Game announced based on George RR Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire' - http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/64768Sounds like it will be a Civ or maybe Total War type game? Not sure how you transfer over what was awesome in the book into a strategy game but I'm still excited.

This is promising. Fantasy Flight Games have already shown that it's possible to make a truly excellent strategy game in Westeros with A Game of Thrones: The Boardgame after all.

Great, first a book and now a game with no ending? No thanks!

This is promising. Fantasy Flight Games have already shown that it's possible to make a truly excellent strategy game in Westeros with A Game of Thrones: The Boardgame after all. FFG also released Battles of Westeros last month, which by all accounts is selling very well. I can see a RTS or TBS working quite well for the license, but if I had my choice I'd rather it be an RPG along the lines of Dragon Age.

There isn't really much room for an epic RPG within the confines of the story, unless you set the game far back in time.

It doesn't necessarily need to be epic, I just want a RPG where I can explore the world of Westeros while evolving my character.

The games description makes it sound like those very very old strategy games which I simply loved (Like..eh, Gorgons Birthright I think it was called)
I really hope this pans out to be as awesome as I dream about!

Will this game come out:
- Before the next book? - Before GRR Martin dies? - Before the 2012 Apocalypse?

For such a character-driven story, RTS seems like a somewhat strange choice. A disappointing one as well, at least IMO.

Yeah, from Cyanide...Sorry, but they have to be one of the incompetent big developer houses out there, so I have no real hope from this sadly.

Really? Didn't Cyanide make that real-time Bloodbowl-like game a few years ago, Chaos League? Apart from the fact that it used Starforce I don't recall any serious problems with the game. Not sure if I've played any of their others though.

They've made quite a few bloodbowl games, also the latest one, which I find a mess in the presentation and how it works. They also exploded a lot of peoples graphics cards, due to faulty code in their engine.
Anyway s - of course they could be lucky, have new people and so on - I'm just not very optimistic about it :-)

Well the timing couldn't be better....the TV series has me hooked on Ice and Fire again...now i wanna re-read it....so a game this summer is probably going to be a guaranteed impulse buy.

Uh ok, maybe I'm missing something, but isn't this other game for which the thread is named after also by Cyanide?

Green Man gaming has it listed for the 29th, and says it uses Steam. I'll keep an eye on it to see if they discount it and have any codes you can use too.

The loads of dragons in the trailer indicates to me this is set during the earlier times when the Tarygaran family unified Westeros under their rule. I can't tell if it is an RTS or what.

Each lasting anywhere from 50-100 years. That will be interesting to see how the game models seasons.

I was intrigued by this post at Qt3:
"All right, there is some crazy shit in this game. You can capture enemy spies and assassins and imprison them in your feudal home. Then your opponent has to pay a ransom to you to free them. Or you can set them free on your own, to add points to the peace bar. Units that you hire, in your own freaking castle, may not actually be loyal to you. Because an opponent can infiltrate your feudal home with a spy, which then makes the next unit that you hire a double agent. If you don't marry your Great Lord quickly enough, he'll start producing Bastards, which are actual units on the map that your foes can use against you, if they find them. Or you can pay gold to recognize a bastard as your true heir. Having an alliance with a town lets you see stuff in its sight radius... unless it's actually a false alliance, in which case things might secretly still be hidden from you. "

I bought the game and played it a bit - The graphics are nothing special, but solid - i dislike the voiceovers though - My assassin says "I'm so sorry" whenever he murders someone, but says it like he's actually laughing which annoyes me (This is something from the books, I won't say anything more about it due to spoilers)
The gameplay itself is...interesting- Basically, you have to conquer town by gaining alliances with them, so you can have money, so you can have big armies when the time for war comes. The thing is, everything you do, everything you own, could be a total lie, because you might be infiltrated. Even a spy you recruit from your impregnable home town could be working for the enemy, if he is sneaky enough.
Of course, there are ways to counter this, but man - it gets complex fast.
Not yet sure how much gameplay there is in the campaign, but its a game that screams for a boardgame conversion since human players would be wonderful in it. Or play the multiplayer of course.
More when I get the time to play it!
