I think I will have an Xbox One before I have Windows 8, so neither beta works for me.  Tongue

Has OS limiting a game on the PC ever really worked out for Microsoft?

An Xbox One exclusive feature will be using Kinect for performance capture and recording body animations, facial expressions and voice for emotes.

Voices can then be edited with different pitches, speeds and styles, including robot, goblin and monster.

If I could play it on Windows 7 I would probably be there day one.  I can understand it being a XB1 (console) exclusive but I would think Microsoft would have learned by now that making games OS exclusives results in really terrible sales.

Well, its not that awesome a thing, actually, especially since you have to purchase various theme packs for real money if you want to try out others creations most of the time, or make your own creations without a ton of restrictions. Its based on a fremium model which is frankly not very fun to work with.

I do believe SOE's LAndmark will be much better and is a lot more freeform creation than Project Spark.

I got an invite about a week ago. Haven't had much time in it, but I did go through the tutorial world.

I just loaded up Project Spark on Windows 8, and I'm highly impressed with it so far. I can see that they also did an excellent job creating an interface that works well with both Windows and the XB1. Creating your own worlds with a modest working AI is infinitely easier than any other user creation kit I have ever seen. Everything is basically drop and drag, using a paintbrush feature for terrain, or chaining AI commands together with a simple Lego-esque snap on feature.

I built a reasonable game world, complete with NPCs, dialogue and combat in under 2 hours. This is only a beta, so there is still work to be done, but it is amazing so far. If they allow users to upload character models and set pieces, Project Spak could possibly revolutionize the ease and stability of user generated content.

In the brief time I spent with it, I didn't see a way to modify combat damage, or weapon creation etc. Likewise, the amount of content is still very limited, and I've yet to see how involved commands for the AI can truly become. But creation is fun, addictive and satisfying. There is a lot of potential here.

I've tried my hand at creating mods for Neverwinter Nights, Morrowind, and Shadowrun Returns, and the barriers to entry we're very high. You quickly reached a point where coding experience became helpful or almost necessary. Project Spark is aimed at the casual audience that would love to tell a story or make a simple game, but don't have the time or desire to invest into learning complex mechanics.
