Updating now.....going pretty fast smile

44% done

Oh and they had 4 Day One consoles available cause of canceled preorders....and I got the last one!  Woo!

Also got a green Xbox One winter hat, a dead rising 3 id badge thing to hang around my neck, a couple pins and a Xbox one knapsack. All free! Kudos to Best Buy, they know how to treat people right....

And it's all done downloading the update. Took about 5 minutes. It was 500MB or so.

well, it'll probably be 10 hours or so before my XB1 gets here, and thanks to idiots not knowing how to read a calendar (or outright lying about when certain events were actually happening, right now it could go either way), my weekend of XB1 goodness may have just been shot to hell.

yeah, it is still due today.  it's people coming to town for the holidays earlier than expected that are being a pain in my ass.  I'm looking forward to sharing that pain with the person who is partially responsible for this mix up next week.

I'm picking mine up at 9:30am but unfortunately I have to come back to work.  Head meets wall So I won't have it up and running until late tonight probably.

Also I've heard my first personal bricked console story - co-worker's friend had the green screen of death right out of the box.  icon_cry

Just be glad it isn't the dread disc eating faulty bluray drive error that's popping up. Which actually doesn't eat discs so much as sometimes scratch the top.

No word on scale of the issue, but it's probably the same as any launch day electronics.

that's the DL speed of the update?  10kbps?  that's messed up.  I'd heard that MS has been the target of some ddos attacks, but I didn't think they'd be that effective.

Nah, it was my home internet speeds for about 30 minutes there.    It has recovered.

My remote connection to work was UNUSABLE.   It was like I stepped back to the 80s for a while there.

well that's a relief.  there was a pretty big DDOS attack against MS yesterday.  I'd say it was due to XB1 and the day 1 patch, but they hit everything.  we were reduced to passing notes back and forth on post-its

Microsoft's DNS server servers are apparently failing to respond to requests, returning "no record" errors. This means that you can't access sites like Hotmail.com, MSN.com, and Live.com.  It's unknown how widespread this outage is at this time. Currently msn.com, live.com, hotmail.com, and outlook.com, azure.com, and microsoft.com are all known to be impacted. It's very probable that all Microsoft domains are currently unavailable.

If Anonymous is going to go political and fancy themselves as champions of the commoner the way they have the past 2 years, they need to figure out how to navigate public relations.

How do you win over supporters to your cause?   NOT by taking down a service that a bunch of commoners want to use on the night they want to use it.

oh yeah, but then what cause do they support except anarchy caused where it does the most harm?  I'm not at all surprised it was them and that it was aimed at MS during the XB1 launch.  every internet-savvy user is aware of the whole day 1 patch requirement to use the system, so if they had been able to take them out for an extended period, you could imagine what the backlash against MS would have been, even though it would not have been their fault.

So did anyone watch the Spike thing last night and see the guy who is just short of 1 million gamerscore? I was really surprised he was basically just some normal guy outside of being a bit too enthusiastic about achievements. What I don't understand is how he has time to eat or bathe, much less work. He even said he has a girlfriend. He had to buy a PAL 360 and a Japanese 360 because apparently it's not even mathematically possible with just US games.

What's funny is that a typo/grammar error is what made that possible.   It should have been 'he's still waiting (like I am) for his Bone to arrive'.    Of course I guess that only changes who is getting the Bone.  Tongue
