That's because everyone loves warning.  Him and Kevin Grey are 2 parts of the Holy Trinity of Gaming.  The third has yet to be revealed.

I am *so* putting that on my business card.

XBOX 360 #1: November 2006 - February 2007

XBOX 360 #2: March 2007 - February 2008

I must say though that my tech support girl was most helpful and I was off the phone in about 10 minutes.

Looks like the break I felt like I needed is now here whether I want it to be or not.

Funny thing is, I'm not too upset....

Though I am gonna try the towel trick.

It came today.  Gotta say I'm pretty impressed this time through.

Looks like it's the same box so I know it has been taken care of.

Looks like I shall cry foul and unleash my dogs of war as soon as this evening.

Total time without my 360:

13 days including the day it broke.

9 total business days.

That's solid man. Solid.

Looks like the 360 has died again. This time it's not red rings...the DVD drive won't spin up.

They want 100.00 to repair it.

May just go get a Jasper.

Yeah. I just got an email from MS last night with the update that the other one (a Falcon) has been repaired is now about to be shipped back.

As for the Jasper having better graphics, that may not be your imagination. Didn't they change or improve the video card in it?

In my case, I had a $100 gift card from Target and thus I was able to get a jasper unit for $99. Fact is, I love my Rock Band 2 and i was jonesin' to play, so I went for it.

MS has acknowledged that the earlier units had the serious RROD flaw, and they claim it's fixed in the Jasper models. I'm hoping they are telling the truth smile My 'fanboy' purchase was really just a combo of a tempting price, impatience, and hopes for a more solid model that will last. And $99 to always have a backup isn't too bad IMO.

Well, I own a PS3 and if the PS3 could offer 1/10 of the online experience that 360 does, I may not have bought another 360. But it doesn't so here I am.

Not to mention I have probably 300.00 in unfinished games on the system...

Actually, I think it does offer much more than a tenth of the 360 experience.  But, I also think somehow getting your 360 fixed is a good idea considering there's good games for it, all the current DLC you have on it.  But buying a new system for $200 is kind of a bad idea.  It's pretty much buying into the BS the MS hardware shoveling your way.

Yeah, I was being a bit tough on the PS3. But the online experience is nowhere near as seemless or simple as the 360, but we're treading old ground here.

As I've said before, I love the 360. I figure 100.00 to fix a twice refurbed 360 is a bit steep when for twice that I can get a new one that's expected to be far more reliable.  Obviously, if I had my druthers, I wouldn't have to spend any money, but that's the breaks I guess.

My arcade came with a mem card.

So did mine, though it was buried in the bottom of the box, below the cardboard that holds the console.

My two 360's each had different issues, one with the console overheating, the other with the HD freezing occasionally.  It's in no way acceptable for the 360 to have such a high failure rate, but personally, I really think I got my money's worth.  One 360 was a launch unit, the other a few months younger, and both have been, quite literally, played to death (FFXI, anyone?)

I bought an Arcade unit and a 60GB HD on Cyber Monday, saving $50, and switch-o, swap-o, I'm back in business.  After the dust settled, I ended up with two working 360's and a third unit - if I ever get around to formatting the HD - that plays DVD's, Arcade games, and games DL'ed to the HD.  The console on that one only overheated when playing video games from the disk.

I consider myself exceedingly lucky, and though there are people out there with (whole) launch units that are working perfectly, the size of that population does seem to be suddenly shrinking - just as the 3 year warranty expires, of course.

I grabbed a Jasper.

No memory card, the 256mb memory is internal and selectable when you have a HD in there.  No headset, buy one used for cheap.

There are no HD cables, but the new Arcades have an HDMI port and you can get a cable from Monoprice for like, $6.

After buying my Arcade, I was able to go through Microsoft's "Memory Upgrade" program to get a refurb 20gig HD and 3 months of Xbox Live for $30.  Here's a link.  I can't guarantee it will work, because the program was really for arcade units that couldn't run the NXE because of memory issues (and the new 256mb onboard fixes that).

Yes, this is correct- the new arcade models come with onboard memory instead of memory cards.  Strangely enough that makes them less appealing to me- I'm strongly considering getting a second 360 so I can use the netflix stuff in my living so I want a memory card so I can easily transfer my profile between 360s.
