playing online.  I wish it weren't so hard to get on a ranked server. smile

In the demo it would do that. You should try going in and doing recover account now and see if it actually created it.

Don't start thanking them for the SAM sites yet, those missiles are the easiest thing to dodge in the game.

Seriously, if you just pull a normal turn you've dodged the missiles, and if that fails you just launch flares.

I want to know if anyone has had an experience where your teammate did not work with you as a squad, but played rogue or turned it into a deathmatch.  One experience like that has always ruined every online shooter I have ever played.  Can't stand it when some punk just wants to frag everything in site to up his stats making team play virtually impossible.

I upped the singleplayer bots from 16 to 32 and wow what a difference.  Freakin chaos.  I did like how my medic healed me several times before my respawn timer expired.  That was cool.  But boy, with 32 bots there was just so much going on everywhere.  I can't imagine 64.

I might just get the game for the singleplayer so that I can have all the maps to play on.

There is a Mods folder in your game directory list.  Open it and look for a file called aidefaults or something similar.  That folder might be under another folder under Mods, but it is in there.  Just dig around in there until you find it.  That is the file you need to open in Notepad and tweak.  The bottom third of the file flat out says use these lines of code to  1)increase the bots to 32 and 2) up the ai difficulty to expert.  So, I just removed the 'rem' letters from the beginning of those 3 or 4 lines and then added them to the 3-4 lines at the top that don't currently have 'rem' in front of them, saved the file, opened the game and wallah, there you go.  If I was at home right now I would paste the actual file here since is not very big, but I am at work.  If this explanation does not help, then I will post again when I get home this evening.

By the way after you do this and start the game it will still say a 16 size map, but if you stay at your spawn point and count your guys who pop in you will see that there are tons more than before.  16 on just your side.

All right...after a couple of days of play...I retract my statement about wanting to sell the game.  As soon as I got in a squad and we played on once of the 64 player city maps (forgot the name...vagely L shaped, with the US starting at the bottom and the MEC starting on the right) all my other concerns about the game evaporated as my squad began leapfrogging from corner to corner.  I trailed behind the assaults, ever dutiful engineer that I was and deployed vehicle mines when one of them saw a tank coming, or cleared mines for another squads mech support vehicle (which carried their support and medic).  It was a tense battle, but so much fun that I forgot what I disliked about the game.  After the fight my jaw just hit the floor.

Favorite moment of that match:  Discovering that I could repair bridges by just driving up to them.  Our squad was pinned down on the two bridges on the upper right of that map, and I was in an abrams.  I was the only engineer on the map, and as I drove up, the bridge just reassembled itself.  After the "Holy #$%@" response from my team, we charged and finished off the last two spawns with the support from two other squads and a well timed arty shot by the cmdr.  Sent shivers down my spine as the only enemy counterattack was shut down.

ARGH!!!!!!!!!

I am walking out the door this morning to head to work.  As soon as I open the front door the FedEx guy is walking to the door.

I thank him and quickly open the box to find my DVD copy of BF2.  Then is sets in.  I have to go to work this morning

At least it is just a half day but it was horrible to have to leave the game on the kitchen table and force myself to leave.  I must of thought of every possible excuse in the world on the way in.

1:00 p.m. can't get here fast enough!
