In OXM this month, there's a brief article on some of the available faceplates that are going to be available for the new console.

The end of the article, in typical OXM bottom smooching fashion, states:  'Better start saving now- especially since you're going to want more than one of these babies!'

As for me, if I go next gen and end up with a 360, there's only one faceplace that even looks remotely interesting and it's the 'hot rod' one.  Of course, I've seen exactly five of them in all.

Price point will be a major factor. I think I read somewhere that they're going to be 19.99 a pop. If that's the case, I'll never spend a nickel on em.  A good marketing ploy for a retailer though would be- spend 200.00 on games and get a free faceplate of your choice...

Anyone here gonna buy 'more than one of these babies'?

I'd pay $10 for a faceplate that'd make the front of the 360 look like the front of the 8-bit NES.

How is Microsoft going to keep the faceplate prices at $20?  Won't there end up being a bazillion unlicensed goofy websites selling them for less--like cell phone faceplates?

I doubt I'll buy one unless it comes in flat black or silver & no other graphics.

I will never get one, but it isn't aimed at me.  It is aimed at people who buy different faceplates for their cell phones, and have cool car rims.

Flat black for me, too. And only $9.99 at most.

It comes with one?  I'm happy.  I can't see the thing behind the glass anyway.

I'd consider a black or a silver one so it looks a little more like the rest of all the junk under my TV.  But not likely unless it is a gift or under $10.

No, I don't think so. It's not the console I'll be staring at, when I game.

While I do have cool car rims, I'm not the target market for this either slywink

I haven't seen a single one that looks any better than what came with the system.

I always like the smooth original look of most multimedia devices.  I have no interest in purchasing a new face plate.  If one came with a game or something I MAY use it, but probably not even then.  Who am I trying to impress with my console that's hidden away in the entertainment shelf area?

I'd buy the faceplate that won the design contest at MajorNelson.com in a second:

Many of the runner-up designs were excellent. Check them out:

I'm happy enough with the one it comes with.

If I had my system in a shelf I might spring for silver to match everything else but that's just because I have issues.

The ones being pushed are UGLY.  Maybe a huge market for the >15 crowd with no ride to pimp.

So Microsoft's hopping on the gimmick bandwagon with Nintendo, eh?

I could care less what colour my gaming system/faceplate is - it's about the games, not the new Gameboy Deluxe Colour Pocket Ultra Mini DX Super 2.

You couldn't care less.  If you could care less then you should, to the point that you can no longer care.  At which point you couldn't care less.

*sigh*
Quote
The phrase I could care less has been repeatedly condemned in recent years for its illogic: if you could care less, surely that means that you do care to an extent. But it's not meant to be taken literally. I could care less is sarcastic. When it is spoken, the stress is "I could CARE LESS," not the way one would stress a serious declaration. It's the same as saying "I really give a damn," when you don't, or "Nice move!" when someone makes a clumsy mistake--yes, they mean the opposite of what they say, but they're deliberate. The sarcasm allows you to express more disdain than simply saying "I couldn't care less." In addition, the phrase, with "couldn't" or with "could," is expressing indifference, so a strict interpretation is even less justified.

It's funny that people find the first part of this quote more interesting than the remainder which is where I made my point.

For the record, I could care less and I will as soon as I forget all about this faceplate nonsence.

If they wanted to come out with something truly for gamers, they would do something like make a faceplate that would accept your original artwork, like the PGP does for PSP.  I know a faceplate and a PGP are not the same thing but there must be a way to do something similar.

....not that it matters though - I'll be waiting for PS3
