CrackdownOne (which is the sequel to two) slywink

I kid. It is the original Crackdown plus a DLC pack for free (with the 3 vehicles and a bunch of weapons including tank, dune buggy, harpoon gun, cloaking device, etc). Honestly, it's the better game, though it does date back to 2007 IIRC.

The "Getting Busy Bonus Pack" adds more than enough content to Crackdown to justify the 800 Microsoft Points asking price. There are three new vehicles, four new weapons, five new gameplay modes, and five extra achievements that can add no fewer than 210 points to your Gamerscore.

You were thinking of the "Free For All" pack which came out near the same time. The Gettin' Busy was 800 points. I bought it then, and didn't regret it at full price.

The 2 player coop was fun. Played it with Villain once - but I was having connection issues at the time.

This.

Now to figure out how many of these free games to download when I know I will probably never play them (so far Fable 3 and Crackdown; AC2 wasn't even worth my time to DL).

Much to my surprise I'm actually really enjoying Crackdown. It seems like a GTA with a bit of Cyberpunk and minus the asshat character archetypes that always turned me off the newer GTA's. I downloaded the demo in the past, but it never cliked with me. The 1st hour was frustrating, but once I pushed past that and started snagging the Agility perks and got some upgrades it got a lot better. It also helped once I realized that in many regards the game is a platformer hybrid. I love the art style of it and can't wait to play it co-op with my buddies.

[Edit] 2 of the DLC's are free, but you still have to pay for the DLC that contains the missions you activate at the Bomb icons. I'm considering getting the DLC since it's only 400 pts, but I'd love to hear some feedback from people that own it as to whether those missions are worth it.

You just wait, kronovan, the game just keeps getting better and better as your powers increase and you become even more of a super cop.   icon_biggrin  I'm a big fan of Crackdown, and really should go back and play it again.

I don't recall anything specifically about any bomb DLC, but for $5 I figure what the heck.

With all of these Games with Gold games I figure I might as well download them and get them added to my account as owned, so they can be downloaded at some point in the future.

ah okay this might be the incentive i need to go back to this one.  i tried i last night and promptly shut it off after about 15 minutes as i just didnt find it enjoyable (this never happens to me so early on!  of course im usually not just "snagging" a random game either)

but i remember having a bit more fun with the demo way back when and hate quitting on a game so soon so you might have inspired me to give it another look

I remembered this right before dinner.  I thought I'd grab it quick, let it download over dinner and play after dinner.  I look all over the xbox UI.  I try to bing crackdown.  I look it up on games on demand.  There's no sign of the game or games with gold.  Thanks a lot Microsoft.  I have to log into the xbox.com website on my computer, search for games with gold and 'purchase' it.  I can't wait to see their one box to rule them all.  Are they trying to limit the number of people who get their free game, or are they just incompetent?

I thought this promotion was supposed to generate good will.

There was a big ad space on the dashboard when I looked the other day, now I only see a small one once you go to Browse Games (it says 'Free with Gold').  The game is also right there in the Games On Demand tab if you look by name.

I don't think they have a "home" for this, since they haven't redesigned the dashboard to give up a new dedicated spot, but it's there.

Honestly, it's probably all the family setting hoops I had to jump through to make sure my kids wouldn't see anything they shouldn't when trying to play Fruit Ninja, Kinect Party or Once Upon a Monster.  Still, how hard is it to make sure Games with Gold is one of the featured blocks?

When time is the major limiting factor in my gaming, wasting my time with stuff that's not fun is the biggest gaming sin.  I did look by name (and in games) but it didn't show up.  When I next turn it on, I fully expect a huge banner for Games with Gold.

Crackdown would not make it through family filters I'm guessing.  So you can either have it up front and center, OR filter results for family.  It's a pretty violent in your face game and I can see them blocking that if you have it set for family friendly.

I found the game on the dashboard easy enough, but what was annoying was XBL made me log into my Paypal account just to download it. It didn't ding my paypal account, so no biggie. I always purchase XBLA games and my annual gold with point cards and haven't had my c-card registered on XBL for years, so I'm guessing that's why. I didn't even realize you could use paypal for GoD purchases, so I guess my knowing that now is a bonus for MSoft.

I've taken down 7 gang bosses and collected enough Agility pick-ups (around 150) that just as Engine said I'm starting to feel like a super cop/hero. Still really enjoying the game, despite the Vort taking me down a number of times.  slywink

Games - Browse Games is where all their promo stuff is (including discounted games, and this promo). I see someone else has posted those details too - here's the web link to go to the launch page:

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/games-with-gold

It is now (as mentioned by CKbot) the Dead Rising 2 and DR2: Case 0

I appreciate the thought, but mature games just don't show up there with the family controls on.  I thought they'd show up behind my password wall, but they're completely blocked.

So thank you CK for the direct links.  I suppose I prefer too effective parental controls than ineffective ones.  There is a work around, so I'm ok.

Yes, they do. I have my console so locked down that I have to enter a password in to get into T rated games in the store, and AGAIN to even see the screenshots.

On the Games tab, the top left says "Browse games" with a shopping bag icon. On the top row near the right it says Games with Gold. I'll send a screenshot- it's part of the framework, not an advertising section. Make sure you're logged in with a gold account. I'll check to see if that makes a difference and post it.
