Big Fatties: Barbeque Competition?

I hear the NPC commentary can get quite saucy.

Official demo is next week. People who preordered get in early.

I'm looking forward to Battlefield: Bad Company, but definitely want to try the demo first.

The trailers and movies I've seen make my head asplode and I can't wait.

Yeah, from the videos I've seen I'm *very* hopeful about this game's prospects for not sucking... hopefully it lives up to those expectations.

I didn't pre-order though... I want a demo first.

Got it.  Can we play with friends in this demo as opposed to the beta?

Oh yeah... I love destructible terrain, so nice to be in a tank and able to run THROUGH a wooden fence instead of being hung up on it or stopped... also blowing up trees... houses... small mammals...

Liking the sound, would probably be better if I had something besides just the TV speakers hooked up right now.

Yeah, the party system is now active.

EduardoX, how is it silly to give people who have already paid for it an extra week before people who didn't? Seems silly to think it's silly.

Because it's just a demo, and not the full game. A demo is a marketing tool to reach those unsold on it, not those that have already paid for what the demo is intended to sell. It's their game and they can do what they want, but I agree with EddieX, it does seem a bit silly.

Are preorder bonuses silly?  They get people to preorder, money in pocket for the publisher, without the buyer looking at a review.  Playing the game early is a nice bonus, and it hardly costs anything extra for the developer/publisher.

Preorder bonuses are silly when said bonus is a demo.

plus you can just put 5 bucks down, get the demo and then move the 5 bucks to another game after you grab the demo.  I may grab BC, but it'll be for SP only.  Heck, my year long XBL sub just expired and I haven't even gotten around to renewing it yet as I'm busy having a blast playing Age of Conan on a PvE server with the Wanterers.

Anyone have any idea of how close to the PC battelfield iterations this game is? Those tend to turn into hackfests and vehiclegrabs and the unaltered infantery doenst stand a chance...

but, if they actually give infantry a reason for being there, I'm all in!

And the demo will be available to everyone so it still serves as that marketing tool.  There are other bonuses of preordering as well, not the least of which is that you have more time to max your rank in the demo which unlocks a gun for the full game.

Ok, ok. smile

Hark I saw you on my Live list, playing this a lot last night. Tell us more about the gameplay - what's it's like? Will the full game be co-op vs A.I. (with a story mode, etc) or is it all multiplayer?

Yeah really. Make with the impressions.

Compare it to COD4.

It releases on the day I leave for a business trip, but that weekend I'll have the house to myself so I can see myself playing nothing but this game...

It's like a combination of the older BF games, and Frontlines imo.

Good balance between classes, vehicles are useful and powerful, but have counters that are very effective.

So far I'm very stoked.  Most of my complaints from the beta were fixed.  Hit detection seems pretty spot on, though not quite as visceral as COD4.  While the overall controls are a bit less responsive and intuitive than COD4, it's still very responsive and you can switch to any weapon or gadget remarkably fast.  There is now an input buffer so for example if you have the healing syringe you can switch to it, inject yourself and back to gun in mere seconds.  You can reload while sprinting.  Everything just feels good to me.  Only negatives I have so far are that as can be expected your average pick-up team is pretty lame and doesn't even attempt to attack or defend the targets.

I also have a complaint about the sniper rifles.  The default sniper rifle doesn't quite kill in one shot unless you head shot.  This would be fine if it didn't take 2-3 full seconds to chamber a second round.  Then I spent an unlock token on the higher damage sniper rifle.  While it did in fact do more damage, it still takes 2 shots and it loads even slower.  Not a whole lot of point to that upgrade imo.  I should have gone the other route and grabbed the faster shooting silenced one.

There's a lot to learn in the game and it's a fairly steep curve.  I can see it being very frustrating to those that don't catch on to games quite as quickly.  If you stick with it though I think the game has a ton of potential especially for team work.

I also love knifing someone and it keeps track of it and you keep their dogtags for good slywink

As Jarrod mentions there is a single player mission.  Full game is supposed to have a fairly long campaign.

I hate single player games so I won't be able to comment much on it.

I went gold so I don't have to wait until level 25 to get the 5 extra weapons.  I'm silly like that apparently.

There are 5 weapons you can unlock prior to the games release btw.  If you're planning on playing it's worth looking into it at the game's official site.  One is for preordering, one for signing up for the newsletter, one for ranking to max in the demo, don't recall where the other two are.

Not sure if the preorder and demo one will be available later.  My guess is no.  Quite frankly most of the unlockable weapons are very minor differences. None are strictly better.
