Alan Wake developers Remedy have Quantum Break happening for the Xbox One

Remedy have confirmed that there will also be a TV Show connected to the game,as EG say.,....so,just like Defiance?

trailer in the link
Eurogamer

Quote
UPDATE 2: Quantum Break appears to blend a live action TV show with a video game, with actions in one affecting the other. Microsoft's Xbox One press release calls it "a revolutionary entertainment experience... that blurs the line between gaming and TV by integrating drama and gameplay into one seamless, uniquely immersive experience. How you play the game impacts the show, and the show informs how you play the game." Defiance, anyone?

something for the Alan Wake fans:
Quote
UPDATE: Remedy creative director Sam Lake has commented on the future of the Alan Wake series following the studio's announcement of new IP Quantum Break.

"Remedy's next big game won't be Alan Wake 2," Lake wrote on Twitter. "We'll return to Wake when the time is right. More on this tomorrow."

A combined TV series and game? That doesn't sound like a good idea, especially not after having seen the "quality" of the acting in the teaser trailer.

Kinda happy with that.  Alan Wake 2 is probably the only exclusive (if it was an exclusive) that could get me to consider a One (damn that sounds dumb) at this point.  Now I don't have to worry about it!

Well, you can always play that on your new PC anyway.

I really don't think these game + TV show things will work, at least not for some time.

that real life scenes cutting to gaming scenes really doesnt work for me.  For a minute there today I was like, damn these graphics are lifelike this is gonna be an awesome Heavy Rain like-type game, then it cut to Meh games scenes, I was hugely disappointed.     Disappointment seemed to be the theme of this unveiling.

Alan Wake actually did that as well.  Throughout the world there were a number of TV sets showing interviews and things.  The people on the TVs were always live video.  It may have worked better there given the paranormal aspect though.

They were also in a lower frame rate and dubbed (and shown in the TVs, not full screen), so it had a disquieting effect that worked with the game.

cover art below

The wiki page for this says that the 'cutscenes' will actually be live action footage...i knew they were doing a TV show with the game ala Defiance, but didn't know about that if true

This might be the game to get me to buy the next gen Xbox. I love the story telling potential of a TV series along with the actions sequences of a game. I am worried that the story telling might suck.

Any idea when this is scheduled to be out? Certainly not by launch.

Are there any good launch titles?

Do we even know what genre this game is yet? It sort of looks like a classic adventure, but based on the pedigree of both Remidy and Microsoft, that would surprise me enormously.

PC is new news isn't it? Seems big. Some rumors of Gears 4 and Scalebound for PC as well.

At this point I can't see myself ever getting an XB1.

Yeah, I'm seeing the same thing.   I guess MS releasing these games on the Win 10 store only could be seen as a good thing, but the min spec for Quantum Break on the PC is pretty high from what I'm reading.

Also, if you digitally preorder the game for Xbox One, you get a free PC version as well.  I'm assuming since they're both digital and tied to your Xbox/MS account there's no way to sell one or the other copy.

I'm surprised that they are recommending 16GB of RAM. I haven't found ANY games that take advantage of more than 8GB, have any of you?

I suspect it's to give themselves a bit of a buffer to work with. Both the Xbox One and PS4 have 8 GB of RAM, but the PC has much more overhead to deal with through Windows. Expect 16 GB to be the standard recommended spec for PC games for the rest of this console generation.

We've still only barely started to see 64-bit games over these last two years, so we haven't exactly got a lot to compare to. There's nothing to stop a game from using well over 8 GB on its own, even disregarding Windows. It all depends on how the game's memory streaming is set up. Generally speaking, the more RAM a game is capable of using, the better it should perform. At least theoretically.
