obligatory GT review mention

holy cow, this game is unexpectedly good.  I was figuring it would be a generic Amnesia rip-off, but damn, I've had a couple of 'holyshitwftthrowfireatitcrapdonthavefirerunrunrun' moments so far.  graphically it's great and audio is excellent too.  Love the asylum setting, I'm almost expecting to turn the corner to see:

Spoiler for Hiden:

I only have a couple of minor annoyances:

  • the battery life for your camera seems bad; can't believe a journalist out on an assignment like this wouldn't have a better battery pack smile
  • the motion blur seems a bit overdone in my opinion.  It uses the Unreal engine, so I imagine there's probably a setting in an ini file somewhere you can change.  it's not gamebreaking, so I figure I'll let someone else hunt it down and post it on the Steam forums.

Holy crap yes this game is more intense than Amnesia. Jumped several times scaring the crap out of my wife the first time I did it. Only put 50 minutes in to this and had to stop for the night to recover.

Headphones and a dark room are a must for this one.

I totally forgot to pull out my 7.1 surround sound headphones for this.  of course after what I've witnessed I'm not sure I want to slywink

played a bit more tonight.  can't think of the last time I've felt tension in a game like this.  granted, I'm not sure which I'm more afraid of:  the two naked dudes, the big dude, or Doctor Whacko...

decided to give this a shot using nVidia 3Dvision right before I encountered an outdoor section.  when I heard the chains (if you've played past the sewers you know what I'm talking about) I'm pretty sure I was hearing my own heartbeat instead of the games audio....

still plugging through, but they really needed to get away from the 'find 2-3 items or turn 2-3 valves to progress' gameplay; I've counted at least 4 instances of that so far...

I've been having nothing but problems with PSN all night.  I've had a hell of a time just getting in and when I do, they won't let me get Outlast.

Did you try to get it through the web store? I had an odd moment where it prompted me to log in after I hit the buy button,  but it said I had purchased it when I logged back in.

PSN is super flaky today.  I managed to get it down and played it for an hour.  This is going to be a short burst kind of game.

No shit, what a scary good treat. Free to boot! Loving it. Also had to turn it off though. After a few beers, too much jumping! I usually don't get scared. This is scaring me.

I played it for about 30 minutes this morning. Definitely looks good. I think I will fire it up again tonight with the lights out, surround sound on, after a couple of beers. Should be perfect.

I did.  I tried everything last night.  I eventually was able to get it downloaded through a back channel somehow on the console (through some preview of it).  Then it appeared with a big lock on it, so I still couldn't play.

I was getting all kinds of weird messages about the network undergoing maintenance, general errors and PSN not being available for my country/region.  A lot of people seemed to be having issues.

I haven't been able to check it today to see where things stand.

Of course, I had no problems on the PS3, so the whole thing is weird.

Ack. I was going to sleep, then read this thread. Maybe I should fire this up for a few.

I had seen the whole opening section during the E3 presentation and I still jumped out of my seat twice playing it.

Spoiler for Hiden:
I just had to decide to open the library door slowly...

It's actually a reasonably long game.

You guys are in for a treat... if you can last through it all.

The "find and use 3 things" objectives is used a bit too much over the course of the game though.

This game definitely has the scare factor. More than any other game I have played this one creeps me out. I find it hard to play for more than an hour, just too much tension. The music, breathing sounds, grainy film quality, lighting, ambient noises, all of it combine to create this sense of dread.

That reporter is insane to go in there with just a camera.  I'd need body armor, a flamethrower, 12g combat shotgun, grenades, thermal and night vision goggles/sights, a few sticks of C4 with det cord and blasting caps, 2 .45s with combat capacity magazines, a katana, and some type of high caliber SMG.  I probably wouldn't be able to walk with that load, but that's what I'd need.  Better yet, I'd rather suit up in Astartes power armor with a bolter pistol and a power sword.  I don't think terminator armor would fit.  F***ing no way would I go in there with just my clothes and a camera.

I really like how smooth the look behind you while running works, I think Dying Light is using something similar and I hope
it's implemented as well.
