Wonder what it'd take for me to be Exec Editor for EGM? I imagine they'll have an opening soon....

Did they delete the byline on the EGM review or was the author's name omitted from the start? -Autistic Angel

Oh, weird: I just hit Refresh and it popped up. It really just said "By...." before. This reminds me of the 9.2 IGN gave Master of Orion 3. Of course, the difference is that MOO3 was a 4X strategy game whose miserable design failings could masquerade as sophistication. It was an incomprehensible mess, but if you didn't want to seem dumb you might pretend to really love it. This is a *shooter.* The basic elements of being a shooter don't work. It's only a few hours long. Seriously, now: how could a reviewer possibly miss the mark this badly? -Autistic Angel

Used the back of the box and previous previews as the base for the review 3.) Screenshots rather than playing the game. I'm not saying those things happened in this case, but I've certainly seen it happen on other sites.

The last Aliens game that I enjoyed was back in 99 or early 2000 on the PC.

I'm not in a good mind to review this. it's got the atmosphere down, but there's truly a missed opportunity here. I count the first two movies as some of my favorite sci-fi films of all time. I wanted a game like this since watching Aliens in theater. now, I don't know how we could have ended up with this. given the pedigree of the developer, I really wonder where this went wrong.

Yeah I'm really confused here. I love the whole Brothers in Arms series from Gearbox and the Borderlands series, and also the Section 8 games from Timegate Studios. Sigh

So, why was the game such a piece of junk? If it can be believed, this Reddit might explain a few things: http://www.reddit.com/r/LV426/comments/18ewf4/a_lot_of_you_are_rightfully_upset_at_the_final/Make of it what you will. But if you trust the source, it makes a lot of sense.

I was really excited about this game, especially after hearing Randy talk about the demo build last year. From his description of their development team, he made it sound like they were all big fans of the franchise. What a disaster the game turned out to be. Why didn't their senior leadership call a timeout, stop the marketing, and tell fans "sorry, the game will be ready when it's ready"? This is a PR mess for them.

With a game this bad it has to hurt Gearbox in the near future. It takes them from a studio you can trust because of Borderlands 1 and 2, to a studio that is a "wait and see" type of studio.

Keeping silent on it is the worst thing that they can do. We haven't heard word one from them at all. Glad I didn't pre-order this steaming pile and went the Gamefly route instead...
This kinda stuff I why I'm wary of the next gen consoles.

Well, I am at the point where I get to and I haven't encountered any major issues... Haven't seen any AI issues really... At least not more than I have seen on any other game... I did have a couple of times where the AI got stuck or ran past me, but again, nothing major.. I am a little concerned about some story aspects, but I hope that they get cleared up... I do have some things that do bother me, but these go back to the Aliens movie too....

If you would like to be as furious as I am, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyebULYg_vc&feature=youtu.beThere is absolutely ZERO in this demo that is real. Nothing they showed was in any way real. The level layouts may be the same, but absolutely nothing else is. The animation, the "sophisticated AI", the art - nothing.

Did you read Destructor's link above? If true, it explains a lot. I read it and I think I understand what may have happened. The thing is, while I didn't purchase the game, I'm betting a lot of people did. And 60 bucks is quite a bit of money to the average family. For any company to not only release a product in such a poor unfinished state, but also lie and falsify the quality of said product in the year preceding it's launch is reprehensible. And all this is by a company that made Borderlands, two of my favorite games of the last year. I love those games and that makes me hate this even more.

Yeah, like when Warcraft Adventures got canned, someone a Blizzard said "it sucks that we sank so much time and money into this failed project, but we just can't hurt our reputation by releasing it." With this game, someone said "it sucks that we sank so much time and money into this failed project, but if we release it anyhow at full price we'll recoup a lot of our losses on those foolish trusting fans."

With DNF, I get Gearbox releasing that. If they didn't, they'd lose the IP. With this, though, it has to be purely money, like you said. One has to wonder the amount of money that would have been involved in Sega's breach of contract suit.

Bad news(Well that's a turn Switch...fuck! ) Players Reporting Issues With Aliens: CM Deleting SavesIt's been a bad week for Gearbox and Sega. Aliens: Colonial Marines immediately became a laughingstock when it released on Tuesday, with critics and gamers alike reaming the title for its obvious quality issues. From the looks of Gearbox's message board, one of those issues may involve deleted game saves on Xbox 360.
Apparently, this bug is triggered when the Xbox 360's cache is cleared. Several players loaded up the game after doing this, only to find that their game saves were nowhere to be found. Others are claiming that the same happened to them without any cache activity.

I am wondering if all the bad stuff is on consoles (I am on PC)... While I have seen some glitches and crashes, it's nothing I haven't seen before and nothing game breaking for me.. I do think this is more of a $30-$40 title and am pretty sure that's about what I paid with the various coupons and deals gig had going. I "think" I'm almost to the end.. I'm at the point where .. I have had some fun and playing on soldier level has been hard at times, but really only saw a few graphical glitches, and most were after you killed something, they jumped around a little... Maybe about 4-5 times, I saw brain dead AI, where they either stopped or walked past me, but again, nothing major... Story wise, I am waiting on the endgame to judge... Still haven't tried co-op or other multiplayer, so maybe they have issues...

Co-op and multiplayer (multiplayer especially) are the best parts of the game. It's the single player campaign that everyone (except for that laughable EGM 'wrote the review from previews and trailers that other sites posted' ''''''review'''''') absolutely hates.
And the console versions are at best ports of the PC version. And very bad ones, too.
