Hey all, just got this at BB for $15 and I have some questions.
I have been trying to use the eye shine ability and it never turns on. Do I have to wait until later to use it?
Also, what does it mean when you hear the heart beat noise?

Thanks Jeff, one other question. How is Johns killed in this game when he gets killed in Pitch Black? Just wondering if this was ever discussed.

Thanks Jeff, one other question. How is Johns killed in this game when he gets killed in Pitch Black? Just wondering if this was ever discussed. He doesnt die in this game. If you're refering to the opening sequence where you learn how to move around and use the controls, that was a dream sequence that you wake up from. Don't worry, there is more of John's in the game to come. In fact, I thought that Riddock's relationship with John's was pretty interesting story line.

Ok got past that last night, I was wondering how that was going to be explained.
On a related note, I know the Riddick character is so cheesy, but I love the dead-pan delivery. I'm still trying to learn the controls, but it's been fun so far.

I thought Vin Diesel did a great job with the dead-pan stuff. It's a great game, and not many expected it to be, being a movie license and all. It's one of my top 3 favorite xbox titles yet.

I still haven't played it.
If I find it on the cheap I'll pick it up.
Is it only $15 at Best Buy now? Or did BB mean something else?

I <3 Riddick. The end sequence alone made it worth playing...

I'll just order from Amazon then, BB seems to be very much sold out.
*Edit*
Amazon's price shows as 29.88 even after it's in my cart. What's up with that?

Second only to Half-Life 2 as game of the year in my book. When you get the eye shine, you'll know. It's also nothing like what you think it might be. CoR is a hell of a great game. And it's a got a great ending too. One that is worth playing for, and that's increasingly rare these days. I'm glad they're going to continue the series.

Well, I hope so. Great game on every level. It had fantastic graphics and bang-on voice acting. The action was over the top and a lot of great characters to interact with. Bring on a sequel, by all means.

Having fun with this one, but I have a gripe and maybe I'm being too picky. Didn't Riddick always say that he got his "eye-shine" in a surgical operation in a slam for 20 menthols? What's up with the "midiclorian" presto you've got eye-shine story?

Yes, Vin himself let slip during an interview last week that they are working on a sequel. And just to pimp the site a little, we'd posted that story a day or two ago. You might want to start checking out the front page for news, reviews, cool stuff, et all. I'm just sayin'.

I got it yesterday for 9.99 at Eb also, and I played through that little tutorial. Looks like it will be a pretty neat game to play through.

What's up with the "midiclorian" presto you've got eye-shine story? Someone, can't remember who, had a theory on this that went something like, he didn't want to accept the way that it actually happened, so he attributed it to something that he could explain. It's also possible that he uses the surgeon story because it makes him sound tougher and less crazy. If you were locked up, you'd probably rather say that you let some inmate slice open your eyes, instead of that a voice in your head made it happen.

So, i'm wondering......should I watch the movie first before playing this? It won't really make a difference, Zekester. Escape from Butcher Bay takes place years before both the CoR movie and Pitch Black. The stories don't have much to do with each other, besides being about Riddick. If anything, I'd say play the game before watching the movie (if you can wait) as you get to see the pre-eyeshine Riddick.

IMO, this game is totally overrated. Standard FPS fare except for the fist fighting. The mech level was cool too...but I just don't see what the fuss was about...GOTY? Over Ninja Gaiden? You must kuh krayzay!

I'm what feels like a reasonable length into the game and I have to say it's pretty damned well done.
The graphical jaggies are a bit overpowering at times, but other than that one small thing I'd have to say it's a really great game.
Weird. I'm impressed with all things Riddick lately, even the movie that 90% of the moviegoing public seemed to think was craptacular.
I'm definitely having a great time with the game. I won't say anything about where I am as there's others that haven't beaten it here, but I will say one thing definitely surprised me. I thought I was about to do one thing and then BAM.. another character steps in and I suddenly end up somewhere else. Ouchies.
