I just heard that Runic hopes to have Torchlight out on XBLA and PSN by the holidays. for those who don't follow PC gaming it's along the lines of Sacred 2, albeit it a bit more simplified; there are only 3 classes and it's not a big open world. [edit] almost forgot, there's no co-op or MP in the PC version, so I'd be surprised if the console version has it.

Will this be a straight port? Or will there be any enhancements or addons?

they really haven't said. most of what I've been able to find on it is they mentioned it at Gamescom and have been working on it for awhile.

no mods would suck. i would recommend just getting the pc version. it goes on sale all the time. it's simply not worth it w/o MP for consoles.

I'm surprised they would bother with porting the original at this point, considering Torchlight 2 is coming out next year (with co-op, no less). Oh, article on Joystiq

I might check this game out as well, though probably not right away. Luckily, I haven't played a PC game since the Myst era, so the loss of modding won't matter to me. I loved Sacred 2, so this should work for me if the price point isn't ridiculous. (or should I say Points Price?) And Torchlight 2, with co-op... oooh, shiny!

Maybe they'll use the XBLA version of Torchlight to test out the co-op code going into Torchlight 2.

That's awesome. I remember when I visited Runic and talked to Max Schaefer and the team, I asked if there would be a console release and he said it solely to do with how successful the game was. Glad to see Torchlight was a big success for them.

The translation from PC to console controls are detailed at Eurogamer. As enemies can't be click-selected, you now move forwards slightly with each swing, smashing whatever is closest (this will be highlighted red) and bruising anything nearby. Animations have been "redone" accordingly, and it all "feels natural and does what you expect", apparently.
Ranged combat is "in many ways easier", thanks to auto-targeting and more comfortable dodging, and "Lobbed" skills are handled by the analog triggers - a light squeeze throws near, a heavy squeeze throws far. Overall, combat is said to feel "faster" and "more manoeuvrable". Sounds great! However, since I've already played through the game on PC, I'm looking forward to Torchlight 2.

That would be too good to even dream for. I'll be very surprised though if the features aren't the same as the base PC game. The translation from PC to console controls are detailed at Eurogamer. Animations have been "redone" accordingly, and it all "feels natural and does what you expect", apparently.Yup, this sounds quite similar to the differences in control between the PC and 360 versions of Dragon Age. Much to my surprise I actually prefer the 360 control scheme and have enjoyed that version more. Since I haven't played Torchlight yet I might eventually consider the 360 version, just as long as it doesn't cost over 1200 pts.

Yep, single-player only. The big new feature for Torchlight 2 is co-op.

I am in for this,i like the look of it,and i will be getting 2000 points for this and B,G and E on the wiki page for Torchlight,it has this:- Xbox 360 development
The game also includes some new content such as additional armor sets and a new pet, and incorporates technology developed for Torchlight II including character animation blending and an improved automap.

yeah, I'll probably buy this on XBLA out of support and to see the upgrades. I may wait for a sale on it though, since the PC version is always going on sale why shouldn't the console version?

Torchlight 2 has been pushed back to July-blame the XBLA version of Torch 1 http://www.computerandvideogames.com/288147/news/torchlight-2-pushed-to-july/"I'd say that the Xbox project, having to do the extra work with the interface, has pushed us back a little bit, so we're probably talking July right now for Torchlight II," he said.
"It's going great, however. We've actually got some optimizations and technical improvements that went into making the Xbox version that we've been able to go back and implement into Torchlight II for PC.
"We've got load times down, we've got some animation stuff that's a little bit better, and it's feeling really good right now. Torchlight II is playing really snappy and really sharp, so I'm very excited about that."

See? There is an advantage to having a bad memory - you can replay games with hardly anything "new" popping up. Right now, I'm trying to figure out if I played it on the iPod or my laptop, but my iPod isn't home with me, and my laptop HD fried a few months ago. I do remember trying a variety of games that were either for the iPod, or were point-and-click games on PC, but that's all, even after seeing those screenies, lol. I'll probably DL the demo and decide whether I want more of Torchlight after that. Sounds like a plan!

Yes, they actually do, I just can't picture the rest of the game - but that is definitely the one I was playing on my laptop. You might even consider playing it on your PC - my old laptop I was playing it with was old and quite basic, but I had no problems. I found it by searching for a point-and-click game since I'm hopeless at the ones that use keyboard commands - and my thumbs needed a break ( not pun!) IIRC, it had to have been fairly cheap to get, maybe cheaper than the Arcade price, perhaps even free, I don't remember... just a thought.

4.5 out of 5 from Joystiq. In short, Torchlight for Xbox Live Arcade retains all of the charm of the PC original. Unfortunately, it also retains the PC version's major flaw: a complete lack of multiplayer, an especially important feature in the action RPG genre. Even the simple ability to trade items with other players would have been a very welcome addition. As it stands, multiplayer will have to wait for Torchlight 2.

woohoo last week i entered a Facebook comp(they have one each week to win the house party games)for Torchlight,i tweeted AceyBongos(our UK inside Xbox guy) today if the winners had been notified yet as i didn't wanna spend points on Torchlight and then find i had won the game(i put a :p at the end,as if to say 'yeah like i have a chance') he replied that the emails should go out later in the day,so i just carried on playing the trial...and low and behold,30 minutes later i got an email with the Torchlight code, yay now i finally know what its like to be this guy

Demo seems fun. Text is like an 1/8 of inch big on my 30 inch tv. Not sure what's so hard about scaling text size to match the screen...probably get this after I finish bg&e.

Is this just XBLA? Or is there a PSN version, too (like the thread title says)? I don't mind getting it on XBLA, but the PS3 is more convenient (blame a family LBP/LBP2 addiction).

fixed the title, I missed this newsbit from January: No PS3 plans to speak of. Microsoft is acting as the publisher on this one. And given how much work it was to get one console game done, I’m a little relieved we didn’t attempt both platforms at once anyway

I've been playing this and it's a fun game. The item stats text is ridiculously small though; I had to move my couch closer to the tv in order to read it.
