i am so hyped for this,i love the monkey island games

Quote
Much-loved LucasArts adventure game, The Secret of Monkey Island, is coming to Xbox Live Arcade, it's been revealed via a rating.

A listing for the "Special Edition" Xbox 360 re-release has appeared on the German USK Rating Board - and the German's never lie.

The 1990 adventure game - which was helmed by, among others, Mr. Tim Schafer - follows the story of wannabe pirate Guybrush Threepwood as he adventures through the crazy world of skull and crossbones.

We're expecting HD visuals and plenty of nostalgia. Expect more at E3.

now i just need the other monkey island games to appear(unless this special edition somehow has all of them)..and Grim Fandango and i will be set

How the hell did you miss MI??  It's, like, the LA adventure game.

It'd be awesome if this were true.  I'd be all over it.  Another +1 for Grim Fandango as well.

I was an adventure game nut back then playing every King's Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest, etc, but somehow completely missed all of the Monkey Island games. I'll have to check this out.

Ditto. I didn't play KQ that much but did the first 3 SQs and 2 PQs. Also did the first 3 LSLs. Then there was full throttle too. And the first So you want to be a hero game....but I don't think i finished it.

I would also love to see Grim Fandango. I got about a 1/3 through it and the guy wanted his disks back frown

I played through Grim Fandango about 3 years ago or so. It didn't hold up that well, IMO.

As I eh, posted in another thread, I just realized that this is the game that lucasarts was talking about ,when they announced a ressurection of an old franchise.

While I love MI, I was really REALLY hoping for a new Xwing /Tie fighter game...

I had heard so much about it, I think my expectations were quite high. Much like with TLJ I didn't think it was all that. I played Sanitarium around the same time and liked it the best of the three.

Though I grew up on Infocom and Sierra, and played some LA games (The Dig and Loom come to mind), I also am one of those that somehow missed the MI games.

IN, but unless they tighten up the graphics the game is going to be pixelicious on a big screen TV.

The first S&M season (or "series" for you crazy Brits) is already out here on disc.  I was hoping for a Strong Bad style release, but at least it came out.

The genius of this game and the series itself is hard to understate:

Monkey Island:

"Ask me about LOOM."

"You fight like a dairy farmer."

The solution to the "trapper underwater" puzzle near the end.

What's down the hole in the forest.

The Beast.

The guards at the governor's mansion.

Otis.

Lemonhead and the other "cannibals."

Stan.

As for the second game, I never really got into it. I liked it alright but it didn't click that much for me. HOWEVER! The unfettered brilliance of "The Curse of Monkey Island" is the source of gaming lore. Every joke is laugh out loud funny or at the very least close to it. The puzzles are tricky but make sense when you think about the solution in terms of the game (the exception being the final puzzle to get into the last area. Even for a surreal game, the solution is a bit of a stretch.) The characters are all wonderfully drawn, the animation is beautiful, and the voice acting it spot on perfect. To wit:

"I'm running guns!"

"I don't want to know about 'Grim Fandango.'"

"IT'S EL POLLO DIABLO!" (the delivery of this line alone left me in hysterics because it comes totally out of left field)

The barbershop quartet.

"We'll be fine if we all eat an orange."

The ship.

The volcano god.

The return of the "cannibals" with equally brilliant voice acting.

Lemonhead's monologue on tourists.

"Hit me!"

Stan.

The credits.

Guybrush's unflappably happy nature despite the insanity he bears witness to.

Yes, I love this series. smile

Nothing beats the dueling mechanics.  Absolutely unmatched to this day.

Telltale (the makers of new episodic Sam & Max games) are set to announce a new episodic game series at E3.  I wonder if this is it.

Monkey Island 4 was on PC and PS2 but it was considered simply above average and couldn't hold a candle as far as personality and dialogue compared to MI3.

Having played through the whole thing, there was exactly one bit that slayed me. When Guybrush buys his boat, you have an option to say "But it's... pink!" The response from the NPC is the exact same no matter how many times you say it, but I kept repeating it over and over and over again because the actor's delivery was so spot-on it was priceless. I must have hit that response 10 times and was literally in tears from laughing. Nothing else in the game was even remotely as entertaining, and the Monkey Kombat was so frustrating it bordered on game-killing for me.

The goatee isn't a new thing for Guybrush. Remember Monkey Island 2? People kept making fun of his goatee there. In fact, certain elements of the trailer to Tales of Monkey Island makes it look like this might be set to the Monkey Island 2 period since Guybrush has a goatee and LeChuck is still a zombie.

I agree.  For all of the hate that Escape from Monkey Island got for it's look, this doesn't look to be a great improvement in terms of visual style.

LeChuck changes every game, so I think you might be right.  or maybe it's Old Man Winters dressed up as Zombie LeChuck...
