Any of you guys pre-order from Amazon? I did my pre-order back in June and the order status still says 'not yet shipped'. My paranoia is starting to make me nervous that I will not get my launch day unit in time.

Damn this new console excitement! crybaby

I did and my status is the same, but I've never missed anything from Amazon and I don't expect a major console launch to be the first.

they probably won't ship until later this afternoon, or even tomorrow if you are close enough to the warehouse that has your PS4.

same here.  also ordered back in June, the 21st to be exact.  I'm pretty close to them and I think there may even be a distro center down the street.  too bad they couldn't just let me pick it up myself.

Frankly, some times they don't update the shipping until the morning of the day it's supposed to arrive even though it went out before that point.

Also, it's possible Amazon may be sending it next day.

Don't worry. Amazon will come through!

(Now whether the UPS guy steals it on the way, that's something different.   icon_twisted)

Thanks guys. Good to know that we are all still in a waiting pattern.

In the mean time, in anticipation of the onslaught of new PS4 units hitting Sony's update servers, I'm not taking any chances with slow download access of the day one patch, which is nearly 1 GB in size. I recommend downloading it and copying it to a USB drive now so that you don't have to wait during setup. Instructions here:

Soo, take all those singleplayer CoD comparisons and throw them out the window.

Edit: Beaten. Tongue

The CoD: Ghosts clusterfuck gets even stranger, and receives some kind of partial resolution that gets us back to step one.

In other words: Activision will release a day 1 patch for CoD: Ghosts on PS4 that increases the resolution in single player from 720p to 1080p. They blame a "configuration issue".

If you think this sounds professional of them, think again. Configuration issue that drops the resolution down to a fraction of its intended size, and nobody in QA notices? Makes you wonder if they even let QA near the game near the end. For a publisher that sells one of the biggest franchises in gaming, Activision seems extremely reluctant to spend any kind of money to keep its quality up.

Well here's the deal before PS4 fans slit their wrists and Xbox fans start popping the champagne.

All this ultimately says is:

1. Reviewers who hyped better visuals on the PS4 due to resolution differences were full of shit.

2. There is some weirdness going on since it appears the PS4 is having framerate issues that the Xbone doesn't, and now they don't have 1080p to blame for it.

3. Reviewers who could not tell a difference were correct - but this also means the disparity may in fact be *larger* than first thought.

End of the day it doesn't change the fact PS4 runs at a higher resolution and probably looks a little better in side by sides. It does give some journalists (and a lot of armchair quarterback internet posters) a healthy serving of crow. The real test will be how it runs framerate wise post 1080p patch.

So as a reviewer of COD Ghosts who went to the review event and played on both One and PS4, I'd like to note one thing- this day one patch is for the retail version of the game- the physical disk. I did not see a physical disk in the unit I was playing on and it is entirely possible that the version I played on was a version post-gold master. I'm not trying to defend anyone, just pointing out that the assumptions being made about what reviewers saw up to this point are based off of incomplete data. I'd say it's very likely that what we saw included the patch for the commercial disk.

That said, I had no real way to test actual resolution or framerate on any of the platforms. All I have is the anecdotal evidence I saw when I looked at them individually- the PS4 version looked a little better to me. I should also note that this was when the situation was first coming to light.

I don't blame the reviewers in this - even for the sake of argument they were playing a 720 build, if someone tells you you're playing 1080 then you'll probably assume that's what you're seeing. So if you're indeed full of crap, it's based on faulty assumptions that Activision bears responsibility for.

I think the moral of this story is - CoD was the worst yardstick of console comparison in history. smile

It's more complicated as multiplayer apparently was in 1080p.  So it's hard to know where people were doing their comparisons etc.

So 2 people who got their ps4s today via Taco Bell have reported that their machines are already bricked. One guy is from GAF, another is live streaming attempts to fix it on twitch (although both are getting return boxes from Sony).

This is why we do console launches, right? The excitement! The luck of the draw!
