Looks like the January games have been announced, and they finally have a good, somewhat recent game in Sleeping Dogs and there will also be Lara Croft: Guardian of Light.

In for Croft.

Is this just 360 or for XB1 too?

I had Sleeping Dogs but traded it in when I couldn't get past the martial arts combat in some places. So I guess I'll give it another try, seeing how it is free and all  Roll Eyes

Hey, potentially dumb X360 question relating to Games with Gold. I happened to see that earlier in this thread it mentioned that Rainbow Six Vegas was the September game. I thought I had downloaded it but when I went to the dashboard and looked at "My Games" it wasn't shown. However, when I searched the marketplace for the game it said that yes, I owned it and would I like to download it again?

So my question is, is there a place on the dashboard that will show me games like that, ones I've bought (or got free) but deleted from my hard drive?

Hey it's only 9 months after Plus gave away Sleeping Dogs.  Seriously though, Pllus started off pretty crappy for games and got much better. GFG seems to be getting better and Microsoft didn't give up on it right at the end of their initial announcement.  So I'm pretty happy about it even if I've played both of the games.  Competition could make both of them even better.

I really enjoyed Sleeping Dogs. It was much better than expected.  I actually got the Platinum on PS3.  It deserves more exposure.

Microsoft is gonna have to get allot better if there's to be any sort of competition in the monthly free games area. PS+ subs got these games awhile ago, and this month will get Brothers and Bioshock Inifinite. Frankly there's no comparison between the two offerings on a month to month basis.

I'm curious - do you get the game for the month only, or for as long as you keep a PSN+ account?

Right... it's just that you wouldn't be able to play them during the period where you hadn't renewed yet.

nah, just until you restart your subscription

Although if a game came and went on PS+ while you had lapsed, then yeah you have missed the chance to play/own that

Phil Spencer: Games with Gold will feel 'more true' to what consumers want in the future

Here's one insteresting tidbit that never occurred to me:

Quote
"One of our issues with Games with Gold not 'issues,' but differences between the other system we get compared to, is the fact that with Games with Gold, you get to keep that game, regardless of whether you continue to subscribe," Spencer said. "And the business around Games with Gold, for us, is just fundamentally different from some of the other programs that are out there, which does put a different financial picture on a you're gonna go buy a game that's brand new, the cost of putting that in, just to be kind of blunt about it."

OTOH, while I'm sure it would be a challenge to change the infrastructure to such a degree, I'm not sure why they don't make it so that this is not an issue with GwG.

Still, good to hear that better options will be coming.  Is GwG on Xbone yet??

Maybe I'm in a bad mood, but that sounds suspiciously like "We offer the better deal, but you're too stupid to realize it."

I mostly care about the end result, not good or bad messaging.  Anyway, this month has:

Civilization Revolution through the 15th.

Dungeon Defenders for the rest of the month.

It kinda IS a case of 'better deal but you're too stupid to realize it'.  A lot of people don't make that connection that you keep the game forever.

That's a pretty weak straw man argument he makes. So yea you get to keep playing the game even if you stop paying for Gold on your Xbox..oh and you will also lose online, and access to all the apps/services that are behind the paywall. How many are going to do that? All of these console platforms frankly pretty much require the subscription part if you really want to use them how they were designed.

I don't see a way for MS to offer something similar to Sony's instant library, without making it contingent on maintaining an active subscription.

There's tens of millions of Xbox 360 owners who don't have Gold subscriptions, and lots of 48 hour codes floating around out there.  If MS *were* to do the insane thing and offer a dozen (or even a few) free recent-ish games that don't require an active subscription, you can imagine what would happen.

I'm sure there's some sort of middle ground - they just haven't found it yet.

Max and Halo are available now for XBOne and Dark Souls is available for 360.  Also, as with PS+, you can "buy" the games through the XBox marketplace on PC and add them to your account, even if you don't own an XBOne.

Looks like Microsoft is starting to understand that they need relevant games in order to compete with Sony's PS+ program. It's a win for gamers.  thumbsup

If you hurry you can still get Monaco for 360. Some regions already have Halo Reach available.

Super Time Force and Crimson Dragon are the games on for Xbox One this month (STF is all kinds of awesome)
