you have to find the save points around the castle...they're rooms that show up as red on your map.  once you get to one of those rooms, stand in front of the floating shape and press up on the controller.  it will ask if you want to save and refill all your health/magic...give you answer, watch a little animation, and you're on your way again icon_cool

the rooms look like this...

i never played the original game, but i've been working my way through the XBLA version over the last few days and it is a lot of fun...still plays really well considering its age.  after all the talk about bad voice acting, i have to say it really doesn't bother me...a little over the top, but far from the worst i've heard.  i'm glad i made the purchase to tide me over until i get my hands on GH2 in a couple days.

Super Castlevania IV is one of the best out there.  Just dont be prepared for an adventure like Symphony of the Night or any of the DS "Metroidvanias."

I'm only lvl 25 right now, and 88% done. Got my 3 modes, their powerups and 4 of the 5 familiars.

I'm trying to find the sword familiar, but I don't want to cheat and look it up. There are some things I remember as if it's yesterday (like the underwater sections and the hidden room in the clocktower with the gears...).

I love this game. I really love it. I'm trying to remember if this version has the shield rod or if that was the DS one... ah well. I'm not going anywhere NEAR www.gamefaqs.com ... loving the rediscovery so much.

I'd probably skip the NES Castlevania - it was great for the time, but Super Castlevania IV is more or less the same game, just better.
