Spotted this at GAF:

Ever wonder why PSP users get to have a harddrive and DS users can't?  Well, check this site out:

MAX Media Player for DS

A four gigabyte harddrive attachment for the DS?!  Weirdness!  Able to watch videos, play MP3s, and "activate executable programs"?  Emulation perhaps . . .?

It's supposed to be available sometime in "late March."  Seems pretty expensive with the English price of £129, whiiiich comes out to around the price of a PSP, so it's not that cost-efficient in the least.  But I thought it was pretty cool that it existed.

Also the PSP's "harddrive" is internal but wheras with the DS you have a huge thing sticking out of the back.  And that 129 pounds is well over the price of my PSP (90 pounds) not mention I would still have to buy a DS on top of that.

The hard drive doesn't stick out of the back that bad. But yeah, pretty expensive.

I thought this thread was about the DS going hi-def. 1080i on a three inch screen.

Did they ever come out with that thing which would let you play the PSP on a TV?

yea i'm not sure, i've never played the PSP. I've played the DS though and it kind of seems like the GameCube portable, but with worse graphics, and worse games.

so i guess what the point of getting ethier of them!

It's weird.  At least with the PSP hard drive you could put bunches 'o movies on there to play on the nice screen.  Because, you know, the games mostly suck. (ziiiinnnnggg!)

What would you put on the DS hard drive?  Sure there's music and homebrew but after you play Bionic Commando for the umpteenth time what's left?  Watching movies on the PSP screen is about as small as I can reasonably go.

He he, knew I was going to get mocked for that one. In actuality, I just tried the DS for the first time over the weekend. I actually found the touch screen kind of cool - the Metroid Prime: First Hunt demo felt really cool to play. Mario Kart was fun as well, but I expected that. But yeah, the screens are teeny-tiny.

I've only seen a movie played on the PSP, and it was beeee-yootiful. Really don't know what the games are like. Liberty City Stories sounds great.

I just couldn't resist the smart ass moron comment. Read it with the Comic Book Guy voice and it's funny.

Your damning Nintendo's business model by saying that!! They've been betting you'll play the same game over and over for 10 years and I've heard they are making money doing it!

Couldn't resist!  biggrin

How much would it cost to get a PSP and 4 gigs of space?

I recently bought a DS and will definitely be keeping an eye on something like this.  Could be a nifty addition.

Probably alot cheaper than a DS and a HD, since the HD is supposedly 2 times the amount of a PSP alone.

I thought it was $224.00 for the HD.  (£129)  The DS is $130.00.  Total = $354.00

PSP is about $250.00 right?  That's with what, 32megs?  4 gigs has got to cost at least $200.00 for about $450.00.

I only recently bought my DS.  I might have considered the PSP if it was just a little cheaper.  (Although I was scared off by hear-say of bad load times too)  If this little DS harddrive works out than I'll be all the happier with my choice in handhelds.

Oh and yeah... UK£ 129 = 258.797032 Canadian dollars

Yes I'd have to say if I were to get a new hand-held(I have a GBA SP) I would probably get a DS, I just read that Age of Empires is coming out for it, and that is too sweet. And with this HD coming out, its looking pretty good. But then again I know a few people who have DS's and I could probably go play theirs anytime.

The only reason I'd get a PSP is because it has all those extras, and GTA. I really want to play that GTA game. And I dont yet own a portable DVD player, but a UMD one would be nice. Plus when I get my PS3, hopefully Sony will have taken full advantage of PSP to PS3 connectivity. Then again extras = more money = bad.

They are both to expensive for how much I'd play them, so I'm fine with my Gameboy.
