I saw an Xbox One at Target last night and thought about buying it, but I'm holding off for now...giving them a chance to work out the kinks while I finish up my 360 backlog. I still have a lot of GTAV, SC:Blacklist, and AC3 to the play before jumping into something new...

Spoke with someone at a party last night who got his kids an Xbone for Christmas.  He's coming off a Wii and had nothing else to compare it with graphically, but said he was blown away by the graphics (his face looked like John Lithgow seeing all the stars inside the monolith as he described it).

When it came down to why the Xbone over the PS4, the answer seemed to boil down to one thing: Zoo Tycoon.  That game alone indicated to him that the Xbone is geared for children while the PS4 is not.  Of course, he also seemed to be under the impression that the animals were going to stick their heads out of the television to be fed by his kids (I'm not kidding), so I think he may have taken the trailer a little too literally.

He seemed to think there were more kids games coming for the Xbone than the PS4, but looking over lists, I'm not sure where he got that, so I really do think the entirety of his decision came down to Zoo Tycoon.

Oh, he also thought Titanfall looked amazing, so I can't really fault him there.

Anyway, that's my anecdotal evidence for today.

I also kind of feel that the Xbone will probably end up being the more kid-friendly system, though as you say there's not really much in the pipeline to support that theory.  I think having the Kinect bundled makes it very likely there will be nifty Kinect kid games to come, while I don't have much hope the non-bundled PS4 camera will ever get a lot of attention.

I agree that the Kinect makes it seem more likely (though hopefully they'll be better than a lot of the Kinect options for the 360).

apparently Gamestop is already selling 'refurbished' PS4s in a bundle that come with Killzone, Ghosts, an extra controller and 1 year of PS+ for $609.95.  I'm guessing they're returns more than actual refurbs.

My local Best Buy had 2 waist high pyramid stacks of Xb1's this week, but no ps4s.  Since I already have 1 next gen console, I'm more interested in keeping an eye out for the next WiiU price cut so I can pick one one up for my kids (and me).  It seems to be slowly building up a good game library aimed towards kids/family.

Yesterday my local Walmart had a sign at the front saying they had both systems in stock.  You had to inquire at the electronics department to get one, though, so I have no idea how many they had.  Self-restraint: success.  I did not walk out of the store with either.

Interesting anecdotal stories. I find it hard to believe that the PS4 is THAT popular. Sony's production must really be constrained.

PS4 availability isn't supposed to stabilize until February/March. At that point anyone should be able to walk into a store and buy one. Sony has been pretty clear about this for a few months.

Because you can't find them due to low supply.  I thought I read somewhere here because Sony had a broad launch that included more countries.   Having to spread the supply around a lot more.

Some good advice I've seen floating around:  If you happen to be saving the reveal of your console for Christmas morning, open it early just to get all the patching and installation crap out of the way so you don't have to deal with it on the big day.

That's how I got to open my PS4 early talked the wife into it saying it has day one patches to install.

Re low supply: Well yeah, obviously, the question is there a lack of supply due to larger demand? Your comment also leads me to ask, didn't Sony dominate in all markets except the US for the last-gen consoles? This is anecdotal again, but my Twitter is mostly brits (because of soccer), and when gaming consoles are mentioned, last-gen or this one, it's always Sony. Always got the impression the 360 was huge in the US while the PS3 had Europe and Japan. No?

Sony has launched in more countries, and it would also appear that they've generally provided more stock to countries that the XB1 has also launched in with the exception of the US and possibly UK.   I saw some numbers recently posted that had Spain at something like 134k PS4s v. 28k XB1s sold for instance.

The 3DS was just overpriced at the start because Nintendo was greedy. Coming off the success of the Wii and DS they thought people would pay a premium for their system even though affordable was a cornerstone of those systems success. They quickly saw the error or their ways, lowered the price and it started selling.

If 2DS sales are lumped together in the 3DS bucket, that also means there's a very accessible $125 device contributing to the numbers.
