Yowza! There's a new update to the backwards compatibility list!
Lots of games, not a lot to get excited about, though. I'm personally pleased to see Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb and Demon Stone on there.
Probably some sports games to get excited about, too.

NFL 2k5!
Too bad already owning All-Pro takes a little luster off having that title now available to play... I wonder if the homemade roster updates people have been creating will work.

With the exception of Wayne Gretzky Hockey 3/Hockey League Simulator 2 on the PC, NHL Hitz Pro was the BEST, most atmospheric and utterly enjoyable hockey game I have ever owned. I just wish I still had a copy so I could play it again.

There is a store in Flemington with a ginormous old xbox game collection. If I can find it on the cheap I'll pick it up and send it to you for Christmas. I have kept mine tucked away awaiting this news.

I know nothing of the NHL Hitz series. Is this more entertaining than the current 2K7/8 titles, Star? Is this worth picking up today when I look for my copies of NFL 2K5 and Demonstone?

If you do find it at that store please pick it up for me if it's $20 or less. I will send you the money. Or better yet I'll have Devil send you the money for me since he needs to learn the difference between a good and a bad hockey game.

More entertaining without a doubt. Atmosphere. Atmosphere. Atmosphere. The game literally drips with atmosphere and fun. By far the best hockey game to ever nail the crowd cheers and boos absolutely perfect. And the announcers get so revved up during the game, especially when the action heats up, that it makes you want to do the wave or jump up and cheer or something. Their commentary never gets old and is often funny as hell. The crowd during a game has to be heard to be believed. You know you are in for a wild ride when the players enter the ice during warmups with Zombie Nations Kernkraft 400 playing! It's funny because playing this game you don't ever concern yourself with nitpicky things as you do in 2K8 or 08. Why? Because the game is so damn fun!!! Now I'm yearning to get this game again. Lockdown! Get to that store in Flemington today!!!

Shifty - I'll check tomorrow at lunch. If they have it, I bet it's cheaper than 19 bucks. NHL Hits Pro has got to be the funnest multiplayer game I have ever played. My brother, my nephews, and I play with Player-Lock on the same team and just piss ourselves laughing as we rip through games one after the other. We even rename our team after ourselves and our friends; and listening to the announcer say our names as we do things is just flippin' awesome!
Deno - Wading through OpSports is a nightmare. I need you to walk me through everything I need to do to get accurate rosters onto my 360 for ESPN NFL2k5 please. I'm guessing if anyone knows how to do this, it's probably you.

Keep in mind that the MS games were Xbox native so they would likely be MORE entrenched in the Nvidia instruction sets; this would make it much more difficult than working with a multiplatform game.
They had to do teh Haloz for launch though; anything less would be stupid.

It wouldn't be so bad if there were other games in the pipeline that were similar to some of the MS games that haven't been made BC. You could argue that Dirt fills the gap for Rallisport Challenge 2, but I don't see anything on the horizon like Midtown Madness 3 or Oddworld: Strangers Wrath. I can't begin to tell you how dissapointed my daughter is that she can no longer drive around Paris in her pink Eldorado.

And what about Voodoo Vince, huh? That was published by Microsoft and still isn't on the list.
I won't even mention Beyond Good & Evil again as a multiplatform game that dearly deserves to be on there.

while i'm glad to see a bunch of new BC titles, i still wish they'd go back and fix some of the earlier games that have problems. i've always heard that Mercenaries is a great game and would love to check it out, but the i've heard the initial BC patch for that game has some serious issues...

I forgot to mention in my other post that no BC for MK:Shaolin Monks is also a big dissapointment. Again, I don't see any games in the X360 pipeline that feature similar gameplay. It's looking more and more like I'm going to have to pick up the PS2 version do get some co-op fighting goodness.

While not nearly the same as Shaolin Monks, MK: Armageddon is compatible and has the adventure mode.

Fantastic if it does, but I'm almost certain it doesn't. And from what I've read, Armageddon doesn't have anything even close to a 1/2 decent story while Shaolin Monk's is fairly decent.

For those of you who have played both NFL2k5 and All-Pro 2k8, what do you think? 2k8 is definately in the cheap seats now (only $20), but I sure enjoyed 2k5 and I've heard middling things about 2k8. I hung onto 2k5 hoping backwards compatibility would eventually come to fruition, but I do tend to gravitate towards shiny, new things.
Note that the lack of a franchise mode and current players/teams aren't really an issue for me, which I know is two of the primary issues with 2k8. I just play seasons, and assembling my own team appeals to me.

2K8 plays an excellent game of football, but it doesn't quite have the polish of 2K5. It feels like the first game of a new franchise in a way, little hiccups here and there, nothing major. But on the field it feels great apart from the new kicking mechanic which is silly. Unfortunately, 2K5 edges out 2K8 as the better game simply because of the franchise, etc options but it is really hard to go back to after playing next gen games (graphically speaking).
2K8 is only about $10 at Target now and $20 or less everywhere else. I say grab it, especially because you're not excited about actual NFL teams or franchise modes. It really is a spectacular playing game of football. And assembling your own team of all time greats really is a lot of fun. It's pretty much 2k5 with much better graphics and a new skin.

Is it possible to automate the kicking mechanic? For example, can I just have the kicker do his thing without input? I've heard from some that the kicking is a game-breaker in 2k8, because it's impossible to reliably score a field goal even from relatively short range. Of course, others seem to say it's as easy as pie.

Whether it's the old two-trigger free throw system in their old basketball games or the football kicking, I don't understand why 2Ksports messes with stupid control schemes for relatively minor game components!
I'm not able to check if you can turn off user controlled kicking... anyone else? Even if you can, it's a shame that you might have to. It's not terrible if you can get the hang of it (I always need to move the stick sooner than I'd expect) but it's still too easy to screw up a field goal left or right.

But non legends will struggle past 35 yards even if you do it right manually. But that is what the game is all about. Choosing where to invest your legends, and where not too. I think the kicking is just hard enough to make you consider investing in a kicker. In my opinion the on-field gameplay is better than Madden and well worth $20.
