http://kotaku.com/5335673/elite-360-dropping-in-price-rip-pro-model

Seen that today on a couple sites. Basically a Meijer catalog for September I believe that has a 'new lower price' picture of $299 for an Elite.

That will certainly help out those with dying 20 GB models that are running short on space.

As it stands, wouldn't a new Pro model with it's 3x larger HD do that too? I'm wondering if this is going to result in a lower Pro price as well. Kudo's to MS if they lower both models, if only because it shows they're willing to take the fight to Big N.

the article mentions the Pro is supposed to be going away, so it might mean temporarily lower Pro prices.  if it's announced at Gamescon I wonder who will announce a price cut first, Sony or MS.

Doh...well I guess I should have actually browsed to that article link.  icon_confused  Kudos to MS again for finally dealing with their SKU Splosion and sweetening the deal for the consumer. With 2/3rds the HD capacity and a $100 higher price, if Sony doesn't price cut now they're beyond stupid and a lot of other colorful adjectives.

What we really need is a hard drive price drop.

Agreed - the fact that they can now offer a SKU w/120GB for the price of the 60GB model, the HD kits really should pice drop. Of course such common logic rarely applies when it comes to game console peripherals/components.  Roll Eyes

Not going to happen.

Also, the arcade is already at $200 that's not going to drop any further.

Agreed. I would use the games on demand feature, but my 20 GB hardrive is full, and I don't want to spend $150 to upgrade.

Seems to me like they are making a hybrid between the current pro and elite. For instance, no more hdmi cable included. No word on hd size

Not in the UK, it seems.

I have an old Xenon refurbed unit, plus two Xenons also way past guarantees in storage, so no new Jasper for me. Unless of course I get 3X RRoD'ed. What are the odds of that happening slywink?

well, why not?everyone else is queuing up to get more money of us...bottom line is though,i have bought 2 360s that because of past RRoDs means i am now covered until 2012,so they wont be getting anymore money from a sale of a console from me

it is a dumb move though, with SONY about to announce a price cut

yeah they were(in the same house i mean)..but nothing else 'broke'...just the 360s,first one went, rang my sister to bring her(my 2nd one)round and it was about 2hrs later when she came round with it...but like i said,i am glad it happened,as her machine had 2006 on the back and my machine had 2007...now they both have 2009,and i was without the 360 for a week...so all in all, extra 3 years cover(for e74 and RRoD) for a week without the 360(that's how i like to look at it anyway)..had to play on the.......PS3 !! icon_confused

this one i have got now,is still okay(been 3 months)..i keep on thinking its gonna go when i get a freeze in Battlefield 43(sounds like it when i have to power down)...i haven't even given my sister her 360 back,LOL...oh and i got a month free xbox live for each machine as well...rather of had some points, but still

Yeah, saw that this morning.  Fair enough.  I think it's shit that they're removing the five games from the Arcade bundle, but the price drop on the Elite is pretty nice.

not sure what to think really,30 quid added to the Arcade price(and the 5 arcade games taken out)..and 30 taken off the Elite Price(but no cables)...so no gain,no loss really,LOL

I want the gimp version.  frown

I have an extra 20gb hard drive after upgrading mine, and I want to give a friend a 360 and a Rock Band setup as a housewarming present, so I just need a 360 arcade.  But no crazy deals running right now.

Now if only they would drop the price on the god-damned 120gb HD.

I wasted a good 30min. of my very scarce gaming time last night going and deleting demos and such, so I had enough room to add the AC/DC track pack that I bought.

The new $300 360 Elite comes without an HDMI cable or component cables. This sounds like an INCREASE in price over the Pro to me. While an HDMI cable is cheap, I would still have to buy the 360 component cable to have optical audio out. This all seems odd to me.

Fair point. I have been reluctant to go that route since there's enough oddness with HDMI/handshaking connecting HDMI devices directly to your TV. It just seems odd to me to discontinue the Pro, price the Elite the same as the Pro, and then take some things out of the Elite box and call it a "price drop". I had to pay $300 for a 360 with a hard drive before, and I still have to pay $300 for a 360 with a hard drive now (once the Pros are gone) and now I don't get the component cables? This is a drop?!

It's pretty ridiculous. I'm presuming the existing elites (with cords) are also getting the price drop, but you may be getting a system manufactured MUCH earlier if you do that.
