I want to hear the negative as well as the positive, I just wish the people giving the negative news weren't being such smartassy pricks when delivering it.  A smiley face doesn't make you not an asshole fwiw.  Seems at GT only the non-gaming topics have the 'don't be an ass' rule.

I actually think it works out better that the fanboi wars are encapsulated into this thread.   If we can keep them out of the other threads, it limits the spread.

I appears that the reason why my NBA2K on the PS4 is showing a Dec 24th date is because it's in short supply.

Damn, sounds like they screwed up their final cert submission.  And here I was holding back on that one to keep it as my Christmas list game, hopefully they come through before then.

As for the Dead Rising 3 performance thing, it's definitely disappointing but I wonder how final the build they were testing is?  I imagine there is a day 1 patch coming for all of these games and since DR3's performance optimization has been kind of a late-game thing I'm holding out hope they do more before launch day arrives.

Microsoft has to realize that is their big seller at this point and they need to stick some ninja specialists on it to lock that shit down.

I was considering going console on this one, but with the PC version being half the price of the console version I don't see any point, even with trade in credit possibilities.

Hard to tell, but I can't imagine the developers or publisher allowing Digital Foundry to bring its recording equipment anywhere near the game if they didn't feel that it was representative. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. They've apparently made great strides with the framerate since the last time the game was shown.

Totally non-scientific, but I've watched several very recent videos of the game being shown off and I didn't notice any frame rate drops even with a TON of zombies on the screen.    And by TON, I mean my jaw dropped at the number of zombies enough such that I started wondering about a real zombie apocalypse and why all of these people, when they turned, would have been in the streets rather than in their office buildings, homes, cars, etc.

Yeah, I've watched quite a bit of footage as well and have to agree with you. Then again, I suspect most of the videos shown have been running at 23-24 fps, which means that we wouldn't be able to tell when it's actually running at 30 anyway.

The first two updated reviews I've seen of COD: Ghosts both say that the framerate is more stable on the Xbox One than the PS4. If true (which it probably is), that means Infinity Ward managed to fuck up both next-gen versions of the game. Jesus. Why do people still buy their games when Activision doesn't seem to want to spend a penny on development beyond the bare minimum?

Yeah, I've definitely considered that since it is already getting big deals on the cheaper PC version, but I've found that for whatever reason I just don't tend to play the LEGO games that I have bought on PC very much so it would likely be a waste anyway.  I think they are just casual enough that I need to be laid back on my couch or something.  smile

TiLT, I agree with your post - and I don't want you (or anyone) to hold back news, articles, etc ... and I do hold back as well for the same reasons.

It's the digs, the snide remarks - it breeds defensive communication.

I have no problems hearing about a 20FPS DR3 - if it's classy and not done in a method clearly aimed across another posters bow (as it were).

So I'd like to dump a bit of a longer-term impression of the DS4 - I've decided I don't like it as much as the 360 controller for one particular reason (not just the offset sticks) - the taper on the MS design (which is seen in the XB1 as well, but I've not had extended gameplay with it to comment) suits my hands better.

/----\ XB
|----| DS4

The less tapered handle means my thumbs feel like they're reaching more, but still not as bad as the DS3.

The triggers on the XB allow you to more naturally hit the bumpers with the same fingers, and not "accidentally". That design really seems to flow well (for my hands). I've always found, on the SA,DS3 etc that for me to be effective on the L1,L2 R1,R2 I had to have both my first and second fingers on each of the buttons, and that always felt awkwards on my wrists as the controller is then more "downwards" in my hands.

Rayman game coming to PS4 and Xbox One in February 2004. No information about which Rayman game it is, but it's reasonable to assume that it's just Rayman Legends. Maybe they'll expand it or something.

This isn't a surprise. I would hope that the framerate would be be better at 720p than at 1080p. This is where I think people are cutting off their nose to spite their face in terms of demanding 1080p/60fps. If developers are having to sacrifice framerates to achieve that (completely arbitrary) goal, then who's benefiting?

It's the only game where this has happened though, and it's the same thing with the PS3 version, a machine that is very different from the PS4. At least the Battlefield guys were able to recognize that they wouldn't be able to pull off 1080p 60fps and reduced it to 900p on PS4 and 720p on Xbox One, with the result that both versions are perfectly stable.

It becomes tempting to look at Activision's years old business relationship with Microsoft, but I really can't imagine that they would go so far as to sabotage their own game for something like that.

I care a whole lot more about 60FPS than I do about what resolution the game is. 60FPS must be the standard (at least for any FPS, racing, and/or competitive MP game). If it takes going to 720p or 900p or whatever the fuck, just do it. I need 60FPS.

Yeah, that's why I said they fucked up both versions. The PS4 version looks better but can drop in framerate occasionally (some sites say it's only in singleplayer, but the jury's out on that one), while the Xbox One version looks worse but has a stable framerate. For most games that would probably work in favor of the PS4, but for a game like COD, most hardcore players are likely to consider the Xbox versions (both 360 and One) superior.

It's just stupid no matter how you look at it.

COD is the one game where I honestly do not care about SP framerate since it's unlikely I'll play very much SP at all. If they keep 60FPS in MP, then I'm good.

Same here. I'm more of a pretty graphics kind of guy anyway, so 60fps doesn't bother me in the slightest for single player. Multiplayer on the other hand....that needs to be 60fps. Hope they get it fixed, if it does have stutters in multiplayer.

the only equalizer against Hark is Hark, but then you'd have two Harks telling you how you're playing wrong.

For many game types I'm fine with lower framerates, as long as we're still staying above 30 or so.  The most important thing for me is that it stays consistent.  For PC games where I can tweak graphics settings, I'll happily reduce the resolution and pretty bells & whistles as much as it takes so I see no slowdown during busy moments.

Some hard data about the available space on the PS4's HD:

There are 3 games installed there, taking up 84 GB. Add all the numbers and we get 408 GB as the total amount of space available to the users straight out of the box. The rest (roughly 55 GB. Remember that 500 GB in the hard drive business isn't actually 500 GB) is likely dedicated to the OS.

I seem to recall some talk about the Xbox One OS taking up almost half of its hard drive, but it's been two months or so since that rumor, so I can't remember how accurate it may have been or how good the sources were. Does anyone know what amount of space is reserved for the 3 OSes in the Xbox One?

Yeah, I believe I mentioned in the post I made awhile back about the lack of USB hard drive support at launch on the Xbox One, that Xbox One users could be in for a nasty shock when they see how much space they have on the hdd, especially since you have to install all games to the hard drive. There is no way to upgrade the internal hdd on the XB1, so they need to get the external drives working ASAP.

I know one of the first upgrades I will be getting for the PS4 is, at least, a 1TB drive.

I know one of the first upgrades I will be getting for the PS4 is, at least, a 1TB drive.

Already bought mine at newegg for $60 last week. I will install that before I even turn the system on for the first time.

I seem to recall some talk about the Xbox One OS taking up almost half of its hard drive, but it's been two months or so since that rumor, so I can't remember how accurate it may have been or how good the sources were. Does anyone know what amount of space is reserved for the 3 OSes in the Xbox One?

as long as I have 200 gig free I'll be fine; that'll fit in 8 launch games with room to spare, and with my history on any console I doubt I'll have more that 8 games at a time that I'll currently be playing.  My saving grace will be that I don't keep a big console backlog; if it is not on the PC I am more play it, finish it, trade it for credit and move on.

According to Giant Bomb, Infinity Ward is working on a patch for the framerate issues for CoD on the PS4.

The early reviews of Call of Duty: Ghosts--including mine--mentioned that the PlayStation 4 version of the game suffers from occasional frame rate issues. For me, it usually showed up whenever there were a lot of particle effects on screen, but it'd pop up at random, too. I'm told that Infinity Ward is working on a patch to correct the performance issues.
