I just deposited my PS4 + games cash, so I'm good to go. Next project is to get my PS3 moved over to the living room so that my kids can assume 'ownership' of the system. How does that work in terms of IDs for them? Can I create IDs for them as children, or should they just piggyback on my id?

Thursday night on my ride home from work I plan to swing by my local Gamestop just to see what the line looks like. With a midnight launch I'm assuming people will be lined up hours and hours ahead of time.

Xbox One snap function showcased.

Rumormill said this wasn't working. MS must be really good at squishing bugs.

OMG this remote play looks so good.

I can now attempt the Costanza trifecta, only instead of TV, I can substitute the Vita with remote play.

The one negative to remote play is that right now it's limited to 30FPS, so you'll see a frame rate reduction on a bunch of titles.  But for most stuff it seems like reasonable tradeoff while using the feature.

The snap feature is one major reason I think MS's philosophy for the Xbone is sound, and will be borne out in the long run. The fact is, none of us use our electronics for just one function these days. Everybody's a multi-tasker. They've positioned the Xbox to capitalize on all the major technology trends - cloud sync across devices, multitasking, media streaming, digital distribution, social integration, etc. I think people are going to really buy into that experience - particularly as time goes on and these features become more and more commonplace across all of our devices.

The rumour going is that running your PS4 through the Xbox One will ALSO drop the FPS to 30. slywink

Snap just doesn't appeal to me. I don't want or need it. There just seems to be too many performance trade offs for this feature. I'd rather have Dead Rising 3 run locked at 30fps, than being able to "snap" live TV into the upper right corner of the screen. The XB1 reserves 10% of its GPU for these kind of things, along with the whole 3 OS thing. I'd rather it use that performance elsewhere.

If the PS4 had something similar I wouldn't use it either. I have an iPad for that kind of stuff. Who knows though, it may be a huge thing and make the XB1 a hit. Guess we will see....

The extra dedicated resources are at least making a difference, though. From what I've read in the last 24 hours, the Xbone is indeed snappier (wakka wakka) at task switching than the PS4.

Largely depends on the tasks. I don't watch a movie while reading a book for example. In fact watching movies, playing games, and reading are generally very single threaded tasks for me. I do check twitter during downtime during games, but I don't need that on the screen all the time.

Basically I can see the snap feature being interesting for a lot of the other activity beyond gaming, but when I game I just want the game on the screen. I literally cannot think of a single thing I want on there blocking any part of the game UI.

I think the feature would've been more impressive earlier in time, but right now I have like 5 different ways to get to the internet in arms reach. I'm at a loss trying to think of a scenario in which I'd rather Xbone snap instead of using a tablet/phone/laptop.

Activity feed while waiting for someone to come online and you feel like "fartin' around" until they show up.

Perhaps you're not engaged in a AAA title, but instead your kid is playing the next version of Fruit Ninja.

Or, maybe (and this is available at launch) - you actually want to look something relevant up:

#1 - I can just play a game on my console while I wait, same as this generation

#2 - if my kid is playing the Xbone, I can't see myself trying to do something split screen on the same TV instead of just using my iPhone/iPad/laptop/maincomputer/portableconsole/PS4remoteplay or kicking them off the console.

#3 - why wouldn't I just look up game hints/videos with my iPhone/iPad/laptop and keep my TV giving me all the screen size I paid for?

I'm hoping for a DDoS snap app where you can trace your opponents connection and FSCK their intertubez.

I'll call it the FUHark app.

I'll definitely use the snap feature. When PC gaming I'm usually also watching a TV show or movie. I'd love the ability to Skype with my buddies while gaming. Doubt I'll ever use the internet lookup, but hey, it's there if I ever want to. The biggest use will be keeping an eye on basketball and football games while playing. That's huge for me with college basketball season coming up.

I don't like saying "I don't want extra features because I'll never use them." That's never turned out to be true for me when it comes to consumer electronics.

Xbone pre-order reinstated  confused

What made you reinstate?  Also where did you find a place to order this late?

I think he means he's going to stalk someone buying one next friday.

No, there is a selling/trading thread on GAF and often people are giving up their preorders they planned on canceling at cost for other members.  Just swap out the shipping info and bam.

As to why, I just kind of wanted it. I'll probably just get Dead Rising for now.

I didn't want it, couldn't find a TV worth a shit without it, never use it.

Can't agree with this more. I hate my Samsung "Smart" TV. Next time I buy a TV I will go out of my way to avoid these so called features.

On topic: I may swing by Target Friday morning looking for a PS4. I believe someone here said Target won't be doing a midnight opening, so maybe I can just walk in and get one.

PS4 will not support 3D Bluray at launch

I'll say what I said when the Xbone came out with this news.    I don't watch 3D blurays so it doesn't affect me.

That is odd, cause a Sony executive recently (after the news came out that the Xbone didn't) said that it did. I don't watch 3d Blurays either though, so either way, I don't care.
