What I don't understand is how no one saw this coming paranoid
Well it could be like Knack. It also go panned in the reviews but I've yet to see anyone comment "Yeah, this game is crap".  Perhaps the poor reviews lowered expectations so much that people were surprised when it actually turned out to be alright. Perhaps Ryse will be the same.

The only difference is that Ryse seems to have more weight put on it in the launch lineup than Knack did.  Knack always felt like a "Oh, there's also this game, if you like platformers" whereas Ryse seems like it was meant to be one of the pillars of the launch.

I imagine it'll be fun enough once you start playing, though, which is like Knack.

Plenty of people saw this coming.Going all the way back to E3 people have been saying it's pretty, but don't expect much in terms of gameplay. So no surprise here.

But Forza is killing it in the reviews and DR3 is getting good scores too, so there are still two good exclusives to buy.

It should be on its way from Gamefly today, if I like it I'll keep it, but if anything it would be the short campaign that would make me return it.

I am sooooo tempted to pick this up tonight. It LOOKS incredible. I would love to play it just for the sheer spectacle of it.

Ugh....I love the setting and I love the graphics. I know when I see it there I will cave....

Nope. I said so last page.

I love the "warrior" games from KOEI, so a mindless hack-n-slash game is right up my alley. I didn't say that in a review of it I'd be telling people to buy it. Sounds like it has issues.

We'll see. I'll be at EB in two hours picking it up.

Also, I have 7 days on each game to return to get a different game. Ryse might be a victim of "k done that, NEXT!" slywink

Too bad Ridah ain't local. I'd invite him over (bringing beer, right bud?!) slywink and let him play it to his hearts content.

I'm getting it anyway.

Passed on Knack initially, but still think I want it.

Not going to let this happen again.

I hope it's not too terrible.

Yep. Said that. Good for you!

I *do* have money down on the preorder, it *was* a fantastic experience. It was also 6 months ago, and a limited view.

I can tell you I'd like to be able to turn off the "green/blue" glow prompts. That, for me, breaks immersion more than the icon over their head.

Like I said, I'll tell you what I think of it. biggrin

Dem vertical slices. We've all been tricked by them before, on any platform.

Heck, Aliens: Colonial Marines looked like an excellent game when they showed those vertical slices.

This one sounds pretty polarizing, really. Ben Kuchera from Penny Arcade Report was talking on Twitter about how much he liked it. Might still be something good there - for me, this is definitely one I've got in mind for when launch titles start to drop to $20-$30.

I think it will be worth purchasing at a discounted price and running through it, just to experience the sights an sounds. I was floored when I played it at E3, but I knew and even said as much to one of the developers that the gameplay seemed shallow.

played a bit.  fairly fun, but expectations were lowered a bit.  Does not seem to be friendly when switching out for other things, tried checking a couple of notifications and events in the game did not trigger correctly immediately after or the game seemed to hang.  it could be the game itself, but in all instances the issues occurred after I hit the guide button.

This game looks fantastic, but it hasn't clicked for me yet. I find the combat to be engaging, but there are elements that lack.

It's about timing and not button mashing.  Once i did that it clicked.  You can't play this as a God War clone if you do you're sure to get your ass kicked.  It's certainly very pretty to look at

Oh, I know. I'm just cutting my teeth on it - I'm at the point in the game that I played at E3 (Roman version of the Saving Private Ryan beachhead scene). Not loving the fat guys with shields - and I find that using role to get around them doesn't give advantage.

I did have a fun moment where I rolled out of the way and a flaming arrow hit the guy I was fighting in the chain tower.

If anyone is worried about spoilers, this is Chapter 1.

That's good - it's the exact reason the Romans had the heads of their pilum made of soft metal. It would bend, get lodged in shields etc, and made it useless to try and throw back.

and done.
Spoiler for Hiden:
After Commodus I fought Kiera Knightley from that recent King Arthur film that involved the Romans
.  The second round of the fight went like this:

10 B,B,A,A,A,A,X,X,X
20 goto 10

well, the game started out fine, but later boss fights devolved into 2 to 3 stage affairs, the writers obviously wore out their copies of Gladiator and King Arthur and the ending, which was essentially one long QTE, was drawn out.  Also had portions where the hit detection outright broke, one bit where the voice controls AND alternate controls outright failed, experienced a friendly AI too stupid to remember to breath (like AI soldiers standing in front of ladders that need to be kicked down and more often than not their off in La La Land), and boss fights where the enemy could turn on a dime and interrupt any of their attack animations instantly to block you.  They don't even really explain the gods, other than one is apparently Summer and the other Jack Frost.

On the plus side, the game looked pretty.

All in all, either rent it or get it for free somehow.
