yeah, not sure how they say that DR3 isn't a technical showpiece when it's clear the game couldn't be made on 360/PS3.  yeah, the framerate lags in places.  if a little rough edges drops this out of the buy category, then wait for DR4.  If I were going XB1 this gen, I'd be picking this up.  it looks fun enough.

This is from the IGN review
Quote
Notice that I didnít say it was pretty. Dead Rising 3 runs at an upscaled 720p resolution, it doesnít have amazing textures outside of its cinematics, and it suffers from regular framerate stutters and occasional walls that pop in after youíve driven into them. It doesnít look a whole lot better than what youíve probably played on Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.

So I guess he's saying it doesn't look that much better than a 360 game, and yeah it's cool that a ton of zombies are on screen, but if you're looking to show off the power of the xbone this isn't the title to do it with. Still he gives it an 8.4, which is good in my book.

Put a Roughrider on the cover, and you have a guaranteed 1million sold. (As there are just over one million people living in Sask.)

Sounds like DR3 is not the prettiest game in the world but it is loads of fun. I'll take fun over graphics any day.

I watched some of the Ryse Gamespot stream and it actually looked really fun. I can see where it might get old after awhile moving from area to area clearing bad guys, but some of the executions you could do were just sick. May not be a purchase for me, but I will rent the hell out of it.

I'm surprised no-one talks about Zoo Tycoon? Thats actually a game I would really love to try out. I know its Kinect only, but I can live with that, if its a good tycoon/sim game. It would be fun with the kids as well, but I love the game type so I'd be sure to play it on my own as well.

Thats actually a game I would think could surprise a lot of people from what I've seen so far. Polygon seems to love it as well! http://www.polygon.com/2013/11/18/5113046/zoo-tycoon-review

I saw Gamespot playing it today and the Kinect stuff is still embargoed so I infer from that that you don't need Kincet to play since they couldn't talk about it.  Of course all Xboners will have Kinect so we are covered there.

Why you shouldn't buy a new console in one image.  Of course I think we all know the best games are not going to come out for the systems for a few years and that there will probably be a price drop or two before they do but buying a new console on launch day is about the fun of getting a new toy, being part of the hype, etc.

Anyway this might make those of us not buying a new system feel a bit better!

Didn't sony do the same thing though? It stands to reason that in a season with two titans releasing in the same two-week period that both would play their hands close to the chest.

The reason I don't buy this argument is that the only reason you would NOT buy one is to save money, correct? So let's say you give up buying a PS4 now and wait 2 years. What can you expect to save? Based on past consoles, you're looking at a price drop of maybe $100 max.

So you've saved $100 by waiting 730 days. Comes out to about 14 cents a day.

Now tell me - even if the peak number of good games is not out - who can't find 14 cents worth of fun with a console? $1.00 a week?

Not sure what I'm looking at there?

Is the left scale the number of exclusives?

It is showing the number of highly rated games released each of those years

"18 of the 100 best Xbox 360 games were released in 2010, according to Metacritic. 19 of of the best 100 PS3 games were released the same year. 2009 was a great year too, with 15 and 18 of the best Xbox and PS3 games, respectively; 2011 had an identically strong showing.
This, you might say, was the golden era of the last console generation, and it started four years after the generation began. This was the era of Uncharted 2, of Red Dead Redemption, of Mass Effect 2, of Skyrim, of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. This is the era when the Call of Duty series peaked; the same could be said of Assassinís Creed. This was when indie games finally broke through ó it was when we first played Braid and Limbo, for example. (Not reflected in the data: the early, series-defining hits, such as Gears of War and GTA 4, were by this time available for $20 at virtually any Gamestop. A truly great time to become a gamer.)
This peak is reflected somewhat in console pricing and sales, too: In September 2008, the Xbox 60GB came down to $300; in 2009 it fell to $250; by 2010, you could buy a 4GB Xbox 360 Slim for $200, or a decked-out 250GB model for $300. By 2009, you could buy a PlayStation 3 for $300. It wasnít until 2011 that the PS3, which by default included a large hard drive, fell to $250. 2010 and 2011 were the top sales years for the Xbox and PS3, respectively, which is kind of crazy ó imagine making that prediction in 2006. (Both consoles are now available for $200 or less.)"

So more it is kind of showing what we all know; that once the hardware is out there a few years better games come out for it.

My vote is now to wait until later.  Nothing is really getting me day 1 excited from what I am reading.  I also just bought an Nvidia GTX 770 so I feel like my PC is pretty solid game wise.  One aspect would be that we currently do not have a Blu Ray player but almost all movies watched in my house anymore are On Demand.

interesting way to gauge quality titles.  did they make one with all scores above 80% to compare?  also, I'd love to see the cross-platform games listed separate from exclusives.

Well, these days it's also about being able to play MP with your friends, if that is one of the things you are buying the console for.
