My problem is that Titanfall is coming out and once that happens, I imagine this game will be mostly dead.  Part of me wants to get it since it has local co-op and I have a way to play with my daughter that isn't military dudes shooting people up, but I just imagine that finding matches will be much harder come March 11.  She loves PvZ, so it really would be perfect, but not sure about paying full price for a few weeks of fun.  I wish you could do matches against just the AI and with two other bots.  I'd probably be more likely to get it just to work her into this type of game and it would also alleviate the need to have others to play with.

Local co-op is apparently stripped down

Sadly, split-screen is limited to a pared-down Garden Ops mode that's only playable offline, and player two can't earn coins or achievements. While it is nice that some sort of concession was made to even allow split-screen in the first place, it's a shame that the second player can't earn their own rewards or play online in general. With those options, Warfare would be a force to be reckoned with in terms of local play.

Also I think it's super dumb that EA went exclusive (timed at least) with this so close to Titanfall.  They could have done well on PS4/PS3 and not had to worry about eating their own sales with Titanfall.

I imagine they saw this as a way to entice people to buy Xbones before Titanfall launches.

Honestly, it has upped the likelihood of my picking one up.  By itself, it wouldn't have done it, but as a one-two punch with Titanfall it seems likely.

I have a feeling this game will be fine in the long run. Plants vs Zombies is an evergreen franchise, like Peggle, and I think they'll get people on board regardless of other games out at the time.

Titanfall proximity is my biggest hangup with the game, too, but since reviews so far seem to range from good to great I think I may buy the disc version of this anyhow and just sell it when TF comes out.

Oh, well actually that seems actually what I wanted.  I hadn't read up on it and just made assumptions about how split-screen would (should) work.  If it's offline only for that, then this would be perfect for us to just play together and not have to worry about the typical downsides of playing online.

Pretty sure 360 version does NOT support split screen though.

Nope, split screen is Xbox One only.

I've got 9.7 inches in my lap right now.  It's too bad we don't live closer otherwise I'd let you get your hands on it for a little bit so you could see how much more satisfying it is compared to your 8".

probably, it IS fast paced, but it's fairly simple overall mechanics.

Titanfall oddly enough is also pretty accessible.

I tried Titanfall - oh yeah sorry I wasn't ignoring your invites, I was too busy dying - in the TUTORIAL lol.  Sadly I couldn't even make it past the 5th jump and run puzzle and got frustrated so I quit that.  Then I went into the live match they recommended and promptly got killed about 20 times before it ended.  I don't know what it is about the first person perspective that just throws me off lol.

Anyway, I just read David's review, sounds like PvZ is fantastic, I will definitely try it out.

This game is kind of more fun than it has a right to be.  It's so simple and limited, yet I keep wanting to play 'one more round' that turns into five more rounds.

Oh and Kato, sorry for the silent departure last night.  My stupid internet cut out and I just gave up.

Is anybody playing this on the PC?  I didn't realize this was only a $30 game, and I'm kind of tempted to give it a try, but I tend to prefer PC for shooters.

EDIT: Nevermind.  I see even though it's on Origin it's still "Coming Spring 2014".  Bleh.

I am finding the game fun, but, it doesn't draw me the same way that EDF does.

Also Diablo 3 with the new loot patch has been grabbing a lot of my time.

I had a great zombie team in Gardens & Gravestones (or possibly just a terrible opposing plant team) and we made it all the way to the lighthouse in the last stage.  Instead of there being a garden to capture, the zombie players fire themselves out of cannons and can roughly steer themselves as they fly at the lighthouse island.  Once you get there, you have to enter the building and shoot at one of two points on the sunflower stalk to try and bring it down.

The match couldn't have come down to the wire more if it had been scripted.  We were at the 10 second countdown and the sunflower had just a sliver of health.  The engineer zombie copter drones were particularly helpful since you could zip them into the building interior and get a lot of hits in on the sunflower's delicate parts before anyone noticed you.

We took it down so close to the end of the countdown that the game flipped out a bit and started flashing some 'Overtime!' messages while the victory animation was trying to play.  Fun fun.

I do really enjoy a good GvG mode, it's so much more tense than the TvM.  However, a bad team ruins GvG much more than TvM.  On top of that, a good run on GvG provides far less CPM than an ok run at TvM.  Since CPM is so important at this phase of the game, I find myself in the less stressful TvM much more often.

CPM is the new KD of PVZ

Mixed mode was in there last night, as well as two new team-specific 20,000 coin card packs.

I know you said your CPM was better in TDM, but I seem to usually get 500-600 in G&G unless my team just completely flops on the first checkpoint.

even as a plant?  my cpm is ok as a zombie in that mode IF I use consumable zombie spam or manage to be the one who activates a teleporter.  Otherwise it's pretty low compared to TvM.

Maybe I've just had a lucky streak of teams, but I haven't found a need to spam consumables to do well in G&G.  I do always start as an engineer when I'm on the zombie team, though.  If there's another engineer racing me to the teleporter right at the start, super, that means I can try a different class.

I'll try to pay more attention the next time I'm a plant, but for the most part I only notice a crappy CPM if our team just gets completely steamrolled.  Then I only have like 200 CPM.

consistency is also part of the problem for me.  In GvG I can get from 300-700 cpm, in TvM it's pretty much 450-600 and the matches are very quick. (a bit too quick really, cod matches are 6-8 on average with the occasional 10 minute to time, these are 3-5 minutes always)

Ha, if you really want to min/max you'd have to manually factor in the downtime between rounds, since as long as the plants don't win on the first point G&G usually lets you play longer.

that is true, but it still seems like when you count the 60 seconds between rounds I'd have to be getting a steady 600-700 in gvg to counter it.  I'lll crunch some numbers slywink

I don't actually have the game since I had been waiting on the PC release.   My comment was based on what I've read and heard about it taking a very long time to unlock all of the character classes since it is a random unlock from coin purchases.

This is a good game because of the fact that there's absolutely no in-game purchases, and you earn the coins by playing more so you can get more stuff.
