PS4 will not support 3D Bluray at launch

I'll say what I said when the Xbone came out with this news.    I don't watch 3D blurays so it doesn't affect me.

That is odd, cause a Sony executive recently (after the news came out that the Xbone didn't) said that it did. I don't watch 3d Blurays either though, so either way, I don't care.

Maybe it's being patched in day 1?

I'm realizing my biggest issue with the PS4 is the lack of an IR feed.  My Universal Remote works with the PS3 through one of those IR blasters.  There's no guarantee it'll work with the 4, and even if it did, I'm still using the PS3 (though I suppose I can just control it with the DS3 since I'll only be gaming there now).

Has anyone heard anything about getting Universal Remotes to work with the PS4?

I have the Harmony Ultimate, and that one should probably work with the PS4, if not at once then at least soon.

I watch 3D Blu-rays so  I hope this gets patched in soon. Especially since my launch PS3 decided to die on me yesterday. Sucks because I was about an hour away from beating Arkam Asylum for the first time and I really wanted to finish it before the PS4 came out.

Still see no Madden review even though mine has shipped.  Tongue

Looks like Purge was right about Knack! Disappointing as this was supposed to be Mark Cerny's game wasn't it? People have built him up into some kind of Godlike figure but if his game is a flop then just how smart is he really?

Looks like we are trending to having the usual new system launch syndrome happening:    Most of the launch titles are mediocre.   I expect similar next week with Xbone.

I'm excited to try Resogun, but it does quite amuse me that one of the most killer launch apps for the 8th Console Generation is.... a side scroller shoot-em-up.  smile

Depends on how you define launch title, I guess. There's several relaunches that are getting universal praise. Most titles seem to be considered "good" or "great", with very little "mediocre". Unless you consider 8 to be mediocre.

I've only ordered Killzone, AC4, and Fifa, which are all getting good reviews, so I feel pretty good about the launch titles.

Gamers are so funny.  You have people who think that no game ever should get a 10/10.  Then, if anything is 7 or below, it is the worst game ever.  That really leaves a 8-9 scale for a game to be considered good.  I stopped paying attention to reviews long ago.  Much better to read impressions on places like here and NeoGAF.

Yeah, but reviews are all we have right now.

Speaking of which, you should all keep in mind that the reviews we're seeing right now are based on playtime at Sony review event. The various sites have only had a few hours with the console at their own offices, not nearly enough to try these things in normal conditions. As a result, the reviews should all be taken with a grain of salt right now, whether the scores are good or bad. Some of the more serious sites are holding their review until Friday or so.

I don't disagree that 8-8.5 is considered good to great.    The issue (normally) is that I have limited funds for games and so I make sure the ones I purchase are outstanding (8.5-10).

I'm making an exception (as I always do) for system launches because you have to have something to play on the darn things.

looked like I was right to wait on Knack.  frown  Was hoping it would be a surprise hit.  oh well, the 6 games I picked up yesterday should be more than enough to keep me company yesterday.  2 FPS with decent sp campaigns but long MP potential, two open world games with lots of stuff to do and find, a sports title and a racer.

yeah, I think I'm set for a while.  if not, there's always the other backlogs

Gametrailers gives Killzone a 8.8, Contrast a 8.5, Resogun a 8.1 and Knack a 5.0.....

Too bad about Knack, but the rest of the lineup looks great!

Lego Marvel. it's not true open world as there are still mission areas separate, but the greater world is all open.  figured it would be a good kids game

Apparently there's some bombshells to be dropped at the PS4 livestream event happening on the 14th, or in the near future.

Most likely any announcements are aimed directly at offsetting the admittedly subpar state of PS4 exclusive AAA titles.

That said, anyone without a decent gaming PC is going to be pretty much set regardless of what system they get.

You made my point, though.  I already knew what you've posted here when I made my post and it only further goes to prove that the whole business of reviews needs to be reviewed itself. slywink

We follow an industry where these companies control the message and give or deny access to these things based on their own terms.  If reviews were worth anything, they wouldn't be written under conditions where the people writing them attend an event for a couple hours, playing with the controllers of the property right there to try to direct the review.  I know people want this info early, but I'd rather wait for a good review then get what we tend to get earlier.

There was word about CoD being 720p in single player (and 1080p in multi) even on PS4 an hour or two ago, but I didn't catch the final verdict there. At least there's been some pretty convincing evidence that the sites that have been posting comparison vids between CoD on the two platforms these last two days have mostly been using 720p for both platforms. Whether that is because their recording equipment was set up wrong or if the game is built that way was harder to tell, but some people started claiming that they could confirm the reduced resolution.

It's really inexcusable. CoD: Ghosts is one of the (if not the) absolutely worst looking games on the new consoles, Xbox One and PS4 both, yet it still has both performance and resolution problems. People really should boycott that franchise. They aren't even hiding the fact that they're regurgitating the same game every year, with minimal effort, any more.

Even worse: If what I said above turns out to be true, Infinity Ward has actually been lying to customers who were in no position to confirm or deny these lies. They confirmed that the game would run at native 1080p on PS4.

I wasn't going to buy that game anyway (that franchise lost me years ago, though I loved Modern Warfare 1 at the time), but stuff like this makes me furious. We need more honesty in the games industry, not less.

personally I find user impressions better than reviews.  well, most user impressions.  I'd never trust one from Caine.

PS4 will not support 3D Bluray at launch

I'll say what I said when the Xbone came out with this news.    I don't watch 3D blurays so it doesn't affect me.
I do watch them, but it doesn't affect me either... I suspect that those who watch 3D blu-ray are like me and already have a 3D blu-ray player..

on top of that, how many people are going to use this as their primary blu-ray player?  I have the space so it would be better to have the cheaper and easier to find PS3 do the movie playing.  at least, this has been my under lying concern with using game systems as movie machines since my first PS3 died with a movie inside. I would have rather wanted a cheaper standalone player to die instead.

I am all kinds of excited to turn my next-gen console into my new blu-ray player.  I'm sick of having my PS3 leaf blower running when I try to watch something with the volume down because the kids are asleep.
