they had a little interview with the dead of Team Ninja, and amongst the topics touched was BOOBIES!

Quote
Has anything about the production or marketing of Dead or Alive 5 been changed in any way after the recent furore surrounding representations of women in games, considering that the franchise is known for its oversexualised female characters?

With the representation of female characters in the Dead or Alive franchise, we’ve always wanted to make the girls look as attractive as possible, and that’s something that’s not going to change for us at all.

We are a Japanese developer, and we’re making the female characters with our common sense and our creative sense. When you take that to countries outside of Japan, it tends to be very misinterpreted in some cases, people considering it sexist or derogatory etc.

For us, within our culture, we’re showing women like that, and we’re trying to make them look attractive. We can’t help if other cultures in other countries around the globe think that it’s a bad representation. Within our nationality and within our national borders, we obviously have morals that we create our female characters from, but within our Japanese sensibilities, we’ve made those characters the way they are and we’re not going to stop doing that.

I'm kinda interested in seeing how things turn out for DOA5 (beyond the scantily clad girls).  DoA 3 was one of the first fighting games I got into on the consoles, and DOA4 didn't quite grab me (perhaps I should pick up a used copy at some point).

Heh, so basically, we're not a sexist culture because that's just our normal culture?

Just because the rest of your country is sexist, doesn't really make it an excuse.

There's ways to make very attractive women in video games without all the boob physics.

I loved DOA4, and I don't like that many fighting games these days, so I'm in for it on release.

Having fun with the intro storyline (only played an hour or two so far). In other news, if you pre-ordered and haven't spent your devil black bunny costumes... my dlc code is currently at $43 after 1 day of a 3 day auction... so I suspect I'll get the game for free in the end.   saywhat

I've got a review of it on the front page.  I remarked similarly on the WTF storyline.   saywhat

Hah, yeah, in the prologue still at least the reasons for fighting are completely random. Why are these people all on a random oil rig, who cares, one insulted the others' motorcycle!

And boob physics... oddly mesmorizing, but reminds me more of waterbed movement.

Still, I've always enjoyed the campiness of the series. DOA 4 did have a while somewhat incoherent still cool larger story overall, so I'm hoping this will pull itself together some eventually...

Final price on my dlc: $152.50 - fees. Pretty happy to get the game + $90 out of it...

It's the first time that I could realistically use the phrase: "You'd lose money not buying it."
