After my wife, a friend of ours, and I all came up with our own band names for Guitar Hero II, we started wondering about other people's creativity and how they came up with their own band names in the game.
My friend, known as Johnny Moxa online, came up with Shitpipe as his band name. He simply wanted something edgy and garage band punk-esque.
My wife, known as MoosNukle online, came up with Jaime Hendrix. She tried "The Jaime Hendrix Experience" but it just wouldn't fit, so she was stuck with Jaime Hendrix.
The day I picked up Guitar Hero II I had been working on a major asbestos building materials inspection at the Scottsdale Center for Performing Arts, and for some reason when I loaded up the game and saw the "A" already blinking on the band name screen, Asbestosis came to mind and just seemed to have the perfect band name ring to it.
What have others come up with for their own band names and why?

It's a joke me and my friend used to use all the time. When a singer does a really high or tight note, we call that a strangulated hernia.
Actually... I think it originated with the game "Rockstar Ate My Hamster", and we liked it, and kept using it. I tried to use THAT as my band name (Rockstar Ate...), but sadly it wouldn't fit.

In Guitar Hero my band was Smoking Crayolas.
Don't have GHII but Bill Harris ran a contest many moons ago with the PS2 release and I submitted, and will use when I finally pick up GHII, The Freudian Slits.

I always have to pipe in on this: Metallica has been one of the most bootleg-friendly bands ever. They have ALWAYS let people make recordings of their concerts, and it's pretty much in homage to their bootleg beginnings. Most bands will NOT let you bring recording equipment into live events. Heck, you can even video tape them if you want. So when they said do whatever you want with the bootlegs, but please buy the studio stuff, it seemed like a completely fair position for them to take. |
