Guys, this is a tired argument.  Clearly some people find it of value like some people find remote play of value.  It's going to depend your specific circumstances.

Size of the Xbox doesn't bother me. It will be replacing the spot currently occupied by my Blu-Ray player which is much wider. Personally I'd rather have the external power brick for heat, easier to replace, etc.

I think I may need to upgrade my entertainment center.  with everything there I don't think I'll have room for a PS4, even a vertical one since the space between the shelves isn't tall enough.

I love the justification that the XB1 is not much of an improvement in terms of multimedia over the PS4 because YOU won't use the features.

I am not saying that, if you use those features, great. Just saying there are easier ways to do things (like checking scores), and that picture in picture has been around for years, and is rarely used because it isn't as useful as people thought it would be. At this point we are arguing feature lists, we'll see what people think of it once they have used it for awhile.

I'll probably have to remove one of the devices in my setup. Right now I've got my TV, receiver, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, "cable box" (not really, but it's the closest name I could think of at the top of my head) and Blu-Ray player. I think I'm going to have to remove the 360 in order to get space for the PS4, mostly because it's the console I use the least out of the three I already have, and because the rechargeable batteries are (predictably) broken. I'll keep it in case I stumble upon something I simply must play on that platform though.

Word of warning to those of you planning to play Assassin's Creed 4 on the PS4: Give it a couple of days first. Ubisoft just confirmed that the retail version of the game runs at 900p, but that it will be upgraded to 1080p in a title update available "shortly after release". Still no word on the resolution of the Xbox One version, which is kind of suspicious.

Hasn't the PS3 of all things been the number one device used to stream Netflix for a while?

I've been using the 360 with Kinect.  so much easier to talk to it than touch those dirty, dirty buttons.

those buttons are only dirty because you are using them.  remember, put the cheetos down before you play.  :barf:

I seriously can't wait to play remote play NBA2k whilst laying in bed watching TV.

(assuming NBA2k remote play works ok)

Maybe, depends on whether they were running on devkits and had that patch.

It's so weird to see performance patches for console games.

Almost certainly. If 1080p was playable enough for reviewers to get to use it, it would have been available for players now as well.

On the plus side, that means the graphics are likely to be more improved from the previous gen than the graphics comparisons so far give it credit for.

well, then I hope that they address this in reviews after the patch in comparison videos.

I also want them to compare PS4@900p vs PS4@1080p.  this would clear up a lot of confusion and misconception around the whole issue.

I have seen that claim in a few of the PS4 reviews, actually. That's why I'm so puzzled by the whole thing.

Yeah, I don't agree with that either. This isn't 1985 anymore - I'm pretty sure even my toothbrush can stream Netflix now.

Xbox One review embargoes end throughout next week.

Quote
It's PS4 day, but what about the Xbox One? Don't worry. We'll be getting to it. We'll have a review of Microsoft's console live on Kotaku at 9pm PT on Tuesday, November 19 (that's midnight on Tuesday for those of us on the east coast). The system launches on Friday, the 22nd.

Sony allowed us to review their console and launch games all at the same time. Microsoft is doing things a little differently, staggering review embargoes throughout next week. Look for Dead Rising 3 and Crimson Dragon reviews as soon as Monday and Ryse on Thursday.

Not looking forward to those Knack w. Gladiator Sandals Ryse reviews.  icon_razz

Hoping for the best for DR3, but I'm scared it's going to get dinged for framerate issues. We'll see. Crimson Dragon I don't care.

just did some grocery shopping at the local Walmart, and they finally had an Xbox One on display near the front of the electronics department, inside a glass case with a video monitor running commercials.  Looked for a PS4 display and saw they had a bunch of DS4s plus a cardboard Ps4 box further back, no unit behind glass or even a video monitor doing advertisements for it.  I'm guessing this store won't be one of the ones with demo kiosks, they even got rid of their ones for the previous gen at some point recently; they used to have one for 360, Wii U, Ps3 and Vita.

That probably wasn't an actual Xbox One. They've been showing off the front half of the console, but I don't think there's anything inside. The demos you're seeing are merely video being played by... something. I have no idea.

this is what they had:

I agree, it was probably just a dvd/blu ray showing a repeated program on the screen.

for the Ps4, take away the monitor, the glass case, the pictures on the wall, leave the countertop and change the green XB1 banner to a blue Ps4 one, and add in some Ps3 Slim Uncharted 3 bundles in the case in place of the 360s.  it was seriously lackluster, not sure why they didn't have any posters up or anything.

I just wanted to say : congrats to Sony for A GIANT LEAP ahead. They've done a bang-up job of overcoming the PS3 launch.

Also, congrats to everyone who was able to get ahold of a PS4 that wants one. I am one of those people who do, but will be down the road and it'll be "exclusives" driven. biggrin

On the other hand, I think my pup isn't going to see Christmas, and my 9yr old is taking it pretty hard. It really puts things in perspective - thankfully I had paid off the XB1 preorder earlier this year (trade-ins and some tax money) - otherwise I'd be sticking with the PC upgrades which were a necessity (long story- not getting into it).

Enjoy your weekend with your new consoles guys - wish I could be there with you.

Yeah, I think it always shows your full name on your own machine, but won't in your "feed" or to your friends.  I had (have) the same confusion about it.

do you have a wall mount for those monitors, or did you just sit them side by side?  been debating what to do with mine, I have a 21 inch and a 24 inch, with the 21 inch set off to the side for quick browsing while I play on the other one.

That's why I asked also because it's showing my real name on my screen but in the privacy setting I have it set not to.  So I don't know if it just shows up that way just on my console?  My PSN name is Buckeye Shane, can anyone who is friends with me tell me if that is what is showing up on their screens?
