3D Dot Game Heroes, a new PS3 RPG

From Software (makers of King's Field, Enchanted Arms, and Demon's Souls, among many others) has revealed their next game, and it looks a whole lot like a LEGO version of Dragon Quest as an action-RPG.  That's quite a leap from Demon's Souls, but it looks very intriguing nonetheless.  Gametrailers has a thread about it with some scans on page 3.

I read at the GameFAQs forum that, according to the game's story, the kingdom started out as 2D sprites, but the king changed everything to 3D in order to attract more people to the kingdom

Yeah, I saw this, and it looks awesome.  I hope it turns out all right beyond the cool design aesthetic because I would really enjoy this.

Sony has confirmed that the game is coming to North America

I just got the e-mail from Atlus that they are the ones publishing the game in North America.  It's coming May 11 (although Gamestop's page says 5/3 for some reason) for $39.99   The official website is here, but there's not much at the moment.

Whoa From did Enchanted Arms?  I had no idea.  I really enjoyed it despite the weak story.  And how can the OP not mention Chromehounds?

I hope these guys make a lot of money from DS.  I'd like to see a little bit better production value in their future releases.

Am I the only one who isn't at all interested in the trailers they've shown for this? They've gone out of their way to make it look like a Zelda clone. If I wanted to play Zelda, I'd play Zelda.

Truth in advertising, I guess.  Every preview and review I've read indicates it is pretty much exactly a Zelda clone.

Is this going to be one of those impossible-to-find games if I don't buy it soon after release?  I don't want to miss this, but I also don't have time to play it right now.

Atlus games seem to have much better distribution now than they used to and 3D Dot Game Heroes seems to be a reasonably high profile release for them so I'm guessing it won't be hard to find later.

Played through the first temple, and I couldn't love it more.  Just great. 

My only wish is that they'd released a guide with it.  The one on GameFAQs is very good (they seem to have upgraded what they can do in a FAQ significantly), but it still doesn't let me put a bookmark in the remind me where I was.

yeah - got as far as you did. it's extremely cute, but i can easily see it getting challenging as well - very cool! ...


edit: now in the second dungeon, & found the from cave on my way (& enjoyed all the demon's souls references ). something suggested on neogaf that i've done is switch to 'camera b' in the options - between that & installing the game, it all feels much better now...

I'm actually a little worried about the difficulty ramping up too much.  Right now I really like the balance, but I can see it getting harder, too.

the install's 1220 mb, & cuts the load times by half at least - makes things smoother...

edit: somewhere in the depths of the 3rd dungeon, & am finding the challenge to be just about zelda level. very impressed with the dungeon designs so far (& the over-world, for that matter) - it's pretty obvious that the game wasn't just tossed together, & that these guys know their stuff ...

Got this coming from GameFly and I'm very excited to give it a try. I've been jonesing for some old school Zelda action. Darksiders have been scratching that itch recently but this looks like it will be even better.
