I'm sure I'll get one of the new systems at some point, but it won't be for awhile. None of the launch games really interest me and I just don't have the gaming time I used to. Plus, I'll let all you guys be the guinea pigs testing these things out.  Cabbage Patch

Same here.  I have so little gaming time these days that there's no way I can justify a new dust collector, er, console

A vote of "both" and "neither" each apply to me since I'll eventually get both but can't justify buying either at launch.  That said, while I previously had just the PS4 preordered, I have to admit I'm being lured to the Xbone side more and more as far as which to get first.  In the sad, tiny list of exclusives you posted in the other thread, Forza was the only one that called out to me, and I think there's a good chance I'll really get into Titan Fall when it comes out.  And while I still have little to no interest in the new Kinect for my own purposes, I suspect over the life of the console there are going to be quite a few Kinect things my kids will enjoy.

On day one I'll have an XBOne with:
Forza 5
Dead Rising 3
Assassin's Creed IV
Need for Speed
Skylanders: Swap Force

Whichever of those games don't come out on day one, I won't have on day one. I only bought the PS3 for the blu-ray player and for the Uncharted games and that lost my interest on the 3rd iteration. I don't know what will bring me to buy the ps4, but I assume something will eventually.

It's more than a month until launch over here, but I'm getting a PS4. Since there's no Kinect-less version of the Xbox One, that console is off the table for me. That's not even counting that it won't come out here until next year or that I simply don't trust Microsoft to have the consumer in mind for... well, anything!

Leaning XB1. But not sure I'll get it at this time.  There will be a Kinnectless version I'm sure so it'd save 100.00

But I'd love to play BF4 on a console that can actually run it.

Also COD on a new machine would be neat especially after 2 years off from that series.

I'm getting both.  And the "lucky" part is that I'm having surgery the day before Thanksgiving, so I have an excuse to lay around and do nothing but play video games on my two new consoles for a week after that.   icon_biggrin

Have both pre-ordered, but have decided that I may just sell them if there is enough demand, since I already have enough to play and there isn't any dayone buy me games. plus the fact that neither system is backwards compatible means I'd have to find room for both in my already full entertainment center...

I wouldn't hold my breath for that.

Quote from: CVG
CVG: A quick word on Kinect - I presume there will never be an Xbox One sold without it. You are doing this for developer-related reasons as much as your own. You want all developers to know that they can always implement Kinect technology because it always comes with every system. Would that be correct?

Phil Harris: Correct. Xbox One is Kinect. They are not separate systems. An Xbox One has chips, it has memory, it has Blu-ray, it has Kinect, it has a controller. These are all part of the platform ecosystem.

What we have shown really well at Gamescom is the magic of games that use Kinect. We have shown the power of voice control. I'm probably going to piss off your readers unintentionally when I say this; I have an Xbox One at home, and being able to walk in and say "Xbox on", and for the system to recognise me, launch and load my profile, and put my choices of content on the font page is a very magical experience. It makes you think about your relationship with technology in a slightly different way. It's personal. It makes you think, I wish more devices would do this.

Said neither before I saw the wait option.  I just got a new PC so no new console for awhile.  1-2 years I'll grab the PS4 most likely.  I just don't play on consoles enough to justify it and my PS3 is doing just fine when I do have an itch to do something besides Netflix/movies on it.

I don't know, I'm still really skeptical about how much the general public knows about either console. I've been asking friends and family of varying degrees of gamerness what they know about the new consoles, and answers vary from "oh, there's a new one coming out?" to "oh yeah, I heard something was coming out soon." Nobody knew of any of the Xbone drama.

I really think there's a good chance the mainstream gamers are just gonna buy a PS4 if they had a PS3 and buy an Xbone if they had a 360.

More likely they're going to buy whatever other people are buying.

Also, keep in mind that GT is predominantly an American forum. Imagine how skewed the poll would be if this was a, say, European forum.

Since there is very little at launch I have any interest in, I'll hold off. The only thing I'd want to play is Minecraft, but I find it a tad overkill to purchase a PS4 to play that particular game.

This.

The $100 price difference is huge with the mainstream. They are going to see COD and Madden are available for both. Look just the same....and go with the $100 cheaper console.

It's now running 4 to 1 in favor of the PS4. I really think that MS screwed up in the price department. Especially since they are both the same in terms of power (with the slight edge going to the PS4). It just makes no sense to be priced $100 more, when you have the less powerful console and you can play 95% of the same games on each console....just to force the Kinect down everybody's throats.

It's not quite that bleak. You should consider those who'll purchase both consoles too, which means there's currently 26 against 10 in favor of the PS4.

The early negative XB1 press hit mainstream, heck my parents knew about it and asked me about it unprompted.  They've had a tougher time getting the changes out there though, bad news generally gets bigger press.

I tend to agree with the sentiment that price will be the biggest driver.    Brand loyalty usually only applies for hardcore, or a truly unique brand such as Nintendo which parents grew up with.   When Joe and Jane parents walk into a ToysRus this Christmas and see the price difference, they will likely ask the clerk if they both play COD or not.    The pimple faced clerk will say that PS4 is the cool one this time, and yes it plays it.    Joe and Jane will then purchase the cheaper console.

I've made it known that I wouldn't say no to a new console for Christmas, but the odds of that happening are slim.  But I'm not particularly chomping at the bit for either one right now.

I really don't understand why some of you wish to wait with your purchases, unless it's because money is particularly tight right now (and won't be in a few months) or because you're really uncertain about which console will deliver the experience you're looking for. Saying "I'll get a PS4/Xbone next year" otherwise is a bit pointless, since it'll be the same console at the same price anyway.

Hark, are you getting COD Ghosts?    If so I'm going to go ahead and preorder it for the Xbone.

Plan is to get BF4 on the 29th, then get digital Ghosts for 360 on the 5th, then upgrade digitally to Xb1 Ghosts and BF4 on launch of the 1.

Getting BF4 mostly because of Jarrod so he better play when I can. lol

I do think that many people, including a lot of you just don't 'get' the potential of the Kinect and the fact that MS HAD to force it's inclusion or it would be guaranteed to fail.  This way it only fails if devs fail to use it properly (which could obviously still happen)

In a year we'll know which exclusives are good or meh, we'll know if the new Kinect really is the bee's knees, we'll know where our friends seem to be congregating for multiplayer titles, we'll know if the new PSN really is as much improved as it seems to be, we'll have had a chance for hands-on time with both controllers, we'll know how good or bad Xbone's television integration is, and we'll know that $500 is much better spent on an Oculus Rift.  icon_wink

Shouldn't we differentiate XBLA from XBLA1? smile

I think they also don't 'get' the fact that Sony was following the exact same business plan for their next gen.   They literally cut that functionality (the Eye) hours before their presentation so that they could come in $100 cheaper.    The Eye was going to be an integrated part of their platform, and now it will be effectively dead on arrival.

Even if they included the Eye they still would have been $40 cheaper.

I'm actually excited for Kinect 2, just not in a gaming or XB1 context.  The hacking community did some very cool things with the original Kinect, and I expect that's where we'll see all the actual cool stuff this time around too.  But as a gaming peripheral, it has A LOT to prove.
